Publishers have never affected my gaming in any way.... who cares who the publisher is... ah yes, those prone to account hacks and such. Accounts have all been set up quickly, no problems.. responses always quick 'enough' (I can wait a day or two if needed, 'it's just a game'). SOE have been amazing for me, even opened an old account with 24hrs 'free' game time for me so I could get my old character names. NCSoft helped guild wars 1 be one of the most popular games ever, not using them again would be stupid. You can't deny the success of the original Guild Wars, and NCSoft were part of causing that.

I have 'never' had any account for any game hacked, and i'v played A LOT.. IMO opinion those who have acount issues cause them themselves, not on purpose, but possibly due to not being aware of how to avoid the issues.

It isn't your accounts being 'hacked'.. it's YOUR computer.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Again they wanted every serial number etc but this time they wanted every credit card I had used for NC soft purchases and this is where I drew the line and said screw it.

because of this I lost a GW account with all expansions, an L2 account, and a CoH/CoV account.

All due to supposed Credit Card Fraud that I did not commit.

they games they publish are fun to play what can I say?  Sure the customer service sucks if you ever have to deal with them but..

i have never had any problems with any of the games Nc published and i've played/owned all cept lineage 1. NC took very good care of thier other games like CoX, seemed to me the games NC east was in charge of developing are the only ones that had problems (Aion and Lineage 2)

I am aware and I think that is one of the most effed up business practices I have heard of, but, I was really speaking more to account security issues.  Yes, I think this is dispicable, and I feel for those whom this has affected.

NCsoft has a rather LONG history of not dealing with hacking/botting. Have you ever tried to play Linage2 as just one example?

Then when they finally do something about hackers/botters, they start swinging the ban hammer around wildly, with little concern about the consequences of their own mistakes.

They also have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to western games,  Have you noticed the three that they have axed have all been western?  Not to mention that they continue to demonstrate that that they don't have a clue about how western markets differ from eastern markets.  Have you looked at Aions western retention numbers as an example?

Having my NCSoft account stolen, and with it my CoX and Aion accounts, I am NOT subscribing to this game if those amateures handles this game.

They can't even properly implement a secure password change mechanism.

EDIT: For those thinking it is my fault I have only one thing to say. I have played scores of MMORPGs and was playing two others when my NCsoft account was hacked so the problem is definetely on their end.

Also when trying to get my account back they wanted me to give them my CoX serial id and CC, a game I haven't played for YEARS, and certainly still dont have the serial id  and CC left. My Aion serial ID and CC was apparently not enough.

Also, who the heck keeps old credit cards which are not valid anymore? How in the hell am I supposed to remember the number of a credit card I threw away years ago?

This pretty much shows that to be a producer you dont need a brain, just money.

I have had the exact same experience as you have and I DID took the time to send my serials etc... and within 2 days I had my account back.. NCSoft Customer Support is freaking epic -.-

incorrect.  I did everything the first time. but I drew the line at listing 3-5 credit card numbers in an email to some random support guy.

Strange. All they did when I wanted to get my Aion account back after being hacked, was give them the last four digits of the registered credit card on the account.

The guy originally asked for all the serial keys of all the games on my account, but I couldn't find those to save my life.

Took about 3 days to get my account back, which isn't the greatest, but at least it was relatively smooth.

But maybe things are different for the supposed credit card fraud.

Little correction here. Wow suffered from the exact same problem and still does to this day. Though no where near as bad. With the many years of lawsuits and trying to find in game means of dealing with bots and rmt's and then finally comming out with the authenticators the problem has lessned significantly.

So even Blizzard and WoW had this issue. Every popular MMO does. But I know I know this defeats the rant against NCSoft.... carry on and ignore logic.

Could be a lot worse when I wanted my FFXI account back I had to give them 7 forms of proof I was the account owner. CC number, Chars on account, Place of residence when I started the account, DoB, my phone number from like 3 years ago, and 2 others I can't remember lol. But yeah was a pain getting my FFXI account back.

Actually, it does no such thing. Simply because others have had the same problem, doesn't justify NCsofts lack of action(in terms of Linage2 for example). Nor does it justify their wild swings with the ban hammer.

Blizzard has done a lot to deal with the problem of spamming and botting.  Things are MUCH better now than they were in the past.  As long as there are fools that are willing to pay for such things, there will be people willing to supply them.

That having been said, NCsoft has a long history of ignoring botting spamming for as long as they can. That attitude just isn't as tolerated in the west, as it appears to be in the east. Yet another example of NCsofts lack of understanding of the differences.

I find it very difficult to wrap my mind around how much stupid there is in this thread.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true — you know it, and they know it." —Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

    WTF? No subscription fee?

the only thing that is "lol fail" is this thread.

Aion and GW2 may be PUBLISHED (do you people even know what that word means) by NCSoft but I assure you their ways of handling account services is much different - as is evident by the difference of guild wars, aion, and L2.

Its not just the Lineage series,  GW had tons of spammers in it ALL the TIME.  From the very early on when I started, and I started at launch.

So much spam to play a game, or run through the missions, or sell this or that.  They banned a bunch of people, but it didn't cut down on it much,  most of the people they banned were botters and gold sellers.  You still had rampant spammers.

Been doin this MMO thing since 1998 - started with UO and I have virtually played every single sub MMO since - and not ONCE NOT ONCE have a I been hacked, or had any "customer service issues" with any company except star vault, which they eventually fixed after a few months.

    Why?

Attempts to hack an account are more pervalent for NCSOFT and Blizzard games.  I've never seen a phishing attempt for CoX, but I've seen plenty of them for AION and there was a whole thing about account "trades" when I played guild wars a few years back.  I haven't logged in in a while.  There were plenty of spammers in guild wars though, so I suppose if you weren't careful with your information you could have given someone something you shouldn't have.

See this just says you haven't and don't play NCSoft games or any MMO's for that matter. FFXI, Age of Conan,  WoW, War, EQ2, UO, I could go on but if you've ever played an MMO and or visited the forums of an MMO you'd know for a fact that Bots, RMT's and hacked accounts are things that plauge EVERY MMO until it's not worth doing so. UO to this day still has spam, RMT and bots and it's going on what 13 years old?

West or East it doesn't matter, the publisher doesn't matter. Every MMO has the same problems with RMT, Bots and Hacking. No one has yet found that magic formula that stops it. I still get emails constantly about my non existant WoW account being hacked. I don't have a WoW account. I did a free trial last year finally but thats it lol. The forums for WoW are still riddled with complaints about bots, rmt's and hacking. There was a big thing not that long ago about massive wave of hacking for WoW durring the same period of time that Aion had it's massive wave of account hacking.

And yes NCSoft is doing the same as every other publisher when it comes to dealing with RMT and Bots. They are trying and thats about all any of them can do because as WoW proves you simply can't stop them yet. And yes NCSoft has been actively trying to stop them just as everyone else has but just like everyone else they have some success but can't stop them.

The only thing I do have an issue with is that NCSoft hasn't come out with there own authenticators yet, but it's something they are discussing and working on.

That so far is the only thing working in stopping account hacking. RMT's and Bots and the spam they bring is still around in every other MMO though.

And the wild swings with the ban hammer comment is laughable. The majority of the innocent claims have been debunked. Like all ban waves from any other MMO some do get caught up but like every other MMO many rightfuly banned players get in an uproar because they got caught. They began with this whole I was wrongfuly banned campaign and try to get the community all worked up.

Sorry, but the ban waves is something commen with every other MMO as well. And yes some innocent players get swept up in them and NCSoft reviews cases that are disputed.

I personally have never had a problem with NCSoft support, but thats just me seems numerous people have. So call them on there support.

Call them out on the fact that they don't have authenticators or Security tokens yet but at least acknowledge it's something there considering.

But for the love of jeebus lol quit trying to nit pick on them for problems that every MMO has. And don't lie about them taking no action against RMT's, Bots and spammers. I've personally seen them taking actions against them, the ban waves were for that specific reason as well.

But again carry on and don't let silly things like logic and fact end your rant.

    Why?

I don't ever, nor have I ever bought gold.....when people talk about "oh my NCsoft acct was hacked for this game this game and this game....It is most def. something on your end, not theirs.

Same here, i think we have SWTOR/BioWare fans trying to infiltrate these forums, they can't understand why SWTOR has dropped off because BioWare were meant to be the only dev team making a game that's innovative.

I understand what your saying...but after the facts....it is pervalent in every MMO...acct trading and gold selling will lead to hacks...and no doubt that happens a lot in GW and WoW

It's even a huge problem for Runescape lol which is a f ree to play.
