Not really sure if this is an honest question , " why isn't google chrome the browser of choice for many", or if this was just based on your speed testing.... but I'm going to take this as an honest question from what I could understand from your post.
Well there are a number of reasons why people haven't adopted google chrome. You'll hear about those that believe everything you search for and send in your browser including passwords etc. get sent to google, which isn't true.
But the main reason google chrome hasn't taken off yet are for two simple reasons. 1) Not every website currently supports google chrome (bank websites, etc. with specific coding for firefox or internet explorer) and 2) Its just too new. The browser itself is relatively small, much smaller to download and use then both firefox and internet explorer... it has some pretty great features including its popular skin feature which I find to be a fun way to customize my browser -- but even on my day to day surfing objectives I'll run into at least one instance where I have to switch to IE due to a compatibility issue.
From my experience with speed, customization, reliability, and ease of use. My rankings of said browsers...
1 - Firefox
2 - Opera
3 - Chrome
Unless we are talking about cell phones... then it is impler still
1 - Opera
Firefox mobile is still not available for most phones.
I have used Chrome, it is a decent program, but surprisingly nto as open for customization as I originally thought. My only problem with Opera is it won't run my Google Wave while Firefox and Chrome will (although supposedly there is an IE add on that will let it)
Should note I have lots of browsers. Firefox, IE, Opera, Chrome, Safari, and a few others all installed on my computer, but the two that are up contantly are Firefox and Opera. FF for general browsing, info, etc and Opera for windows I want refreshed every 30 seconds (auto refresh FTW).
I use only Chrome on my home PC. Predictive text and instant search option got me onto it. It feels more lightweight and more 'resilient' to crashes.
the only thing i heard bad about google is the same you said they were insanelly invasive
blocked site etc.witch made them loose the battle against firefox
true tho firefox customisation and ease of use is top notch!
ty for info guys!
Page doesn't need to be coded especially for any browser, if they follow standards it will work on every browser. (acid tests)
Atm, opera is clearly the fastest browser, followed by chrome and safari. After that there's a large drop and then comes firefox.
Yea Opera is very good, love it.
using 10.51.
I'm running i7M with GTX260M, you do get a little bit of lag when closing or opening tabs on Opera sometimes, compared to Chrome, but you can do so much more with Opera.
I wish I knew how to drag a tab to open it as a new window though, or even open a second window.
and another problem I get with Opera is with youtube, once in a while it tells me I dont have flash.
many online applications (example) JPmorganaccess did not support chrome when it was first created. It does however, at least allow for minimal chrome support now.
Until Firefox is noticably as slow as molasses, I'll keep using it. I don't care about the others.
Like I said, you don't need any support. Coders should learn to makes pages properly.
Not really going to argue about it, not everything implemented should have to cater to every browser. There are plenty of pages that don't support certain browsers, as there are frameworks that don't support certain kinds of code. I didn't make these pages personally, but there are sites out there that do not work universally through every browser, thats the only point I was trying to make.
Yeah, and my point was that those pages exist only cause some lazyass coders don't follow the standards and use shortcuts.
this
all of the add-ons you can install (that are actually useful) and the fact that it is constantly being updated is a huge plus for me. I respect that the other 2 might be decent but I wont ever make the change unless i have to and by then I bet there will be more browsers to choose from.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Other browsers are updated as frequently too, and you can use almost every same addon.
Opera is great, it's got the most of the speed and simplicity of Chrome with a lot of the functionality and customizability of Firefox.
I use Firefox a lot too, love it for the vast selection of addons but it just doesn't feel as stable or fast as Opera especially when you start dealing with java and such. I'm sure there's an addon to add Opera's Speed Dial page to Firefox but Opera has it built in so that's great.
I use Chrome especially on my netbook where flash and java performance really matters. The lack of customizability means I rarely use Chrome on my PC though.

Chrome has been proven to be the faster of the 3
You haven't been following the progress lately then. For example I get 1000 pt more in peacekeeper with newest opera than any version of chrome/iron. (5500 vs 4500)
"our Peacekeeper service is designed to measure a browser’s JavaScript performance" Javascript is just a small part of the equation. Loading and rendering web pages is far more important. Oh and on the peacekeeper web site chrome beats opera anyway
It doesn't. Graphs don't include newer vers of opera. Js is the only strong part in chrome, so your argument is kinda funny.
Chrome and Safari are my favourites, but I respect anyone who uses anything except Internet Explorer.
I prefer Firefox myself, mostly because of the addons. Opera is very good, and the only reason i havent switched over from FF is because of the addons. Chrome still isn't working properly with some websites, might switch over to Chrome in a year or so when they've had some more time working on it, and making some more addons.
Ahh OK I must be using something else cause whatever I am using (it says Chrome) renders far quicker too (and that is what matters to most people).
I'll re explain my argument as you don't seem to get it. Java script speed is relatively unimportant to most people.
Take a look at a more thorough test.

and the conclusion.....
www.tomshardware.com/reviews/firefox-chrome-opera,2558-10.html
They have ancient opera 10.50 in that review, newer build are tremendously faster.
If i use Windows I use Opera.
Not only is it a fast browser when it comes to going through websites, but its also a fast browser to maneuver though.
Example:
rightclick+leftclick = go back to previous page
rightclick+ (move mouse to the right) = forward to the previous page
rightclick+scrollwheel = select a tab
rightclick+ (move mouse up) = speed dial / new tab
cant live without those.
A lot of you guys are on crack. Chrome is very much customizable and also VERY easy to use. Some nights I only use my mouse to browse the internet and I love having multiple tabs/pages open on my screen. Chrome is the only web browser I use period and I am sure a lot more people would love it if they knew how to use it properly. I hate IE, Safari, and Firefox .
Also a side note I really hate when people say something loads faster on something else. There is a lot of other factors besides the web browser you are using. Internet speed, distance of host, type of router your have, traffic and other things. Really, a web browser is just that a web browser yes some might be more stable and easier to use. However they all preform the same basic function and there is very little coding to do to increase loading speed.
