How mush money did you waste on games? And, on what game?
And I don't mean mmo's or games you liked and played for years,
I mean they ones you buy, play, but after a month you realise it's not for you.
I'll start:
none, I'm verry carefull when I spend money, I never follow hypes. (only when there was wow.. but it was worth its money)
I mostly wait until there is a free trial, and then I try it, and If I like it I buy it (like lotro)
edit: oh wait yes there is one: battlefield 2, i spend 30 euro on it, and that damn punkbuster thing doesn't let me play for longer then 2 minutes.. then I got kicked.

waiting for ... nothing..

With all MMOs I purchase I play the first "free" month and at least 1 payed month just to feel I got my moneys worth. Even if I initially dislike the game just in case something in the later game changes my mind.
If it hasnt grabbed me by the 60 day mark then Im done.
Unless of course its a game I play "On Release". Since most MMOs have issues at release I give the Devs 90 days to fix it and make it worth my sub.
Having said that, there are only 2 games I regret purchasing. DFO and STO.
I wish I could get my money back for those 2 POS.
Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR
Played: UO - EQ1 - AO - DAoC - NC - CoH/CoV - SWG - WoW - EVE - AA - LotRO - DFO - STO - FE - MO - RIFT
Playing: Skyrim
Following: The Repopulation
I want a Virtual World, not just a Game.
ITS TOO HARD! - Matt Firor (ZeniMax)
Something around $100 when WoW first came out, for maybe 5 days of playtime.
Ever since then I can't justify constanly paying for something I may seldomly get to use, so I found a free server for WoW and about another month after that, I started playing F2P's and never looked back
eye of the north (loved the previous tho)
wow bc
wow wotlk
aoc
l2
nwn
nwn2
spore
assssin creed
etc etc etc
in the end all that money would have been better spent on the 4 of july then all those game
Ok...so I had this huge list of games I "wasted" money on all typed out but then I went back and thought about it. I really never "wasted" my money because I took something from all of them that I played. I learned what I like and what I don't like.
Except AoC...wtf Funcom...seriously...WTF!?
The two mmo games I felt ripped off by purchasing them for me have to be AoC and DDO. I have been disappointed by others but overall I still enjoyed them for quite some time or at the very least still got some enjoyment out of them. However, I really felt ripped off with DDO and especially in the case of AoC.
The Funcom launch was so bad it has pretty much sworn me off from being involved in any launch since then unless I get to try the game out extensively beforehand through open beta or some other type of offer. It was simply that bad and inexcusable.
NOTE: I'm talking about when the games launched so spare me the 'vast improvements' or the 'lolwtf it's f2p' arguments.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Somehow sony managed to get me hooked on Legends of Norrath one weekend and I actually wasted about 50$ buying packs, which I immediately regretted and never ended up using for more than a week. That was a pretty damn stupid waste of money.
Luckily that's about it. I don't regret game choices, as even the worst of them I usually get a few hours worth of entertainment from. I only consider it a real "waste" if the thing goes on sale the next day or I see the same game for half the price somewhere else. That really drives me crazy.
I also predict this thread will derail from a topic on games we wasted money on, into what games we are angry with and now, in hindsight, consider a waste of time, as someone above me has already been kind enough to demonstrate. Typical.
The morning sun has vanquished the horrible night.
About 1000 Pounds buying games playing for a week and then not using them again over about 10 years and if i didnt enjoy a game its a waste of money no?
So let me get this straight. You're going to judge what someone can or can not consider a waste of their money in reference to games they purchased?

Well, I bought both WAR and AoC at release, so there's $120 down the drain. My biggest single waste of money so far as games go though must be Hellgate: London. Bought the collector's edition plus a lifetime sub, so right around $200 wasted on a single purchase.
It's too bad, I loved that game.
The cost of one retail box of Star Trek Online. That was money down the drain. Other than that... I pretty much still play everygame I purchased at one point or another. Even my old nes games when Im in the mood.
When? over the past year or so? Longer would make for a long post lol
WoW, about $80. Total waste.
Beowolf. Didn't work on my video card, even though it was not listed on the box as one not working (they had a list on the box). However when I realized it didn't work, I checked the website and it covered it as one that didn't work and with no plans for patch(failed business). omg, lost $2 lol Well, I'll keep it for whenever I get another video card. Nothing to do with outdated card, it's just bad programming.
Otherwise, everything else was good to go, even the NWN2 expansion.
M59, UO, EQ1, WWIIOL, PS, EnB, SL, SWG. MoM, EQ2, AO, SB, CoH, LOTRO, WoW, DDO+ f2p's, Demos & indie alpha's.
I could put down a very large list of games I bought but ended up disliking, but the thing is I want my own experiance, want to see things for myself. Yes it has cost me allot of money, but since this is my hobby I know what I am getting myself into.
Hellgate: London
I bought into that game, thinking it was going to be amazing. That was the first and last time.
I play very few games on PC these days. And even when I do, there had better be a 14+ day trial available or I don't touch it -- I don't care who made it, how long it has been in development, or what the hype is over it.
For consoles, I rent. Gamefly has saved me COUNTLESS dollars on renting games. I have come across about a dozen games, so far, that I thought for sure I would love and wanted to buy. Only to find out during the rental that it was a waste of time and money. Thank God for game rental companies. It has been rare but I have kept/bought a couple of games after renting them, however. I think of it as a trial fee I pay every month to be a member.

I probably spend 125$ a month (not including subscriptions) buying pc & 360 games which roughly equals 2 or 3 games a month. over the years id say a good 60% of the money Ive spend id consider wasted. However in the grand scheme of "entertainment" costs i probably got enough enjoyment out of most of my purchases to consider them overall not a waste.
Don't even go there. If you start addinng it all up and consider what you culd have now if you would have taken that same amount of money and invested it or simply put it in a savings account you'll end up probably majorly depressed. Heh..know I would at least.

true! I refuse to count out how much money I've spend on wow the past 5 years on xpacks and sub ect..
I think I could go on holiday with that amount of money ^^

waiting for ... nothing..
never wasted money. Just time.
No money. I have spent a lot, but i don't feel anything was "wasted"!
In about 25 years of gaming I would probably say somewhere in the ballpark of $28,000 considering but we are dating back to Atari and Colecovision days, moving on to C64 some of the forst and second gen colsoles, if you factor in harware the number would be closer to $40,000 or so...
Not a penny wasted, I still have most if not all my original games/boxes/hardware...
On a single game? no more than the box + sub price/month...
What are your other Hobbies?
Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...
I have spent alot of money on games, both single player and mmos that have given less entertainment value than others. However, as it was my willingness to try them, I cannot say it was wasted.
No point in regret when you try things, you just move on with the experience and hope you are wiser for it.
A LOT!!! Funny thing is, I actually am very careful about what I buy, too. I probably have bought on average one or two $30 (or more) games per year in the last 10 years or so. I've also bought a ton of $10 games, most of which are a waste. My two worst purchases: Bioshock and Civilization IV. Don't get me wrong, they are great games - but like so many other games I've bought they just didn't capture my interest. I probably played both of those games a grand total of 1 hour each.
Best purchases: WoW, City of Heroes (I hate it now, but it was definitely worth the money considering how long I played), Civilization III, Plants vs. Zombies, and probably my best purchase ever: Front Office Football 2001. I played the crap outta that game. I probably played 60 seasons over a couple of years. I'd give my right eye if EA would either give the rights back to Solecismic or re-release the game on its website.
I was pleasantly surprised when I went from Apprentice to full 5 star Elite in under 2 months. I was pleasantly surprised again when I went from Elite to just barely Hardcore in 2 weeks. Apprentice, here I come!
Hellgate: London. I still kick myself now and again for buying that damn game.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
This yeat I bought Demon Souls, God of War collection, Borderlands+ 3 dlc, Dead Space ,subbed to WoW, AOC, Champions Online 1 months and getting ready to buy Red Dead Redemption. Though I believe after RDR that will be all for awhile. Almost $300.00 this year. Throughout my years of gaming I have no idea how much I spent but every penny was well worth it except my time in AOC, Warhammer, Champions Online and Warhammer Online.
