I don't get the hype for FF14 : FF11 had the horrible playonline and FF14 will be using the same. Also it'll be made for a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard like the first game. The art style is all emo and gay and theres only 3 races to choose from, two of them look stupid so you have to pick human. The world will be really restrictive with tons of invisible walls from what I've seen of the gameplay.
The ignorance is overwhelming with this one. I might become blind.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
For me, 2010 is all about WoW: Cataclysm and multiplayer console games such as Red Dead Redemption. I hate the FF IP with its stupid hair and 12 year old heroines, so I'm not going anywhere near FF14.
Ah, stereotypes for the win. Well, ain't my problem.
I'm curious as to which "stereotype" you're offended by.
Is it the stupid hair?
Or the preteen-protagonist? Preteenogist?
No "stereotypes". Just a valid and easily illustrated criticism of the art style.
Yes, it has been a turn off for many. In some FF games (or all of them?) you can hardly even tell the boys from the girls. And even when you do figure it out, you wonder about it... I mean they are seriously feminized... and they are like 12yo... and the devs did that...

It is all true and judging your comments of the past, you're a blind fanboi and will defend anything.
a) FF14 won't use PlayOnline
b) There are 5 races.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
Hah, I remember all those movies. Those old B&W's are great.
Yes, true, there are of course some that dress like it, they follow their anime very fanatically. They live their games, which I'm sure impacts their culture. As the games push the limits, they do as well. Like the pied piper of Hamelin?

Your actions speak to me so loudly I can't hear your words?!
Do you even know what trolling is? Apparently not!
Trolling is when you follow someone around the forums trying to start flame wars. Following a specific person, looking up their post trail, slapping all their posts with stupid replies to spark fights. Discussion, debate and disagreement is NOT trolling. But accusing people of trolling over a posting disagreement on a thread is simply trying to start a flame war. If you have proof that I am trolling you than present the evidence, otherwise shut the hell up.

Why is it so hard to imagine that there's more to it than that? You don't have to "follow someone around" to be a troll. You can post any bad comments about a game without any basis (good trolls do it on forums specifically for said game) which will cause an argument and then circle around the topic while making even more baseless accusations and further throwing oil to the fire.
Sad thing is that usually trolls don't even know that they're trolling.
Now that we got that out of the way, I explained that the way "instancing" works in XIV is not the way it works currently in other games and is more like "phasing"- and the only reason why it's called "instancing" is because there isn't a better word for it currently.
Then you posted a part of a translated interview where there were lot of "instance" words used, which explain what I explained in my post but in a worse way because we think of different system when the word "instance" is used, and that is not what the devs mean in that interview. On top of that, the word in Japanese might be different from "instance" but the translator may have used the common word because he didn't know what exactly the developers meant by what they said.
Then, you say that if the mobs pop instanced that's even worse. We can continue from here. Why do you think so?

There is nothing out this year, wait till 2011 and by then all the player sheep will have forgotten how bad all the 2009 launches were.
There is more to MMO’s than the hairstyles of your avatar guys, graphic quality is important, but hairstyles are not.
True this.
Unfortunately for me, dated, overly cartoony, or anime style graphics turn me completely off a game. Nothing wrong with the games, I just don't like it.
The MMO genre is likely to become more stale and more behind the non-mmo-genres due to the networking technology can't keep up with the physics and graphical technology. I think that due to this MMO will in the end go back to be a bit more hardcore and more about the social aspect due to there just can't be much more selling point for MMO due to it will be very limited compared to what a smaller scale multiplayer or single player game can give the player, in terms of physics in the game world due to it is not required to send mass information to a single server from hundreds and thousand of players at once.
Actually, if networking technology can't advance faster then MMOs seems to be pretty screwed. And god damnit i'm actually getting pretty tired of games in general. I've been doing pretty much the same thing over and over in different games for 20 years now. God damn I need to give myself a break.

when did graphics = fun games?
While i think the MMO genre is quite stagnant i do not think it is because they can't render the most advanced graphics. I think it all comes down to gameplay. Current MMO's are still offering the early 2000's gameplay.
As for 2010...unless there is some sleeper hit or some surprise launch (we can all dream) 2010, like 2009 will be another lackluster year
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Well, I think that if a game looks subpar graphics wise at the time of release, it's a problem- because it will keep getting uglier and uglier as the time goes on. That's why imo MMO's especially should release with decent graphics right from the start, and not try to cater to the lowest common denominator. With single player games it's not that much of an issue because you're not supposed to play them for months or years to come.
I agree that gameplay should be the biggest priority, but in my opinion graphics are not that far behind.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
According to the official Final Fantasy XIV Online website, a release date of 2010 has been set for the upcoming MMO. An exact date within the year has yet to be announced.

If i didn't know better i would totally fall for this Yunosuke, he really looks like a hot babe, omg.
So far I'm having a blast with APB. I didn't expect it tbh, I tried out the beta out of desperation, wasn't too hyped about the game. It sounded too much fps on the paper. Guess I was wrong, game reminds me of GTA Vice City in a good way

I really doubt it will release in 2010 unless it does right before the end of the year just in time for Christmas shoppers. Still, regardless what they're saying now I would plan on FF XIV actually launching in 2011 and not 2010.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Yes I do agree that it comes down to the gameplay but lack of physics can limit both gameplay and the make-beileve. I think we are approaching a game era where players will start demanding that the games feels more iike the real world in terms of how an object falls to the ground or crumbles. Basicly realistic world interaction.

"Crazy hairstyles"... check.
Preteen appearance... check.

Let's see if we can find another FF14 example, shall we?
I wonder if it gets worse?
It does!
Oh no, variety! Yes, I said the bad word!
Here, more preteens!
Again!
At least my pics aren't photoshopped.
Ye gods, even the pictures you're posting are so clean and pretty.
Where's the gritty? .. the dark, visceral savagery?
I agree, the world for the most part is not dark nor gritty, but not filled with rainbows either like that one girl's hair.
If that's not your cup of tea, that's understandable. We are finally getting to reasonable criticism here.

Final Fantasy XIV, APB, and DC Universe Online are the only AAA MMORPG's that are set to come out in 2010 as far as I can tell.
Is TERA set for 2011?
apparently they said Tera would come out 2010 but not translated for North American users...so 2011 is the North American release of it.
