    MMORPG.com:

Do you have anything to say to the D&D Forgotten Realms MMO rumors?

    Bill Roper:

I can't speak to the specifics of what we're doing, but it's true that we have another game in the works. We won't be making an announcement until late summer, and we're still a ways off from launch. I can say that this is a game and a franchise we're very excited about. I think people are going to pleased and a bit surprised with what we're doing in terms of the game, how we make it, and even how we sell and support it. The game is being developed around new design principles merged with Cryptic's community-first approach to ongoing development.

Translation:  They're going to develop another craptastic game that no one will play.

    Wonderful.

i love the over reactions and nerd rage when ever name Cryptic is mentioned. rofl..so damn funny.

You actually believe that anyone in their right mind would buy another Cryptic game after CO and STO?

You have got to be the biggest fool or fanbot ever. Or both.

Im really looking forward to their new game. Yep, looking forward to its utter and complete failure and the bankrupting of Cryptic.

    They deserve nothing less.

4E Forgotten Realms seems like it was made for Cryptic, frankly. I wouldn't have said the same of any previous iteration, but now, definitely.

I don't understand why many of you are saying it's gonna be NWN/Forgotten Realms? None of the artwork listed on this page:

    Cryptic Studios - In Development

with the tag: "Cryptic Studios is initiating development on several new projects. Keep watching for information and announcements on these exciting titles. In the meantime, take a look at some of the concept art and let your imagination wander!"

resembles anything like the NWN/Forgotten Realms. They DO show a lot of various urban fantasy-esque scenarios and peeps with guns (and one cool off-road vehicle). How can we be so sure that this next one coming up is NWN?

Speaking to MMORPG.com, Cryptic design director Bill Roper said that this new game will be a pleasant surprise.

There have been rumors before that Cryptic is doing an MMO based on the Forgotten Realms franchise. I guess we'll find out if that's true or not by late summer.

Bill Roper and Cryptic can go straight to hell. after Champions and STO. nobody in their right damn mind is gonna play anything those douchebags release. i sure the hell wont

If that's not a set up for punch lines - I don't know what is.

Sadly that's more confirmation, at least to me this is the NWN they supposedly have the rights to make. So much for the next D&D mmo being worth while.

Well that depends on if they have learned anything, by releasing those two games as they were. I'm not counting any studio out personally, as they may release something decent at some point.

I guess you have to churn them out in quantity rather than quality If you want to make more money. Good luck with the next piece of trash.

Guys, my cousin's  sister-in-law has a friend who knows some guy who works in the mailroom at Veridian Dynamics. That guy know someone's aunt's grandmother whose great-great-great nephew works at Cryptic. Get this; its going to be a super hero based game in OUTER SPACE. Check this out. You will be able to run instanced missions that will have your blood pumping as if you were sleeping!! OMG!!!!! That sounds so BAD ASS. I hope you guys are ready for this last part. You buy the game, but then you actually have to buy being able to make a characters, buy each level, buy each race, and BUY EACH MISSION using their very own cash shop!!!!!

    Who's excited???????? I KNOW I AM!!! OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comnitus: Quality > innovation.

To a point I agree. But if any other game that was more polished or with mature content was offering the gameplay in Champions, I would switch to it. I like the classless system and the fast gameplay with lots of movement and few cooldowns, those things are innovative compared to games in the last 3 years. My point is that it's either innovative or nothing for me, since I am just tired of the old MMO gameplay. I exhausted the thrill of Blizzard's item ladder with Diablo2.

Tardcore: Champions Online only needed to do two things to be a runaway success. Be more advanced than City of Heroes and incorporate the Hero System that they freaking purchased the license to into the game. CO did neither. And as to their wonderous open build system, yeah it worked out fantastically, let's see, melee toons were at a serious disadavantge vs ranged until when ... LAST WEEK?

I understand your point. As a minor thing they didn't aquire the HERO system, just the Champions IP. And honestly, a game based on HERO would just be all the same powers but reskinned, which is not fun from my point of view of building interesting characters that make me think more than other games that build the characters for me.

Also, now melee is tons of fun, thats part of what has me so stoked on the game recently. Very fluid MMO melee combat, the martial arts moves flow really nicely. But yeah, wait a year and check it out, it will be even more balanced then.

Betaboo: And as far as other companys i wouldnt worry to much good products sell bad products fail it is the nature of buisness. And think about it maybe their is a reason so many people are upset--have you ever seen this reaction to something other than the NGE? i havent.

Well I am not about to defend the STO situation. I am surprised people can play it at all, tbh. But at the end of the day, STO and CO have different teams and the higher ups like Jack and Bill are total gone from CO, it only has a few folks subscribed so it would be a waste of their time.

Cik_Asalin: Which, as you can see, your in the minority, not only here, but market-wise. Glad to meet one of the few that support the less intelligent, more mundane.

You don't know what you're talking about. What major MMO releases have so much freedom to design your character as Champions Online? (I'm not talking about costumes, I mean abilities). I have characters that are combinations like iron mans powersuit with ninja beast chainsaw laser sword ice cages, that's just one character man. I'll tell you what is less intelligent, are the games that lazily balance themselves with restrictive boring classes and the outdated gameplay that goes along with them. Those games like ToR, WoW, STO, those are less intelligent.

As for your the issue of profits and minorities, Champions is getting actively developed so what does it matter to the players? I go on the official forums and there is great developer - player interaction (not like STO at all, you guys should go check out Champions Forums).

It will be so good that you can't help getting addicted to it, because that is the MMO Cryptic has been raising funds for so that they can surprise us with just how wonderful they really are. The real WoW killer will be born soon!

does this mean they plan on having sto fixed and running with full content, good ground combat, a decent crafting system, end game content and finishing the klingon faction by the end of summer?

i mean, shouldnt they finish that game before moving on? or are have they decided its not worth it and moved on?

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

I feel like some people have asked this question about Cryptic before...

Well chances are, if your not happy with STO as it is right now, then pretty much forget it. i doubt it will change much, if at all, especially if Cryptic are working on another title now..  but players of CO should already be aware of things like this... image

After looking at the pics on the site (thanks btw), I really hope it won't be shadowrun or palladium's rifts..

I'm not going to beat the dead horse with disdain about cryptic games, but also I was hoping blizzard was snagging that ip for their secret project.

I won't be torn tho. I'll wait til another developer comes out with something else from this ip, and yeh, I was one of the few who liked TR.

  • RhenkarRhenkar Member UncommonPosts: 68

God I hope WOTC pulls the rights from Atari so Cryptic can't make the Forgotten Realms MMO.

Would really freaking suck to have one of my favorite D&D settings get ruined so hard.

Argh, I wish Bioware did FR MMO instead of SW =.  At least it wouldn't be as bad...

With a setting like FR you need to give to a developer that at least somewhat cares.  Like how White Wolf saw good in CCP to have them make WoD online.  (even if it isn't out yet, I still have faith in CCP to make a more true to the IP MMO of WoD than someone like Cryptic for FR)

edit:  didn't notice the link to their pages with the concept art.

Hmm, it doesn't look like Shadowrun, for which I'm very glad.  I want a Shadowrun MMO more than a lot of things, but not by Cryptic.  It looks something more akin to the secret world.

Hell, there's freaking star spawn(cthulhu spawn) in the alley in that one shot.  Please let it not be anything Lovecraft licensed (Chaosium) related either.  God Cryptic just make something up yourself to ruin!

wow the company is on a role

just take franchise slap on the same engine , hype the game , offer lifetime subs and volla the dish is rdy

Wont be suprising that even after seeinh what they did to CO and STO they will make more money

Could of been worse, they coulda got hold of Greyhawk lol

As much as I love <3.5 D&D, I have never understood the passion some feel for the FR... it's all so generic and dull. Those drizzt novels were god awful as well.  And yeah, I know GH was as well, but it always had a rough naive 70's fant6asy charm thing going on, and  theres something said for being the first :P

As far as I am concerned, if Cryptic HAVE got hold of FR then it might be the perfect licence for them heh.
