If you've been on the fence with Darkfall and that $1 trial wasn't close enough to "free" for you, you might be glad to hear that Aventurine has finally kicked off a fully free 14 day trial today.
Accounts are limited to one per computer, and accounts originating from Asia will be capped at a certain quota, with Aventurine's explanation being that the servers are designed for North American and European players.
You can view the full announcement here for additional details and instructions on how to get started.
[Thanks Ludipe for the tip!]

Too little too late, should of been this way since the beginning - Not charging people $1 for a trial.
Anyway. Cool.
Especially in this MMO dry season.

While I agree somewhat, they just recently added in the anti hack protection, so the 1 dollar was needed, not anymore.
Hackers are for the most part non existant or getting banned within a week or a few days(known from a cheater forums).
Even though I think AV is retarded sometimes, the 1 dollar was a right call.
I had to resub, every other mmo is just so slow and boring, went back to eve, and just /wrists my self in boredom, FPS combat WITH FULL LOOT FTW.
I think people dont like darkfall because it takes forever to grind and you will get wtfpwned by macro'ers that started at launch daily in 2-3 hits, and the fact that the combat is imbalanced, I mean a rank 90 Nuke is IMPOSSIBLE to miss and does double the damage of a archery shot almost, which is hard as fck to hit, specially if you have anything above 60-80 ping.
Once AV fixes these issues, and get server performance back to where it was( Yes they fcked up something a few months ago, or server is just dying and they have no money) then we might have a game.
This.
Problem is that the modern wave of "mmo" players who do nothing but quest and grind for gear endlessly simply can't imagine having their asses handed to them, and their gear looted.
They also can't stand the thought of not being treated like the "Special chosen one, savior of the universe" by a game.
The ironic thing is that these are exactly the people who would have the most to gain from learning Darkfall's lessons...IE: don't get attatched to your gear. Don't cry when you die. Take it all in stride and have a good time. There's no sense getting pissed because your pixels were lost....or because you got killed in a PVP game.
Darkfall sets you free, in a way, from the mentality fostered by other mmos these days. It takes some time to learn the lessons, but when you then play other games, you're not nearly as frustrated or gear-obsessed as you once were. You realise that having FUN is the most important part of the game, after all.
Now that the trial is actually FREE, and those without a CC or paypal account (the ones living under rocks, I guess) can give the game a try, maybe they can learn from Darkfall too.
well, this is the result of people whining, and the game being changed to appease them.
Originally, magic was supposed to be REALLY hard and expensive to level. Yes, it was meant to be overbalancingly powerful, but at the cost of getting there, would be worth the effort for those who dedicated themselves to the intentionally insane grind.
Mages were meant to be few, but powerful. On the most dedicated and wealthy would unlock the higher level spells.
But people pissed and moaned, and now everyone has high-end magic, and the gold to afford the regs.
Darkfall's original vision has been lost along the way, sadly.
ah well. i'll give this a try now.
so the last exe update was because of this
BestSigEver :P
Very true Whargoul, lets hope This so called next patch and expansion, and then DF 2010 Expansion, DO some serious revamping of current mechanics while not forgetting the term EXPANSION and adding in the needed sandbox content, and make the server performance better and combat balanced.
I mean, only reason I have moved on, is because well, Xsyon and MO look like failures atm, maybe in a year they might be something who knows.
Only thing on the horizon I am looking forward to is Earth rise and Planetside 2, but even planetside 2 wont hold me alone, it is a FPS afterall.
Dont even say Global Agenda, it is a 10 vs 10 deathmatch and they consider it a MMO?
That is like saying SW TOR will be more than a CO OP single player game with SUB fees lol.
Thats scarry, and more permissions to my machine than i would grant any app. I would not install anything that going to enforce this rule. Why do they even need to if the trial is by acount.

I loved the feeling when playing this game, but the game concept behind PvP is too harsh for my taste.
No, I didn't mind the 1 euro trial, I believe it stands as a valid concept.
However, the interface options were a huge pain. Hoping the game improved since then.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I just downloaded this game and made an account for the 14 day trial. After 2 hrs of gameplay I gave up.
This game is in same class as alot of FREE games. How they can sell this game and get people to pay for a subscription is insane :S
Graphics are crap, sound is better than the grapics, its choppy graphics. Long startup and loadingtimes.
Also a fun thing is...when I downloaded the client the page said I would have to download a SMALL patch before being able to play. The patch was 10 GB and the client is 7 GB :S
Well this game just ended up on my "not to play"-list. Give it about 4/10 score...
Might give it another try then, to see what has changed.
Played it in beta for a bit; didn't like the grinding, clunkyness and overall bland feel.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Nah, this isn't the result of people whining...its the result of people not playing.
At this point I'd like to congratulate all those who repeated 'Darkfall isn't for you' or 'Go back to WoW' on having their dreams come true...you now have the empty shell of a game that you wanted.
Ed Zitron is that you?
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Just a note to new players check out the Accelerated character development videos on youtube. There a must watch. ALSO DONT FORGET TO TURN OFF OBJECT CLIPPING AND POST PROCESS EFFECTS. The game will look 100 times better and you will triple your performance.
I'll give it a go. Anyone Know which server Aussies are supposed to be on? NA or Euro.
Thank in advance!
Awesome Game to beat the boredom blues at work

People who originally wanted DFO to succeed didnt care about quests or graphics, they cared about gameplay and freedom.
Atm, gameplay is lacking, freedom is not.
Freedom does not mean they shouldnt have a skill/stat cap or make prestige classes, this will sooth the grind a lot, and give you an option to change your preferred style.
ATM, if you dont have everything, you will get killed or evaded by someone who does. And when you have 20k of loot on you after 2-3 hours of farming, you will get upset
I word to that!
You seem to ignore the fact that giving people who spend a lot of time playing the game an distinct advantage is not a good thing. DAoC tried that and lost most of their playerbase. So while you might think it is a bad thing, it is exactly why most players quit. Your preference appears to enjoy playing the game with the elite few, except that is normally not enough to pay for an expensive game like this, unless of course you want your game fees to go through the roof,.
yay and tomorrow have the hole day to try out *.*
