The MMO genre is likely to become more stale and more behind the non-mmo-genres due to the networking technology can't keep up with the physics and graphical technology. I think that due to this MMO will in the end go back to be a bit more hardcore and more about the social aspect due to there just can't be much more selling point for MMO due to it will be very limited compared to what a smaller scale multiplayer or single player game can give the player, in terms of physics in the game world due to it is not required to send mass information to a single server from hundreds  and thousand  of players at once.

Actually, if networking technology can't advance faster then MMOs seems to be pretty screwed. And god damnit i'm actually getting pretty tired of games in general. I've been doing pretty much the same thing over and over in different games for 20 years now. God damn I need to give myself a break.

    Nope. Nothing in 2010.

But then, there wasn't anything released in 2009 that was worth playing and 2011 isn't looking so great either.

guild wars 2, 2010/2011 who knows.

  • dougmysticeydougmysticey Member Posts: 1,176

Well, there are much better single player and co-op games coming this year than MMOs but there are a couple that might release this year.

    GW2

    FFX???

    Vindictus - looks pretty good

APB -if you like FPS games.

and DC Universe online but that will not be out till November.

AOC just released Rise of the Godslayer expansion. I have been playing and it is pretty good.

Well... 4Q or 1Q, but I highly doubt 4Q. I'd hate to see them push a premature release just to hit the holiday shelves. Holiday or not, people will buy it because it's GW.

    Nope.

This is the year of the expansion.

    WoWs Cat and Eve's Incarna.

A few others have xpacs releasing this year but who cares the entire genre is basically those two games.

    Playing: Rift, LotRO
    Waiting on: GW2, BP

Vindictus (a.k.a Mabinogi Heroes) will launch by the end of Q4. Definitively a game to look forward to.

Final Fantasy XIV is the only thing I'm excited about, and the only MMO I want to play that's been announced in the coming years besides GW2.

    Playing - EVE, Wurm

Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi

    Waiting - ArcheAge, Salem

depends what your looking for... when people say there is nothing thats there opinion, and thats all it is, is an opinion which they are entitled to but so i'm I,

I been palying MMO's since they come out and gaming since the 1980's atari, commdore etc , I know alot about nearly every MMO to date that is P2P some f2p very few.. rune of magic is one and DDO only 2 I would consider for F2P .

    1. came out sept 2009 Fallen earth is what I been playing it has a free trial now and I enjoyed it since release it has come along ways fps, MMO it has alot of RP if you like that, they just had a huge patch about PVP some like some do not, they wil be adding housing to this game soon , its one of thebest game out there for commnity and the custumer support is the best hands down..

Gm's play in the game and keep the chat clean ..

    2. AOC came out in 2008 had a bad release but just had an expansion may 11 2010 and they did a great job they won awards for being the most improved mmo for 2009 and 2010, it has a very cool combat system, the lore and the music is great.

The pvp could use some work, but set aside that the rest if the game is awesome now.. it was slowly making a come back and it has , great job funcom

    3. mortal online is a pretty game and its mostly PVP and FFA ..style it suppose to be release june 9th I think but who knows they set this game back alot, game has potienal but I plan to wait after release to see how this goes.

4.DC unverise its gonna be like champions online which I did like except the lack of grouping, was more like a solo console game but over aI did like, this si suppose to come out in nov, 2010.

5.Dawntide can't say much as i'm beta testing sorry but should eb a good PVP game check it out no release date set. early stages of beta I have a feeling this will be the one to play for PVP though.

    6. craft  of god, is one I will be watching comes out may 27th 2010 and they ahve one more beta you can get into may20th , they also will have 2 week trial when they game releases, only problem, no servers in america, but I didnt lag much in beta so not worried there, only problem I seen was able to understand russian and such , but I have a tranlatar which fixed this problem, if teh game sucked I wouldnt of bother but its a eve type talent , with real time talent trees, youc an also mount anything in game even at level!..

7.xyson prelude 2012. comes out june 15th2010 , maybe longer but as of now that is the date it has terforming and such if you wanna build your own world and its PVP style, mostly . this is another one to watch.

8.APB its like saints row and GTA if yoou like them type of games you may like APB its an MMO style with mostly PVP with missions and such, it has promise but lacks a little spice for me , but I may get it, if they drop the sub fee its 10 bucks , or hourly, but still its should be free to play, but a great looking game to, the game play is 7 out of 10

    9. Star trek online is decent game for space and ground combat, it lacks some content and and such , alot of people dislike it i,m not a trekkie fan so it doesnt bother me. I don't play this like most of the other games I do, its more of a filler for me.but decent game to try out , came out 2010 feb

    10. final fantasy, suppose to be out this year we will see.

    11. star wars STOR... title says it all, this one should set the market for MMO;s and be number 1 ..can't wait for this spring 2011

     12. guild wars 2, nov this yr. 2010

Some games people will bash but , I alwyas tell people try them , because you may not like what others do.. I like each game for there own reasons... some better than others fallen earth and age of conan as of now is my 2 i'm playing alot of..

next yr it may change star wars for sure , but everything else we will see what I will be doing then. good luck on your search.

Okay, so we might be able to look forward to Final Fantasy XIV.  At least one promising game might come out this year.
