Mortal Online; (Still in Beta)
1) Brilliant landscape which is fun to explore (I explored it for 5 hours over the last few days)
2) Variation from area to area, forests, desert-type landscapes, towns, cities (still being built), lakes and rivers, mountains, plains and you get the idea
3) Immersive, not only through it's 1st person view and the constant feeling of danger when you see someone in the wild but also from beautiful surroundings as mentioned above
4) The absolute deffinition of a sandbox, no restrictions what so ever
5) An exellent crafting system even if not 100% polished up it will easily provide those crafter types with a dream scenario. Gathering, extracting, refining, loads of combinations, rare ores, different quality items (Which will be even more so when armour penalties are added)
6) Potential for great player built cities for clans to live in, crafting to be done, tournaments to take place, a meeting place for roleplayers, a setting for a large-scale all out PvP siege!
7) Skill based combat where your aim and stamina management count + mounted combat on tamable steeds
8) No maps, no directions - putting the fun back into exploring and making your knowledge of the local area a weapon to be used to set up ambushes or tactical moves on the battle field that could turn the tides = profit (?)
9) Character creation! I've never seen a game with a mixing blood system like this where the maximum potential stats of your character are affected and so is the asthetic of your character too. (Admittedly I've not seen every game)
And much more to come, we've all seen on paper what they plan to have but from what I've seen personally these are key features that make this game a winner.
On the downside still lag, crashes, desync to fix and a little more content would be welcomed as well. All things the devs are working religously to fix and enhance. So no I won't be spending my money on a pre-order until crashing and desync have gone but this game is truely becoming something special. Keep an open mind people

You brought your anti-troll coat right? lol
It's very snug Just throwing out those positive vibes, the game isn't bad at all. Seems to be many negative threads on here
MO has a lot of potential. I'm a Darkfall fanboi, but I've dabbled in the MO beta. I like the direction it's going, and the ideas behind it.
I hope they can get their shit together and deliver a solid game. One more point on the sandbox game side.
This.
I played Darkfall for a long time as well, I think they've both got their good aspects and should learn from each other. Yes I agree now is the time to get the shit together but I'm hopeful with a dev team who communicate with the player base on a daily basis it can be done.
I agree with most of what you ahve said. the only thing that I have found is that after a fair amount of exploring - once you know your way around you start to wonder. . what next. I think this will be resolved somewhat then beta is over and people start to settle into characters and roles.
I think the sense of immersion is the best thing it has going for it. Still a lot to work on but I do like the game. Just not sure how long it could keep my interest. . and if development can keep up with what people will need to stay.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
To all the OP said ..i say one more thing..the game is a heavy game..they need to put some view distance limiter...my pc runs AOC almost at max, darkfall at max with no shadows etc..but Mortal at lowest setting strugles sometimes in the city.
Gotta love the immersion, I recon your problem will be solved when the guild system is in place and people begin to wage wars on each other and fight over land and rare resources nodes (3 of which I found on my travels), then crafters will have reason to make high quality and high quanities of weapons + armour and PvP'ers will have a greater purpose. Hoping this will give the devs enough time to place more content into the game.

"P. I Crash In Game non stop, it was fine before
S. Thanks to a bug report by Trixxer
in your Mo folder go to:
Updater > mortalonline > UnrealEngine3 > NowGame > Config and open NowEngine.ini
now, first thing you wanna do is backup the file.
now, get in the file and look for maxLODsize=4096 line, you will find many of them, change the number from 4096 to 512. in all of them.
save and start the game.
please report back if it helped you."
Try doing that, I did it because I would crash upon logging into highly populated areas and now I notice grass only starts appearing in detail a medium distance away. Might not work but meh if you're really wanting to test it out some more it could be worth a shot.
The butthurt is because there's already a game that is out and working that does ALL of these.
There is also butthurt because Starvault had people purchase the full game to get into beta.
There's also the butthurt because this game has been pushed back 5 times now, with no sign of the devs learning their lesson.
And there's butthurt because Most of the stuff you mentioned doesn't even function, and what does function, you can't access anyway due to the desync. 4 minutes to take out an axe to get some wood for this great crafting? Yeah right.
If game crash, you simply have to get some help in the mortal online forum Support section. IF you still got crash problem after that, your computer is the problem.
Same as the OP, i will only preorder or subcribe at launch once they fix they desync lag.

1) Empty world, with nothing to reward your exploring. No hidden treasures, resources, rare monsters. The only epic monster ingame, dragon, is just a model and you cant get to him unless you bug into his cave.
2) Typical MMO lanscape with variations.. something to be exited over?
3) Sense of danger due to constant gankers because game lacks any other activity then PvP, in empty landscape with sharp edges on every smaller hill.
4) No restrictions, nor are there any tools in this sandbox. A true sandbox with nothing to do then tame, build houses, craft and gank. Do what you want, feel free to feel freedom with those four features!
5) Pain in ass crafting system, made so advanced so people wont get tired of it within a day, but in fact barelly 5% of all possible combinations will be used.
6) Large scale lag battle, with naked RPers, what is better!
7) Skill based combat where who lags most counts.
8) No maps, no exploring, putting back the FU in fun.
9) Bloodmix system! Just a cosmetic feature to alter your stats, yet probably most exiting thing about the game.
And so many more empty promises we all heard before!
Ok, some points are fairly overkill, buit you get the point :P
1) + 2) The landscape is also mostly empty with only a scattering of wildlife whose only purpose is to provide crafting materials and vendor trash. Having a large world is nice I agree, but only if there's stuff to do in it, otherwise it just becomes a hassle after a while. Oblivion, for example, was fun to explore because there were caverns, towers and ruins to explore full of enemies and exotic items.
3) It has the potential to be immersive, I agree, however I think the immersion is completely undermined by the aforementioned emptiness. Cities are populated generally by a few players either in rags or naked, and robotic vending machines. Oh and the occasional gazelle stuck in the floor. Some cities are completely deserted.
4) + 5) It's nice yes, but the game is also horribly unintuitive and the crafting system is needlessly complex. This may appeal to some, but in the wider interests of player retention and population, SV need to streamline the process a little. Think about Eve's certificate system: it groups up certain skills to allow players to more easily understand which skills they need to do achieve their aims. It will make the game easier to get into without sacrificing any of the complexity and flexibility.
6) This relies on a large player base, but MO is very much a niche game right now and SV have even said they hope to retain a small but loyal fanbase to support them. I also refer back to 1) and 2) where I feel the emptiness of the world will make player cities kind of pointless. There's nothing to fight over, just PvP for the sake of it. Without a healthy population and something to fight over, nothing like this is going to happen.
7) Relies on them fixing the lag and desync issues. I'm a little sceptical as to their ability to fix it completely. This problem has been going on for months now.
8) Fair point
9) The blood mixing system is interesting, but it's not really that great. There are lots of racial variations, but they only produce 3 or 4 different physical variations, the rest is just minor stat differences. The system for fine-tuning your physical appearance needs considerable work.
TLDR: While I agree with your points in principle, the game still has some serious issues which spoil it. This is mostly to do with needless complexity, lack of content, unfriendliness to new players and of course the ongoing lag/desync saga which is beginning to remind me of the quest to destroy the one ring of power.
EDIT: Oh and the beta argument doesn't hold water here I'm afraid. SV have already said that they believe the game to be ready for release and it's only the lag and desync issues which have lead to the latest delay. Everything else they were happy with.
You should not really pay that much attention to the butt hurt people. This game is in Open Beta and its free. Everyone can decide for themself if this is worth their money or not. And every problem the game has atm is right there in front of them. No need to read thread after thread from the same people stating the obvious.
Also all the drama threads about how StarVault screw folks over should also be taken with a grain of salt. Clearly they dont have the PR and support team one could wish for at the moment. Its still however in beta so i can understand that their limited resources are directed elswhere. But if they really was as bad as some here claim they should have been sued long ago and i have yet to see that happen.

Most people posting here do have points that hold value, not all the features are perfect yet however but playable and the game does indeed need more content before you would call it polished. But by no means have the devs stated they're happy with everything else there have been several dev posts stating they would rather have more time to continue developing before release. This equates to the fact it is a business and those developers do need to eat at the end of the day...
why everyone so negative?
maybe because most people just cant seem to answer the real question:
why is this game so crappy?
... I'll bite, why is the game so crappy Mr stripper?
This like a trick question?
...just call me Jak
but i guess if i knew i wouldn't be so negative.
lol indeed.
oh and by the way the "exploring" does not take that much time. once you get a horse you can explore the whole map in a few hours of riding arround.
the worst part of this game has to be the combat. it's pretty much the only thing there is to do om this game besides crafting and it's just horrible. Disync, laggy, unresponsive, buggy, weappons stay stuck in the up position, not to even mention other players/mobs teleporting all over the place. it just isnt' fun...... AND it's pretty much 80% of what this game has to offer.
A thief can steal anything at anytime from someone's pack in an npc city; a newbs new-found leather or newly earned cash. There is absolutely no respite in this game.
Striving for Silver Stars since Gold is so effeminate.
You should try being a theif for a few days, you quickly learn it's so simple to avoid having anything stolen at all.
Edit; Theives are only effective against the stupid.
Ths is true, thieves are effective until you wise up.
A: Don't stand about or go AFK with anything in your backpack you would expect to be there when you came back to the keyboard.
B: Most thieves (bad thieves) are naked and around the bank area.
C: You get an alert that they're snooping you 10 seconds before they can start stealing. Learn to push or just move away.
only take out money from the bank when you need it to trade or buy a skill book, not before.
E: Thieves cannot steal large stacks of goods (not sure about cash) over 365, they larger the stack the harder to steal.
Spotting and avoiding thieves is pretty easy for anyone that can be bothered however for some it seems easier to get robbed then cry about it on forums.
