One safe place on the whole map, your house. and before houses there wasnt a safe place on the entire map.
Towns dungeons everything was open pvp, you had to fight for the right to sell your loot.
It wasnt for everybody, but those who love open pvp enjoyed it. Not another game i have played was as savage as that. you were fair game from day one level one.
I'd say wait for Earthrise, but it's looking to be more Guild vs. Guild. Still, it's kind of a "my posse vs. your posse fightin' for land" type of deal, so it should be fun.
As far as open world (FFA?) PvP goes, I think you're stuck with either Darkfall or EVE.

I'm not talking about RVR games.. thats just a another form of "scripted" pvp. I'm talking about out in the world, random pvp.
In RVR everyone knows where to go, and knows where everyone else is.

However, I would say "Lineage 2" for a world pvp game. I would also say that many are recommend DAoC.
But for world pvp I give a hearty thumbs up to Lineage 2 provided that people join a good and active clan.
I would agree, if you don't mind grinds, L2 and DAoC are about as good as open world pvp get.
My vote goes for Lineage II as well. Too bad NCSoft Auston killed the game by allowing bots and goldselling far too long
If you ever start to play L2, get into an active clan for sure (and not an active botting clan ) and ask them to help you. Most bigger clans get RP for their academy members, and the most active players have alts in their academy for the clan RP. This way the game can be fun doing the PvE at lover levels, and you'll learn the ropes for higher levels as well.
I'd also advice to get a dragon hatchling or wolf pup (I prefer the latter). Aside from a fighting companion (the wolf is stronger when it grows up at 55), you also have a mount (dragon hatchling will become strider at 45 and wolf can be ridden on 55 if your clan has an Aden or Rune clanhall, otherwise you have to wait till the wolf becomes a fernir at 70 or so).

DAoC is more RVR than open pvp.
When I say open pvp, I mean like UO, DF, AoC.. where you can kill the other player/faction just about anywhere except for safe zones and cities.
Lineage 2 sounds cool, but I can't play games unless they have WASD movement.
Then I don't really know of any game that has open pvp (like Lineage 2).
As you say, DAoC is rvr and Warhammer follows along those lines
Aion is faction vs faction
WoW has battlegrounds and I'm not sure if it has world pvp on any servers anymore (?)
Archlord has world pvp and it does have WASD but the WASD is a bit clunky
Maybe upcoming Tera?
LOL yeah, I couldn't think of anything either. Noone does wow open world pvp anymore. It is dead.
DAoC HAD open world if you played pvp server. It's dead.
AION isn't open
Archlord just isn't good.
Warhammer isn't open world.
Not sure what to tell him, it just doesn't exist in a fantasy setting right now anywhere.
Darkfall seems like its the only one that does. But then there is very little else to do but that, and thats not what I am looking for either. Anarchy Online?

Not open world, and feel so ancient while you play it that you might as well be playing DOS version DOOM.
I'd say EVE because it's basically built aronud world pvp. but it's scifi and if you mean fantasy then it's not eve.
I wouldn't recommend Pew Pew Playground because outside of PvP, the content is so mind-numbing you'll want to blow your own ship up just to relieve the boredom.
Mining is not time-consuming in Eve, it;s time-wasting. You can always log-off, but then the question becomes, "Why bother to ever log on again?"
The few mobs(pirates) you encounter are so stupid they make a level 60 mage killing level 1 bunnies seem like a difficult task.
Missions. Yeesh! They should be industry examples of how NOT to write a quest.
But then, this is just MY OPINION after playing for 2 years and trying to love the game. Didn't happen.

WoW has the best world PvP at the moment.
Especially now since you can join a battle ground from anywhere.
What's that got to do with world pvp?
When you leave the battleground you stay flagged for 5 to 10 minutes.
Also you can join a pvp server. On a pvp server you can attack the other faction anywhere outside of a city or noobie zone. You can attack inside of cities and nooby zones if you want an adventure.
Doing the fishing derby in straglethorn on a pvp server is a very intense experience.
If you can find a GOOD PvP server, one that is very active and has a balanced Horde vs. Alliance population, and find a guild focused on PvP you can still have a very fun and rewarding open world PvP experience in WoW.
Try looking around for guilds and asking questions on some of the RPPVP servers in WoW. (Role Playing Player versus Player) you can find guilds that aren't the traditional RP like "thee thouest" kind of stuff but rather those that are trying to keep the open-world PvP alive and refuse to enter battlegrounds / arena and instead raid towns/villages and cities (though most do participate in Wintergrasp at level 80 because it is an organized open-worldish siege.)
But man oh man do I miss the old PvP in UO on Siege Perilous and the Factions PvP on the Atlantic server... Council of Mages FTW!

Nevermind, those servers you mentioned were UO.

Best world PvP game is Darkfall. Period. There are alot of things to do in DF, if you aren't afraid of world PvP. And nothing to do if you are. PvE in DFO is 10 times more fun than in WoW. Problem is while in WoW you can do PvE pretty safely, in DFO it in any moment can end up with PvP. But why should you care if world PvP is what you're looking for? Or you're looking for another carebear game where you can at any given moment get hidden from world PvP? Then yeah, try World of Warcraft...

i know its not the best pvp but WoW is pretty fun, eccept from the bloody OVER POWERED CLASSES!.
wait nvm try warhammer online or even if ur looking for futuristic pvp global agenda
Aion, bit grindy though.
bit grindy? You mean lotta grindy?
so there are no fantasy games, that don't have this battlegrounds crap? that is purely open world?

Sorry bud, I don' t think any game like that exist right now, that is worth playing currently anyway.
The best most balanced and skill based pvp I ever played was in Guild Wars. That is arena based though.
Second best PvP experience was in DAoC, and a distant behind that was Warhammer Online.
I detest unbalanced PvP which is why I personally think games like wow's pvp blow donkey nuts.
I am like you though, I wish a really good open world pvp game would come along.
The next best thing I found to those was planetside, I LOVED Planetside, but that game is dead also. Wish they would make another game like it.
