I started this poll because i am assuming that GW2 will not have any true crafting, and how much it will keep people from playing it.

I won't be playing it. Course I had made that decision before finding out from your thread that there doesn't seem to have a good crafting system. Just never was a fan of the original (and the start at max level bit that went along with it).

Well.. ive always preferred games with at least some sort of crafting.. if its just combat based, it can get old fast.
Crafting doesn't need to be the main feature but it should be up there. By no means does it take presidence but I still enjoy it and will play a game with it over one without it.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
"I hate crafting and refuse to take part in it".
The only time i ever enjoyed "making items" was in a neverwinter nights trainer module where you could design your own equipment from all the appropriate parts.
I'd spend hours doing that.
But otherwise? meh.

I don't believe your assumptions are founded on anything but hearsay for the only info released as I know of says "GW2 will have a robust crafting system". Other than that there is no info that I am aware. Also a lot of people liked GW2 for the story, PVP, gameplay, etc so i don't see a majority not playing it if there isn't a really good crafting system.
While I don't mind crafting in general, I've spent a lot of time just sitting around crafting for people for free, let's be honest, in most games it isn't crafting, it's manufacturing. It's taking a pile of pre-determined parts, putting them together in a pre-determined way to produce a pre-determined product and in almost all, it's the exact same product over and over. That's just not that fun, there's no individuality to it, it's just cookie-cutter stuff making cookie-cutter end-products. Fun? Not really.

I generally craft because of the promise that it will give me an advantage but it almost never does; by the time I've gotten to the point where I can realize the advantage I've already surpassed it with loot/gear/other-stuff.
As a vague example, in Wow, by the time you've gotten to the point where you can make a blue level 45 weapon with weapon making/blacksmithing, you will have already spent more gold than any level 45 is supposed to have and you will need to have visited level 50's zones to get the necessary materials. In the long run it is -much- cheaper to just buy the weapon in the AH from some level 80 trying to make money off of the skill. Most of the WoW crafting skills are most useful for twinks, actually. I noticed the same trend in other games.
By no means do I want to work gathering mats and building things just to sell them. Based on the crafting systems I've seen, I won't miss crafting at all in any game that doesn't have it.
I'm not the one to have the patience required for pro crafting.
But however, I do enjoy crafting, because I have plenty of friends who have crafting as their main game, and not simply Questchasing or Player massacring.
And, I usually earn well by selling them resources I pick up along my way.
And I would really miss my friends and that income, if there were no crafting. Ofcourse, crafting has to have some quality to it... So it's fun to do for my friends, and not just crafting being ammo dispenser or time/money sink "patched on to maybe get some crafter player" type of game.
The last of the Trackers
I'll play it w/o crafting, it's just a hack-n-slash for the most part anyway... if it's anything like the first. I have other games I craft in. UO was my fav mmog craft system, I ran a shop in Yew for years, as well as for selling some rares. Otherwise I like games you can upload to, actual real crafting
Not sure on the poll... it just has its place more or less.

Crafting should always be part of any MMO period .
Played:TheRealm,FFXI,WoW,FE,Eve

Future play: FFXIV,SW:TOR
Crafting is a must for me when playing MMORPG's if it's not there or its tacked on as a side thought I won't play the game, there are more things than just combat that I like to do and crafting is one of them.
I hate crafting and pretty much only do it when I'm forced to.
it really depends on the game tbh. in some games i hated crafting (eve was bad for me) and some its great (fe) and in others i could take it or leave it, but it was something to do when i was bored (lotro)
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
I'm a big crafter. Mainly because I like the social aspect that comes with being a Crafter. However, I do like Adventuring and PvP. Finding the good balance between these activities is the key.
Yeah I pretty much agree with this, I'm a big fan of building in games. However crafting in MMO's has always (even SWG) seemed extremely boring to me. I've never quite understood the appeal, outside of credits.
A lot of games would be way better if resources weren't devoted to such things IMO. Not to say I protest crafting existing, if there are people who like it devs will make it, I have no real problem with that.
I do think games and gamers suffer because of features like this, to me an economy in a game is meaningless, there are so many things I think could fill that gap and make such things a forgotten past, that's not missed.

"I only craft because it gives my character some advantage."
I don't like crafting all that much, but I will when I have to. I prefer games that support dedicated crafters.
I'm not here to complete my forum PVP dailies.
Well originally it was very social, like repairing weapons for other players on the spot around the town forge. But currently it's mainly about mini-games, so I hear you.

I am not into crafting and i don't think crafting has to be a part of every single MMORPG.
I have crafting with such a passion i would rather grind mobs even if it take 5x more time to gather what i want, BUT i belive crafting is a BIG part of mmos, its just poorly done till now, you have crafted 5000 iron swords on the 5001 you get a lemon on the slot machine and you lose all the mats you took 2h to gather ¬¬ and other incoherences.
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.

Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Personally I can't stand it!
Find It really boring, repetitive, and becomes a major time waster, especially so if there is a fail percentage. It can easily take up many hours/days/weeks/months to gain any real progress with it(depends on the game), and that is just not feasible to me when you contrast that with the hours/days/weeks/months it can take to level your character.
I understand some people use crafting as a bit of a "break" from the actual game, and sometimes to make a little more cash. That's fine and all, but honestly (as I see it) if you're so bored of the game you're playing, that you need to mindlessly watch a gathering bar to collect materials for hours, then there really are better things to do with your time lol
I'm kind of addicted to crafting. Every MMO I play I find myself spending a large portion of my time on it, even when collecting the materials is tedious, annoying, or expensive. Adventure, exploration, and treasure hunting always comes first for me, but there's just something about crafting that really grabs me nonetheless.
I like being as self-sufficient as possible in MMOs, and crafting is a big part of that. Now before someone shouts "Then why don't you play a single player game??", I just wanna say I like being capable of doing a lot of things myself, but that doesn't mean I prefer to adventure alone. I also like being able to help out the friends I meet online, and more than anything, I hate feeling needy.
I personally love crafting (if it's done well) just as much as the other aspects of a game.
Old-skool SWG crafting was the BOMB. It really was an art form, and making a superior product that was sought after by the whole server was a definate high.
Im gana be the Odd ball here and say I dont care that mutch for Crafting... But I LOVE Harvesting... No idea why.
Payed for 3 accounts for 3 Months In Vanguard so I could just run around and harvest... God I miss that >.< Im a sad little man.
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.
Samuel Adams
I think crafting is largely a complete waste of time in a MMO.
It is not that I don't like making things just that I don't like the way crafting systems work.
Harvesting is completely boring, even if you add some sort of minigame. The only way harvesting would not be boring is if you found materials while fighting and you did not have to go out of your way to level a harvesting skill.
Crafting is basically taking stuff and making an item. Most of the time it is predefined items using predefined stuff. Minigames do not help here either. Even games like SWG that allow more options of stuff and items, it is still boring. Maybe it is just me but I don't care about fine tweeking the statistics on an item.
There are games I have made things in and enjoyed it, but you probably would not call it crafting. The Spore vehicle creator was great. Designing costumes in CoH was fun too. I need visual customization or I don't care and I don't want to have to mess around with plans and levels or materials. I don't like crafting so much as customization.
All men think they're fascinating. In my case, it's justified
