Good game for wife/girlfriend?

Any suggestions for a game my wife could play as an introduction to MMO's?  She tells me she wants to try one out.  Not sure as to why, but what the hell, if it means more game time for me, I'll play along.

Again, suggestions? - THANKS -

i guess lotro is one of the best for this purpose. Very noob friendly and with fluffs that a girl/woman would enjoy.

Id say WoW; its pretty much as simple as it gets, and there are a lot of other women who play.

Its the most stable game out there right now if you think about it.

    Get over it already.

Planetside =>  because is more fun than the average mmo. I like it.

Guild Wars => a single buy, play forever.  Womens are smart and like these details.  I don't like Guild Wars for lots of people like it.

WoW =>  for some reason lots of people like it. I don't have much faith in popularity...but he.

Probably the better option is Guild Wars,   maybe one of these cheaposales on Steam..  for about a single 15 $ , play a mmo forever. Hell...  buy 2 copys.

LOTRo is another good option, if she is into the movies.

I've had quite a few girlfriend's try to get started with MMOs and it never lasted until my wife got her hands on WOW. After that, she became an addict to the genre just like me.

I'd imagine any of the relatively polished established MMOs out right now would serve as a good introduction-type MMO; World of Warcraft, Aion, EverQuest 2, Lord of the Rings Online, and Guild Wars.

I suppose it varies on your significant other's preferences, but my wife thoroughly enjoyed all the above titles because they looked halfway decent graphically, played relatively smooth, and didn't have overbearing or megacomplicated mechanics. From those my wife started to branch out a bit more.

I recently got my best friend (who's also female) into MMOs and she really enjoyed Aion with me, mostly because of the beautiful artwork I would say. It really depends mostly on what "theme" of MMO she would like: sci fi, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, etc. Use that as a starting ground, and if the theme doesn't seem to matter, I would ask what she would be looking forward to while playing: beautiful graphics, good community, pve vs. pvp, crafting, etc. I'd also ask about how much she'd be willing to pay because a lot of first-timers may not be willing to shell out the cash for both purchasing and subbing to a p2p MMO. Hope that helps!

Lord of the rings or wow I imagine. Depends on her tastes. Some women might go for eve or dark fall.

This isnt going to be a popular suggestion. But WoW is still one of the best beginner/gateway MMO's.

It is easy to learn, very forgiving, has a large community. A person doesnt even have to know how to play video games to play WoW. I'll use my ex-GF as an example.

She'd watch me play Simcity 2k, took me just a bit to teach her. Within about 2 weeks she wanted to try The Sims. From there she picked up WoW, and I would say with zero "wasd" and "3rd person" and "fighting" experience she was able to play WoW without any questions within about 2-3 weeks.

Took her a bit longer to understand how stats worked and what not, but really you can play that game as a total noob and stack str on a mage and still be able to finish quests and kill mobs without much of a problem.

    Just one piece of advise:

Do not, under any circumstances, just run quest after quest with her. Try to show that MMOs have more than just this one layer of mindless XP grind. Let her read quest dialogue, get into crafting, etc.

Having good artwork will certainly help, especially if she is not already a gamer who appreciates good mechanics over looks.

Any major fantasy MMO is likely to be a good start. WOW is certainly the one with the least learning curve.

try Battle of the Immortals for a free fantasy type or CrimeCraft for a free shooter type they are both very good games

I would agree with WoW as a starter. The game has a lot of aspects to inform her about what she likes and does not like, crafting, PvP, PvE dungeons, exploring, lore, PUGs or guild activities. Once she has her feet wet, maybe reassess.

Though WoW is probably the best choice for her to start, you have to think of the consequences. She is going to want to play the game with you, at least at start. Are you ready to devote time to WoW???(again, if you have already)

I play Entropia Universe with my girlfriend, and many couples do the same.  The game isnt full of flashy combat maneuvers, tricky combinations, or endless quest runs.  Its socially oriented and good for explorers.  There's also tons of options as to what you can actually do.  Its very slow paced, but rewarding.   The payment model is controversial, but its possible to play for free.  My girlfriend appreciates that as she does not game as much as I do, so a subscription is not practical for her.

WIth regard to the world depth, I consider it the Ultima Online or Asheron's Call of 2010.  And the graphics update makes the game even more enjoyable.  It's almost lifelike.  Ferns and leaves move as you pass through them, you can watch the trees bend with the wind, night is actually dark, and last winter snow blanketed the ground and fell from the sky.

City of Heroes would be a good choice.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

An "Intro" to MMOs?   You need an MMO-Lite.  Perhaps something like Runescape or Puzzle Pirates.  Then gently ease into a full-blown subscription MMO after a few weeks or months.

    agreed.

Have her try Free Realms. Its mmo-lite. and actually kind of fun. It offers a variety of different things to do, most of which are easy and fun.
