Should I avoid Aion?

I just quit Aion and Ive played since beta.  The changes in 1.9 IMO prove that NCSoft West either has no idea what they are doing or they have no control.  2 good examples are the costumes and new supplements.  Costumes pre-1.9 were 100K, the new costumes in 1.9 are 12 million kinah.  Supplements are supposed to improve the chance to slot manastones but the cost of them is so high you might as well just buy more manastones and take your chances.  1.9 made very little improvement to the game and after 8 months of the game being out and them "listening" to the playerbase this is what they came out with.  Yes, avoid Aion like its a fire.

Rule of thumb, avoid anything published by NcSoft(at least in the US, in Korea they know how to run a business). Anything NCNA touches turns to shit.

Depends on what u expect from a game:

    • If u like to play the 2 fractions style (meaning attacking other- opposite fraction players without obvious reason and JUST because u enjoy killing others even while they are trying to do their quest and even they r 30 lvls lower than u)

    • If u like to lvl up in short time

    • If u like spending 3-6 hours in an instance

    • If u like an endgame where u can do 2 repeatable things: 1. Instances to collect items and 2. Sieges (fraction Vs fraction) (and 3. Walking around in order to find players of the opposite fraction and atck them)

Then this game is just for u but:

    • If u like something like guild Vs guild or having the chance to say no to a PK

    • If u like drama (a storyline in endgame and not same things every day/week)

    • If u like finishing instances fast and non being obliged to have a full group in order to finish an instance successfully

    • If u don’t like to spend millions of virtual money just to make a decent armour

Then this game is not for u

1.9 has increased the XP from quests substantially. Specially the repeatable quests for coins (before, it made you giggle). But the grind, even if barely shortened by this, is the same old mindless grind. They have added "energy of salvation". Which is let's you get bonus XP if you're too iddle while ingame. But I haven't seen it show up anytime.

Another cool feature are the Illusion equipment (usable for 14 days). Unfortunately they are too expensive, and cannot socket manastones/enchant which makes it subpar. You're better buying cheap white/green stuff out of the AH for the leveling.

Same for the conjunction of weapons, it's too expensive unless you consider your final endgame weapons. To junction a Green Book lvl 40 plus another white book of same level as secondary, it takes about 400.000 K. More expensive than the weapons themselves!

The "suplements" to increase the chances of enchanting are cool too. But, again, freaking expensive. And enchanting cap has increased from +10 to +15.

Only thing cheaper are the Soul Healer and transport bills, barely. The new "anti-stun" skill is also cool to counter the ganks.

They have added a LFG interface, but it's too basic and barely used.

That's all I can say about the 1.9 patch. A few improvements here and there, but nothing to make you resubscribe.

Aion's pretty good, I've played it since open beta, and don't have any problems with it, besides for NCsoft running it. I didn't really care that much if 1.9 came or not, but for all the promises they made about exp, loot increase, and soul healing costs lowered, the change has been so insignificant, I'm not even sure they changed anything. So far, since 1.9 launched, I have seen their new exp boost on my character once, for a little less then 30 minutes, it was completely useless, and that annoyed me that they didn't deliver what they promised their player base.

I guess I'm saying if your looking for something entertaining and can deal with NCsoft west, give it a try.

Levels 1-10 are fun, the intro pve is as expected, quick and entertaining.  Dont expect much of a deep lore or storyline however.

10-20  After your initial letdown of getting wings you will notice the game starts to get a bit grindy  It will start to seem somewhat useless to do the 1-10 quest spam and youll find repeatable quests (yawn) and grinding provide better returns.  All you really want to do is get to the abyss and some action.

20-30  Well youll findyourself choosing to hang out in the abyss or the pve maps.  This is a seperation i didnt like.  The abyss offers equipment points for mob kills/quests/pk's in the abyss.  The pve maps offer lame group quests or direct bot competition for solo grind mobs.  You will see locations that the bots have already called dibbs on, they will be there for a long time, and after they go (sold character or banned?) a new obvious bot replaces them.  I remember running past this level 20 bot and a day later he was still there and level 34.  I reported him as were lots of people who saw this.

Since the pve maps were boring, as going to and from the abyss was getting to be a pain in th ass i decided to stick with the meat and potatos of the game and do the abyss thing.

Got a reputiable guild, and grinded on abyss mobs and pvp.  The abyss "shards" are literally desolate rocks with a small playfeild on them, theres a few of them, most are useless jumping points.  What it amounts to is a very very large playfeild with very very little usable space.

Did some fort seiges, which involve killing a raid boss while fighting off the other faction.  Since any and everyone can join, prepare to lag like youve never lagged before in 16bit (yes 16bit) graphics mode.  You will crash if you have a good system (too much ram and 64-bit OS i think was at fault) you will crash if you have a normal or borderline system.  Once this happens you are seperated from your group, you might as well log off.

Things happen like you land on a shard, run halfway across it, rubberband effect pulls you to open space before you landed and you die falling.  Fort seiges were anything but fun, waaay too many people at once.

Once i learned that the rest of the game was laggy for seiges, one endgame raid boss (yeah really) and after seeing the 30+ abyss map (just as boring, just as huge with just as little play space)

Not sure how much its changed since then, but as someone who was already skeptical of korean mmorpgs, this game made me feel 100% like i got suckerd into paying full price for a f2p quality game.

This game definitly has its audience, however it turned out not to appeal to me at all, i just got sick of grinding mobs on the same 2 shards and occasionally going to the next shard to gank a few of the other side.

You make it sound like "if you wan't a game just like wow, this game is not for you" which is true..

But stop whining about the game being "too hard" and too requiring.. Think what wow had to offer when it came out, and think what it have now .. Things will change, just let Aion have a chance to fix the problems first..
