Just as the title says, why criticize a game that isn't even out yet. All over the place I'm seeing people say things like the event system doesn't work and that the personal story system ruins it and a metric butt ton of other things. How can you say that when you haven't even tried it yet. The way those people say things is as if they had played the game already and are writing reviews of it. I just don't get why people are criticizing a game that almost no one as played yet. All we've gotten is little bits of info, where's all this new bad info coming from? Or are people making it up?

Well id doesn't seems like it to me...If you read through the GW 2 forums, you'll see mostly positive replies...If you compare it to other game forums..well,these ones are like a peaceful heaven on earth to them:D
+ the game has the ultime hype - that's enough to see that the game is very positively appreciated:)
I am really looking forward to it...GW2 looks like the thing which was prayed to by every MMO player for a few years now:)
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
Its nature of forum people. They tend to show their opinion and it doesnt matter if you like or dislike it.
Live with it. Accept their opinions or ignore them.

These are the forums. Every forum in the history of the internet, no matter the subject, will have people bitching and complaining about whatever. Plenty of baseless assumptions are the rule not the exception on game forums. Don't let that get to you. On this site I skip over certain posters here since all they have are non constructive negative posts on everything.
For this particular game a good place to go to is guildwarsguru2.com . They still have people voicing their opinions and concerns but it is a lot more constructive than here where a lot of posters base their opinions on very limited knowledge.
Hell, even SW:TOR's hype fails when compared to this one's. Lets hope it lives up to it.
I agree with the OP. Flaming a game without knowing anything about it is pretty damn stupid. Just because the game will have 'feature a' or 'feature b' doesn not mean it will automatically not be a good thing. It could be that 'feature a' is an instant dsiqualifying factor for some people, but guess what, people like that can be described as bigots.
To sum it up, a game is more than a sum of its individual features. It is hard to define what makes or breaks the appeal of a game to us gamers, but I can say for sure it is not one or two generic features. I'm betting many of us on these boards enjoy a wide variety of games with distinctive playstyles. Why the flaming then? Please leave your prejudice and preconceptions under the bridge with the trolls and try to have a more positive outlook, people.
I'm hoping Guild Wars 2 will be a quality game. Certainly the developer os capable of creating an excellent product, and hey, if there is no monthly fee, asking for open world sandbox features galore is unrealistic, if not a little infantile and obtuse.
Nope swtor is still the king of hype even if it's not at the top of the hype list. GW2 has 3500 forum threads SWTOR has 35000 ,both have been on the list for about the same time. As for AN pulling it off, well as an avid GW player i have no problem saying they will pull it off.
AN are not some learner dev team who have never made a mmorpg(i know some think GW was not a mmorpg) before, GW sold 6 million copies and had the best story mode of any game to date.

Welcome to MMORPG.com (and gaming forums in general). Your naïveté is refreshing.
If you look at my account information you'll see I've been here for quite some time. It just annoys me that it is seemingly impossible to rid these boards of 'team teenage angst'.
LOL...get used to it OP cause this is what happens to all MMO's or games, some more than others.
Granted but A-net's been almost completely silent for 3 years, Swtor has it's fan fridays etc. Considering gw2 has only realised information for about a month that's some pretty big hype in a really small amount of time.
Either way SWTOR will remain king of hype purely because it's a Bioware mmo. The stuff they realise could be terrible and it would still be the most hyped.
Guess I should've quoted, I was talking to the OP. I agree with your post, but you know that the world doesn't work that way.
Edit: I agree with Warband on the whole TOR vs. GW2 hype debate. GW2's hype is high now. Let's see what happens after E3.
If my informations are correct, GW2 is not attempting E3, so little change there...About TOR I wish them to persuade the not-so-happy-KOTOR-fans-of-TORs-current-look...
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
It's a bit up in the air if they will but seems kinda likely now they won't now since interviews are already being arranged etc. They'll probably be doing PAX like they normally do. Doesn't mean they won't release a lot of information simulataneously with E3 like they did the original gw.
ArenaNet never goes to E3 anymore, they'll be at PAX I'm sure. NCSoft might be at E3 and perhaps they will have an information booth on GW2, who knows.
Why praise it?
Why praise a game that isn't out yet?
Do you have a problem with that? You should.
Your serisou? You must be new here...
It's a proven historical fact that beer saved humankind.
If you look at any of the upcoming MMO's that is set to be released, you'll notice there is a vocal minority on each of the boards touting its doom. Even without ever playing a game, people seem to become the next Miss Cleo when touting its doom. It's actually quite hysterical at times. I try to reserve judgement on titles, unless its something I know I won't like. (full PvP)
SW around 10-2008 GW2 around 8-2009 so not really bout the same time. unless 10 months is about the same time
Beyond the extremes of either side, I enjoy reading peoples thoughts on the different game systems and how it might affect play. Sometimes someone is able to point out a problem or a boon that I wouldn't have thought of myself. Or they happen across a bit of information that clarifies that aspect of the game a bit and helps me understand what the game is about.
Other times I enjoy watching the people vie between each other over who is right on whos opinon.
People have basically said this in this thread already but it is as simple as this:
The more over-hyped a game is, the more it is critized.
Basically when people have to watch others say a game (that they haven't even played yet) is the most amazing game ever, they feel the need to explain why that isn't true. We watch game after game get hyped up by people giving it 10 on hype before release. Then those same games turn out to be crap (Remember how long Warhammer was top of the hype list, yeah that game was quality....).
People just want others to be realistic for once. No game that is coming out in the next 6 months will be amazing, completely different, or truly innovative. It is not how things work. But people get so excited over the next game release that they forget. Then they preorder, again, and then they come back to the forums after launch saying how they regret their preorder, again.
Don't hype a game so much if you don't want to hear the criticism in return.
It's true but inversely a game needs hype to sell well. Which is ultimately why people hype up games. Without hype games may take severals years to build up a fanbase compared to a game that's highly anticipated.
Either way it's not the hype that kills games but the fact it was poorly made in the first place. Hype is but a means to sell games it's not inherently a bad thing but should always be remembered that it's purely a marketing tool.
Anyway I doubt it even needs to be discouraged since there's more than enough people that have become bitter due to past let downs so much so that most people hyping are probably aware of it's flaws they just want to hope for better days.
Every game that comes out gets this kind of defense. Well, the truth is that complaints can sometimes wake up the devs in time to get a serious issue fixed.
Why do we complain - because we want the game to turn out well, rather than crappy.
If you are in an apartment building and smell smoke - it's wise to let other know so they can tell the super and look for a fire.

Look a little deeper.
This isn't a forum populated with MMO gamers.
This is a forum populated with Forum Players (some of whom have an interest in MMOs).
Big difference.
Most are here to argue about the perceptions of games - comparing and contrasting them against other games in a very middle-school "one-up, one-down" kind of way. It's not really intended for indepth discussions of particular games. You're better off going to a game's official forum for that (though those usually have problems of their own, they still have a higher signal to noise ratio than here).
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Why not?
Is their opinion less valid because it is negative?
