Asheram you sound like a broken record now. There is only so many times you can repeat same two lines in different ways. You are worse then my 70 year old grandma who nags 24/7.
How hard it is to not play it? you were looking forward to the game but suddenly its peice of crap because they are charging for it? sorry dude can't take you seriously.

and people wonder and post alot about why the mmo market never changes because people still pay the 25 dollars for the sparkly ponies period

Getting back on topic, hopefully without the same person spamming. Yes, the payment options seem very favorable for an mmo that has widely available content,game-play, dynamic elements and customization.
From reading up and listening to more objective input, there's 2-months until release or so, and the developers have seemed to be very prudent by not pre-launching an incomplete product.
I can see that this is a very team-oriented game, and between that, vehicle, weapon, in-game music customization, seperation of social district from mission and combat districts for the faction vs faction game-play, $10/month or less for more casual players seems pretty damn reasonable for an mmo.
Now, we have to wait and see what the launch game-play actually has in-store. But on the face of it, this game seems to be much much more than your garden-variety third-person static shooter that you get with the BF series or any other rudimentary thrid-person shooter, so it'll be fun to experience I'm sure. But depending on really how much content and dynamic nature of game-play I actually realize will determine how long one subscribes to it.
Oh joy of being a casual gamer. 50 hours is more then enough play time for me. Hell i won't even use more then 30 hours in first month. So yeah works great for me. And monthly sub is cheap too, only 9 bucks;) awesome deal really. Looking for ward to release.
oh joy i can play any other shooter with better mechanics for free or i can play any other mmo with content for a trifle more oh joy fawn over it more please
QQ. If you don't like it, don't play it.
lol people cry about the state of mmos and then wave the banner for what is killing them funny stuff
While Less than $10 in the US may seem great, in the UK its £7.99. £1 cheaper than some MMOs and £1.51 cheaper than other mmos. I'd rather pay the extra £1 for an MMO with much more content. I was hoping this would not have a subscription but sadly it does.
From my experience in beta i have to say it needs a lot more time before release. It doesn't feel like its worth £15 let alone the actual price. Customization is the only good part imo.

Interesting. So APB not being promoted or positioned as a full-blown mmorpg, your actaully paying a little less for it. That I can understand. For a comparison, I'd actually be more upset if I were paying a premium mmorpg monthly price-tag for a falsely advertised mmorpg game like Star Trek Online, which probably has far less content and breadth and depth of game-play than APB is planning to have.
Interesting thought about what some might perceive as entertainment value.

well they hyped it "wasnt going to be like a regular sub mmo" and yea it isnt per say 10 dollars a month or 3 dollars less for 20 hours but it doesnt have any where near the content of an mmo
this would be an awesome title if they did it like guildwars buy to play pay for dl content but the mechanics and the pricing model is just a big let down sry
the thing that is worse is some are going to buy into it give there money then be mad later
and the cycle repeats itself and yet it is someones fault other than those who bought into it
the gta aspect is cool there just isnt much of the gta aspect to be found imo

Getting the first month free and paying less than a fantasy mmo is far from a bad deal. I spent more on other AAA title mmo's that probably had far less to offer.
So the way I play, getting the first 50 hours free of game-play with a $50 box is okay. If I dont like it, then I spent as much as I would on a sngle-player game, and probably get as much play-time out of it.
But on the other hand, if I want this to be a casual game for me, I'll be even paying less than I would any other mmo that I play casually.

the whole only 50 hours for the 50 dollars i spent on a shooter puts me off to start with, where most triple a shooters its free after the client purchase or mmo 30 days free unlimited with client purchase so i dont see this as evolutionary or even feasable and i dont see why so many are "supporting" it if it was anounced it was going to be f2p the forums would be on fire and these posts would probably be lost in the tide it just confuses me sorry if what i wrote earlier seemed personal

Well this isn't good news, I thought this was going to be a Guild Wars type method with some pay options on clothing/etc. $10/month isn't much but at the same time it isn't a real MMO. I hope it does well but this is going to hurt sales.
Honestly, I really thought Asheram would have better things to do. You're fighting an uphill battle man... go chat on the forums of a game you actually are interested in.

I disagree, you get all of the customization and the ability to chat with other players, join clans, form them I think and even show of all your neat custom stuff for free. You can actually play 50% of the game free and if you make nice custom stuff and sell it for RTW points, you can get cash and game time.

Customizing items takes RTW points which take cash. The social district lacks any form of social activity, it is purely for customizing and is the platform for the nickle and dime payment model in addition to having to pay to play the actual game by the hour or monthly.
The only social activity the social district offers is a vent/TS server with a 3D interface basically. Even at that you will have to listen to all the scrubs that set their Voip to simply play there sound boards or spam "Nig**r" while you are trying to have a conversation. And before anyone says vent cost money too, if you run a vent server are you really going to get rid of it if you buy apb? I didn't think so.

I'm not even going to bother explaining to you how you're wrong. -.-

Your first point is where you're most wrong. Customizing items doesn't cost anything, but manufacturing them so that other players can use them will. Which might be the first expense to get tossed out if the model flops.
As for the social districts being social, I think that when the game is live, people will be chatting a lot, and showing off creations. Probably even too much. I sure hope they have a VOIP volume slider.
3rd, it's hardly a nickle and dime payment model. The only thing they nickle and dime on is people who try to auction their creations. If you just play the game, the rate is a pretty flat one.
In terms of comparing it to vent, I just want to point out that there's a major difference - people will be chatting with strangers a lot, other players who are just playing the game. It'll be a more casual social dynamic, with a lot of passing interactions. I think that'll actually play out a lot differently than VOIP in games that require people to join servers, groups, etc. In APB, all that's required is that you're in range (not entirely a good thing, but definitely different)
It's actually kind of wierd that APB is so social, almost like second life on one hand, and then a pure action game on the other. I wonder if it will attract a lot of people who just want a virtual chat room, with all that incredible customization, but hate the twitch-based PvP. And I wonder what RTW will try do with a user base like that..
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

You are right about the manufacturing, I already knew this, just chose my words very poorly. However to clearify even further, if you so much as make a smiley face, you must pay real money to give it to your friend or sell it on the auction. Want matching clan outfits? Your out big bucks paying to manufacture them for everyone in your guild, each one costs real life money.
Secondly, you are right again, vent is for people you know that you want to talk to. I typically invite people to vent in other games if I enjoy talking to them, even if they are an enemy. In APB the voip is local and everyone around you can hear you, this works both ways, regardless if you want to listen to someone eating their lunch or a mother yelling at their kid on the computer. There is no option to disable this unless the other person so chooses to disable their mic or use PTT. (I think this is a cool system tbh (minus the annoying people who will go out of their way to do stupid shit with the voip) but again, its not worth the payment)
Finally, there is nothing social or even remotely similiar to second life as far as socializing is concerned. There are zero social activities besides just talking outside of the action district. You can change your appearance, you cannot actually create game content like you can in second life. So there is not even a foundation for a player driven social aspect.
Let me also add that I was super hyped about this game and was pulling out my wallet for the pre-order when I read over the payment model. The game looks like its going to be great, just not worth that much money great.
I read a comment saying "We are still talking about the priceing?" Only thing I will say on that is ,,, ,Duh (points to thread title)
Whether this is a MMO or not, is not the point. Age of Conan could be argued it is not a MMO with only allowing X number of people in an instance. Since the game revolves around instanced gameplay.
The problem I have with the pricing model is they are half assing the hourly rate. They are making it to where they make a lot more money for those who think they will only have 20 hours to play and end up spending $14 or $21 in the first month just on play time of 60 hours. They may or may not go monthly sub for whatever reason, cause of the commitment issues people tend to have. And that is FINE.
The problem is the prices of those hourly rates sucks. It just shows they are trying to grab every nickel we have, and then dime us on other things (waiting for more in the future, but it may happen).
Also, the $50 you are paying for the game does NOT translate into 50 game hours.... as I stated before in a post on the second page.
Every MMO gives you the first month Sub for free. In this case it is a $10 value. But it is only 50 hours. This translates to roughly $1 = 5 game hours. So if you are paying $7 a month, that should equate to 35 hours or something very close. But it does NOT. This is a brazen statement to me. I may have to counter my preorder cause of this.
Having a good game is one thing. Having a game that tries to suck not only your free time ( a willing sacrifice) but your money as well? I dont like it.
When Katrina happend, or when soldiers (not just US) responded to the Sept 11 attacks, there were several games that stated they will offer discounts/ free playtime/ free rent to those persons affected. That means a lot. Even though some of it is just in game currency, not a huge deal, but it shows they are looking out for their playerbase.
I dont feel that with Realtime... unfortunately. Or it could be because of EA. I don't know.
Well, we better get used to this new idea of monthly payment, cause we will probably see it in all EA games (SWTOR). Pay a monthly fee for unlimited access and pay for the hours you want to play. This model is very popular en Korea, and it has its logic. I can play, mostly all day, but my gf and my dad, that work, can only play during the weekends, so maybe they will find more appealing the idea of just pay for the hours the will actaully play and not for the whole month.
I honestly think this is something good, cause they are giving us the regular way and a new way. I would be angry if the only method of payment was to pay for hours of gameplay!
I don't see a problem with this idea. It's great, and flexible. Doesn't force you to do anything.
I am gonna agree and say I love pay per hour, with an optional monthly.
It's the best of both worlds and proabably only on these boards, full of 'F2P' asshats, would it even be challenged that way it has.
So many in this thread have argued a point without seeming to understand it.

You can actually play 50% of the game free and if you make nice custom stuff and sell it for RTW points, you can get cash and game time.
It is my opinion, that your opinion is incorrect.
It is my opinion, that your opinion is incorrect.
I am gonna agree and say I love pay per hour, with an optional monthly.
It's the best of both worlds and proabably only on these boards, full of 'F2P' asshats, would it even be challenged that way it has.
So many in this thread have argued a point without seeming to understand it.
