Never Take Your Eyes Off Of PVE

I just wanted to share this story to get an indication of how often things like this might happen in the future. If you dont want to read the paragraphs just read my list.

I was killing mobs earlier today when i noticed a grey player, looked like he just got done killing someone he was low on hp. So, being excited at the chance to do anything other than kill mobs, of course i tried to kill him. Well he turned back to blue right as I got the last swing on him and then he died. I turned red at that point but thought it was no big deal because i can just go to an enemy goblin/troll camp and get that back quick. Well as I was on my way to ork lands i had 2 other humans try to kill me. I had my only mount on me and enough reagents to get me back to blue faction, so i had to kill them. I got even deeper red than when i started.

I finally make it to ork lands and I find a guy mining ore. I start killing him then he runs away but he is lagging because he is running in place. I cant hit him (hes like a ghost his character is there but hits wont register) and he keeps teleporting all over the place. He was probably a bot because he would just go right back to hitting a rock after teleporting around for a couple minutes. I got lucky when his ghost started doing the mining animation, I ran to the nearest ore node and started swinging my axe randomly and i hit him (he was invisible). Then he became visible and started teleporting away again. I finally killed him with an arrow, honestly i dont know how i hit him it was just pure luck because he was lagging/teleporting so hard.

Anyway before I can even loot him an ork on a pig runs up and 3 shots me with a 1 handed sword.

These events make me seriously question this game for a few reasons...

1. Criminal/alignment system- Pretty terrible, how was I supposed to know the guy was going to turn blue as i was hitting him? Now I am stuck in red with no mounts, no access to any human towns.

2. Hacking/lag exploiting- this is like the fourth time this has happened to me with someone teleporting around/invisible. Seriously? As I was trying to kill the teleporting ork I was frustrated and kept asking myself why i am even playing this game if people can exploit and hack like this.

3.  I got 3 shot with a 1 handed weapon? really? I barely even had a chance to swing on the guy one time and i was dead... for some reason being able to swing a 1 handed sword that fast for 70 damage per hit seems pretty imbalanced, and i was in full scale armor. Why am I wasting time leveling anything but just a 1 handed weapon?????

I just want to know if the rest of my darkfall life is going to be filled with these things. If they are I need to know so i can just uninstall right now. Im just hoping that I got extremely unlucky with 3 consecutive horrible events.

I am just going to window-swim for a few days while I try to figure out how to become blue again. The lesson I learned was to never take your eyes of off PVE because bad things will happen.

My Darkfall character was stuck in RED alignment until I killed enough people AFK hitting trees and rocks. Darkfall is hardcore

This is something I've complained a lot, the alignement system is indeed broken and serves more as a Great Wall for newer players than anything else. Vets can just farm alignement back up using an Alfar Alt from his clan, killing noobs in 3 hits, having a clan mate unclan to kill him, etc.

Hacking Exploiting, never happened to me. I saw a Teleport Hacker once but that was long ago (November). I'm unaware of this type of hacking programs (as you mentionned in your post). It's quite possible that it exist, I just haven't seen it myself yet.

New players will die in 3-4 hits against a Vet. This will be the case for 3-4 months before you can actually sustain 5-6 hits and deal a decent amount of damage. Had you even hit that Vet, I'm pretty sure your damage would've been around 10-20 anyway so hardly any chance for you to win :P

If you really don't like this, perhaps look for a different game. Though quite frankly, I haven't been able to find a good Fantasy MMORPG Sandbox with full loot  FFA PvP(at least amongst those that are released).

Thats the main problem. DF got kinda a monopol on full loot FFA PvP games. If there were an alternative DF would have been dead long ago, but as there arent other games to play, you have to stick to it :)

Alignment system is exploitable and needs to be fixed - I agree.

But comparing back-hit from the mount (70 dmg) to front hit in foot combat (10-20) is just misleading.

Melee attacks from the mount do crazy damage - there is no point in grinding 1h mastery over 50, because you'll be hitting for damage cap anyway (with good weapon).

Mount attack (kick and bite) do 50 damage - always - and it's not dependent on any skills / stats.

Misread the part where his opponent was on a mount. But regardless, even if he had been on Foot, a Veteran would still hit in the 60-90s. Mounts, Enchanted Weapons and Destroyer being the only thing that can bypass the cap.

    1. You should have thought about that before killing your fellow blues. And you arent stuck, you can access a wilderness bank to get more stuff.

    2. Yes, hacking sucks. You should have reported the person, not just killed him.

    3. Yes, the gap between newbs and vets is an ongoing problem. He did extra damage to you if he was on a battlemount because you get a damage bonus. And its difficult for you to hit back. You lost because he had a winning strategy as much as he also had an unfair advantage by having a high level toon.

  • shaon94shaon94 Member Posts: 41

I had something similar happen onece.  The only difference is I just reported the hacker and then moved on to find more reds.  Next time do not try so hard on just one hacker, they are not worth it.  it is not like EVERYONE is a hacker just move on next time.

Oh and if they are grey they are going to turn blue eventually it is up to you to attack them or leave them be.

Aligment system works as intended. Yes, it's exploitable, but it's much easier not to attack blue players than to ask friends or guildies to help you becoming good again. And as to accident becoming red, it's a good lesson. You gotta learn the game you play. All those becoming rogue and red things aren't that hard to understand or find out.

There is a lag hack. I mean, I haven't seen it myself but heared complaints about it. But it works just the same way as a real lags. For a short period I had connection problems in prime-time. Bad ping and packets loss mostly. And my toon moved exactly the same way you discribe. When I dueled my buddies, they just couldn't hit me on account of it.

As to your case I'm almost sure it wasn't a hacker. First this lag trick is been mostly using by veteran PvPers, and no veteran PvPer would mine naked and run from a noob. Second. Perhaps that guy was mining because he had problems. When your connection sucks you can do nothing but mine...

Alright that really bothered me. "Alignement System Works As Intended".

So you are saying that when a group of players attacks YOUR Clan City, it's better to "no attack blue players"? It's VERY COMMON for players to turn red during a siege, mainly because he had to kill a Blue to DEFEND his city when his clan had not declared "WAR". It's extremely common and this is why players often farm their alignement back up on alt characters, friends or guildies, etc.

The alignment system is only an issue for new players since they don't have the ressources to go Blue again. Other than that, Alignement System does not "exist" for Veterans. 1: There's hardly no need of ever visiting a NPC City when you have all your skills and a Clan City. 2: You can farm your alignement back up from -100 to +10 in a few minutes using Alts, Friends, etc.

In other words, the alignement system does not work as intended. It's broken and easily exploitable.

Getting 3-shot by a mounted player is no surprise. I've seen people get 1-shot this way in fact.

If you can, get to some cover and nuke the mount. Firebolt with velocity works well for this if you have it high enough.

But yeah.....find a chaos bank, gear up, and lay waste to some miners, or reds afk at the chaos stone. Think of it as an adventure....something to do besides the PVE you love to groan about.

Because seriously, man....PVP happens. You have only yourself to blame if you don't like it, since you are by choice playing a game with FFA PVP.

    Just asking a question....

So all I hear about this game is PvP that, I PvP this or I was PvE then got PvP that....but what other then PVP does that game even offer....the website really seems to aim tolds a PVP backed by alot of PVE(trader, miner, crafter) play or is that just for show? Just wondering If I should even try this game out when I get back...

    Played:TheRealm,FFXI,WoW,FE,Eve
Playing: Nothing( stuck on a ship)
    Future play: FFXIV,SW:TOR

For the first 4-6 months, it's 90% PvE, 10% PvP. After that, 50% PvP 50% PvE.

In no way is DarkFall "PvP backed by PvE", PvE is far too important to just "back PvP", it's the only way to effectively get stronger, gain gold, reagents, certain rare mats (Dragon Scale, Enchant Materials, etc). There's still a lot of PvP if you are in a Clan though but you'll still be PvEing a lot (far too much in my opinion).

There is not such a thing as PVE on this game since any PVE incursion could at any given moment become a PVP encounter, so you can farm a mob spawn for hours and if you are lucky enough no other player will appear there or you can always expect someone to appear and the fact it is blue doesn't mean he will not attack you.

Every square foot of Agon is a PVP place, even "protected" cities are scenaries of combat and death even between people who doesn't belong to any clan. Crafting stations are visited by craft gankers who will kill you and take your things, veteran players who will not be affected for the towers' beams or will have arcane protective items on and powerful spells to cure themselves while are punished by the towers.

And becoming red is less than little inconvenience for them since most of them have alt accounts with red characters who they can  farm for alignment every time they want.

So the PVP aspect always will impose over any other aspect of the game, it doesn't matter how interested it is.

The website is kind of misleading...

"Over 10 thousand concurrent players per game world."

There is no way this is true. I mean the world is big but for the amount of people i see on a daily basis there is no way that there is anywhere near this many players.

"No more leveling. Improve the skills you use."

This is really just a blatant lie. Yes, you don't level your character himself up but the whole game is based on leveling your skills. This is probably a bad thing because instead of all your skills getting stronger upon level up, you have to level each one individually. I would say there is more leveling in this game than there is in a lot of games I have played.

"The largest MMORPG battles ever - involving thousands."

If there was ever a battle with thousands of players i think they would all lag out and nobody would be able to do anything. Heck, I get a lag spike every time a single player comes into clipping range.

But as for what Madness was saying i agree on the 90/10 ratio of pve to pvp. I mean, i have at least 35 times more PVE kills than PvP. Plus you have to PvP to get reagents and stuff just to PvP.

My Darkfall character was stuck in RED alignment until I killed enough people AFK hitting trees and rocks. Darkfall is hardcore

Everything in the game revolves around PVP. There is still farming mobs, exploration, crafting, socializing. But this all supports PVP. There are no cutscenes, storyline quests, raids, or epic boss fights. There is no chasing after elite tier X gear.

    (i only readed first post)

first of all if you do something for a long time in game a gm will contact you and ask you to say something back else he sees you as a botter and ur screwd.

second they just detected the hacks players were using and did a mass ban from what i see there are no more hackers in game.

even the website where these hacks come from says DETECTED! its the 3d time they need to remake there hacks since they aventurine coded them all. (im not a hacker myself im just using that forum for mmo talk like here and i like to watch evri1 cry and demanding there money back cus the hacks they paid for made them loose there acounts lol!)

and someone killing you in 3 hits in darkfall is IMPOSIBLE dont say crap thats not true. (or if you were on low health then my answer is welcome to darkfall dont be a carebear and get back what you lost)

There is no misleading about that statements

     - The ability for "over 10 thousands concurrent players" has been proofed already..is a while ago tho (around end of beta / launch with epic queues to log in number of online players got displayed that days) .

     - See they tell you you can / must improve your skills, the lack of overall levels gives you the freedom to do participate in everything wizthout level restrictions hence "no leveling needed". The skills in itself improve rather in tiers (25,50,75,100) then what we usual think of "levels".

    - There was about 2000 players in a single area reported involved in a single siege event ...a while ago tho..but capacity is there.

The 10 thousand concurrent players per game world is actually true, though there's not 10k actives players on each of the servers. What they mean by this is that the Cluster Survers can hold up to 10k actives per server.

No more leveling, I'd have to agree but as Darth said, skills works in 4 tier (25, 50, 75, 100). You're still basically leveling up. I mean, the ability to kill Veteran players is no where near as close as EVE's and even Tasos in one of his post on ForumFall said this: In Darkfall a starting character can attack and hit a veteran character and inflict enough damage to kill him after a few minutes if not challenged. http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=243962

I think that pretty much sums up the situation, even though many older players seem to completly fail to see this situation.

As for the largest MMORPG battles ever, I believe the largest one was on EU. Feel free to correct me but I believe there was a 500vs500 battle. It's the first and only battle of this size. You'll hardly ever see sieges with over 100 players on each sides nowadays.

Darkfall is dying if not dead already, I was a nay sayer in this arguement but I see it myself.

Only pvp nowadays  you get are arranged encounters because you cant find open pvp anymore.

The devs lies and give us half assed patches/expansions(if you call them expansions)

Most of the main gameplay feature mechanics are flawed in one way or another or more than 1 way.

So much is wrong in this game, I already unsubbed after 14 months, DFO got worse since the first 3-5 months imo, which is why population is getting worse, if only they had like a few million more and waited another year to finish, this game would not of been dead on arrival(pretty much for mmorpg standards at least)

R I P DFO, you changed mmorpg industry none the less, showed there is a big niche market for this type of game, we just need non retarded devs to have the funding and motivation to make it.

you complain so much, did you ever think just that maybe DF wasn't for you?  I remember that after the mounted PVE nerf to bring it to the level of anything else, you cried that PVE was now  impossible.  I remember some people laughing at you and saying "Do you just cry about everything?".

    [Mod Edit]

-Darkfall doesn't even have a box version on the shelves so any arguments about the game staying low population because of the ruleset is pure idiocy.

Plenty of us like DF the way it is.  And Izure, [Mod Edit] it is easier to hit someone with a bow than an 50 elemental nuke.  Archery is fine for what it does and always usefull in certain situations.  [Mod Edit]

Srsly, I am good at DFO, but its stale and boring, and even after having won many solo and very outnumbered and even fights, I still think DFO is trash after the first 6 months, especially with the latest patches, they are crappy and the it had potential line is going out the window in every patch.

Its people like you that dont like people to tell the truth about a game, even though I quit I bet you I will stomp you in a duel with me using r50's vs your so called easier to aim bow, kiddy.

Be more fan boy, maybe it will raise the population from 500 to 501 if your lucky.

Sorry but as big of a world darkfall has, 300-500 actives is not enough.

Combat is imbalanced both in skills and mage vs archery and other factors like Gear costs and ecumberence.

This game is such a Fake Sandbox its not even funny.

Sure it has housing, but all the slots are full not, and housing is just another bindspot, nothing more, just a spot you can use to get to a mob so you can farm to pvp and die due to lag or a zerg.(cities only population left, but they bring 10-20 for you 2, or will fight naked if you bring more, most alliances do at least).

The performance overall is getting worse too, not just in sieges, but FPS dropped a lot and Lag is worse than ever, just wondering around solo is a lot more choppy than it was previously before weather/wildlife(their anti radar hack lol).

Sorry kiddo/fanboy, dont try to sugar coat a Peice of Sht, only reason this game is alive is because it has Full loot, FPS combat, with a stupidest/tedious/boring grind.

Calling me a moron wont save DFO, how do I not know what I am talking about? I followed this game since 2004(forum account registered on DFO forums 2006), I know what the real darkfall was suppose to be, and we didnt get it.

We were expecting a corvette, and we got a normal not special edition honda. Truth hurts, game sucks, get on with your life.

If you enjoy it, have fun, I doubt it will last long, and I highly doubt these so called Expansions will help, didnt do much last time but increase pop for a month, then even less people were left after that month due to how horrible it was/is.

The website is kind of misleading...

"Over 10 thousand concurrent players per game world."

"No more leveling. Improve the skills you use."

"The largest MMORPG battles ever - involving thousands."

I never said i didnt believe the server could hold 10k players. What i said was there is no way there are 10k people subscribed. There is no way there are 10k players subscribed right now and i think the fact that the server can handle 10k is pretty irrelevant because it will never have close to that many subscribers.

Claiming that there are 2000 player events and events with thousands of players is pretty misleading. Sure it may happen once every few months but thats like a car dealership claiming they carry mercedes when they get 1 used mercedes every 2 years. Its something you see advertised but never actually see for real.

My Darkfall character was stuck in RED alignment until I killed enough people AFK hitting trees and rocks. Darkfall is hardcore
