Really? Damn. Jebus. Well I don't think that a laptop is going to qualify for a beta test though.
Why not? A lot of laptops are easily more powerful than some peoples PC's.

I'm loving the beta, guys. Gameplay is very smooth so far. Graphics aren't bad either. The story is very compelling. Only thing lacking is players! There aren't that many because not very many people have been invited.

Congrats!
I have not signed up for the FFXIV beta, nor any other in a long while. I have found that I tend to get burned out on the game(s) before they are even released. Plus, I look forward to the Newb car smell that comes in the Official launch days!
Server issues aside, I wouldn't call the test "Alpha" at all. SE is really being modest about it. The game itself is extremely polished for an alpha build. Only the servers and few glitches drag it down.
It's of course a stripped version of the real thing, but that's to be expected. All the major features are there and working completely fine.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

You guys do realize that by participating in the alpha/beta that you are bound by the NDA...which there is a stickied post one post from the top...
