I agree. How dare someone expect to get what they paid for? Do you seriously expect your new car to just start right up and run after you buy it? I mean there is break in time and all that stuff before you actually get to DRIVE the stupid thing. /sarcasm off

You see, it is people like the fanboi above who are ruining the industry in general. With an attitude like that, more and more developers figure they can release some half assed beta game that takes 3 days to get into after launch, and fully expect people to pay money for it while they finish developing basic game mechanics. Call me crazy but when I buy a television, I expect it to work. Not plug it in and watch a blank screen for 3 days while I wait for a software update to fix it. It is NOT asking too much to buy a game and expect to play it the first day. Experience has taught me that this is usually not the case, but when idiots like yourself actually think it's fine and dandy then you are sending a message to future game developers that this is an accepted practice and it should NOT be accepted as the norm.

But it IS the norm.  You can find it unacceptable all you want, the fact remains this is what always happens when MMOs launch.  Getting righteously indignant accomplishes nothing.  Either accept facts or make your own game and launch it flawlessly to prove me wrong.

Keep calling us fanboys, but the fact is we just accept reality without losing our cool when things go - let's face it - exactly as everyone expected.

     It is NOT the norm!

World of Warcraft -  Eventho with long queues and server issues. I could still play the first day.

EverQuest 2 - I could play the first day.

Matrix Online -  I could play the first day.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes - I could play the first day.

Tabula Rasa - I could play the first day.

LOTRO -  flawless launch! Could play without a single issue the first day.

Age of Conan - I could play the first day.

Warhammer Online -  I could play the first day. (eventho some queue issues)

AION -  I could play the first day. (eventho long queues to get in).

Fallen Earth -  I could play the first day.

You want me to go on?  So give us a break!

Even Dark & Light and Darkfall did better than this. lol.

Everything is cool bro, because they don't like to update the whole community - only people who join their IRC channel. Seems the servers are still down but don't you worry friend you can play tomorrow. Supposedly they have a patch all ready so when they got done with it they said "ey fug it!" and went home. Incoming miracle patch amirite guyz?

"Word from IRC is that there is a patch ready but the people to implement it arnt there now and wont be til 7:30am est (my time)."

ahh some of those analogies made me laugh

but they sadly dont compare correctly to MMo gaming or indeed anything online.

A closer analogy would be -

You get tickets to a waterpark that has opened, you jump in your car adn get onto teh motorway to find out everyone in your state is going too

Now whos fault is it? the water parks for not making the roads bigger? the other peoples for going the same day?

    ANSWER - Its everyones faults....

You finally beat the traffic and get to the park, but the gates are closed. a sign is hanging up on the gate saying something, but you cant quite see it cos everyone else in the crowd is QQing and whining like lttle children.

Eventually a man comes out with a megaphone and shouts 'Sorry people, a small bug exists that is stopping the ride from working, but dont worry, those are month long tickets you have, let us sort this out and then come back'

You didnt hear him say that though cos everyone is QQing or yuou are just raging and missed the man talking

People paid their hard earned money for the game and SV backed it up saying "Hey guys you get a free month!". They force the free month at the first month when all of the server problems are happening and you think people don't have the right to complain?

Fanboyism plain and simple. Stop backing up bad business practices.

Their "launch" is actually a "beta" if you can call it that. Save your money for a worthwhile game!

Now, now Drel, it must be "launched" since the launcher screen no longer says beta on it. image

Just forget that it is running like it did 6 months ago when they tried to have 200 players on at once and it came to it's knees before wheezing and gasping a couple times before server death.

BTW does anyone know the specs on the server? It runs like it is a single machine in the offices of SV, and since they used to only reset it when someone was in the office I would bet so.

Even DF that I love so much (not) uses  2 clusters hosted by a company that does hosting for their business. They knew not to try to run their own server and all the attendant problems it would create.

From what I have seen on a packet sniffer, the poor server / Internet connection of SV's has a bad case of constipation. I have never seen so many NAK's flowing from a server or connection that was healthy.

I am speechless on MO in it's current state, I will not be playing this game, gave my account to a mmo legend and he promply returned it back to me, I would post his review but it would prob get me banned, sorry Starvault, this game needs months and months of work

this game is like looking at a train wreck for me. Its appauling, but you just cannot look away. I would be more happy with account to work up a report. although like you said I dont see the point. The fanboys actually had nerve at launch to state it was a flawless launch :P

    Well, its offical now. =P

The "its beta" excuse is now "it just laumched"- quit QQing, what did you expect a playable game- And the ever popular "this is a small indie team who cares about gaming" lol.

This "small indie team" charged more than a AAA title for an unworking pile of shit not worthy of even being called a beta- They wont communicate and work banker hours even with all the outrage.

You know , my father worked for a company called Mclouth Steel up in Michigan. When the company started falteing due to the influx of Chinese steel being pumped into the USA (Steel subsidised by the Chinese government) my Father (and the rest of the workers) first began working an hour daily for free and then a day a week for free on top of that- They did that because they cared about their jobs and their career....They did that because they wanted to HAVE a job.

Now heres these clowns using their dads money, taking investors money and selling a product that is unfinished and apparently still only will work bankers hours as their "dream" is crumbling around them- I guess when its OTHER PEOPLES MONEY and you can QQ to daddy to pay your rent once the buisness fails- Its no big deal.

SV deserves to fail. they are the most unprofessional, fly by night jokers I have ever seen.

And cant even communicate on a forum.

    ....Yeah, they are "hardcore" lol.

I can attest to the fact that SV is working VERY hard on MO. And even that is probably an understatement. I have a close friend that works for SV and he basicly lives in the office.

Tell him to be careful, there's a couple e-thugs around here that are are really chomping at the bit to charge that office.  They won't of course, but maybe one of em will spam your buddy's inbox and call that a victory.

All I know is that for too long of time i've put up with polished games that give everything to you, where having max level, gear and skills makes you average, those that force you to go in linear directions. Could go on for paragraphs about carbon copy, make it easy for the masses games, that are made by people who have enough cash to make a game truely amazing, but dont for a fat check.

We have a small company who is trying to make a game for those who want more challenge for a smaller niche of people. They are not going have the muscle or vast resources to make a seamless launch, or have all intended ideas active in the game, but they had the nutz to challenge bold ideas. Ill wade through lagginess and patches in search for a game with true adventure, real fear, real losses and if your lucky, real accomplishment if you make it. If you dont like it, can always go back to the nice shiny hamster wheel. It will still be there.

I just wish I was never dumb enough to pay 70euros for a game that wasn't even released yet. I mean why didn't alarm bells start ringing when they were asking for cash upfront for a preorder?? It's my own dumb fault to fall for their stupid presentation of lies and their "actual in game footage" video of the two guys in the cave with the dragon(where is any part of that video in game by the way???).

The dissappointment of the box with a useless cd and nothing else for my money and now also the fact that they decided to begin the trial period from launch and also enable the auto subscription option on my account makes the whole thing feel like a big scam. I will know better in future...

Sorry have to throw the BS flag on this one.

Socialistic Swedish labor laws would cause the company to be shut down if any employee worked those type of hours. In fact SV told us back in beta that the reason they couldn't keep the server up 24/7 was because the law prevented them from working more then 8 hours/day or 40/week.

BTW what is your friends name that works there all those hours? Would love to go to SV's site and read his resume before the Swedish authorities shut them down when they find out about the working hours.

So nice try but sorry this is total crap just like the game is.

EDIT: You know may be he does live in the office, they hads devs complaining 6 months ago about the slave wages they were being paid, maybe your friend can't afford to live anywhere else image

I said "basicly lives in the office". And the law is if the company forces him to work overtime. He is there because he loves his job and wants MO to be successful. In the start their wages where very bad, but they have been adjusted over time. I'm not going to name him here. You can think what you will about this, but I am not lying. I have nothing to gain by lying. I don't even play MO. It's a sandbox game and I really don't like sandbox MMOs.

I don't see the need to try and offend me by implying that my friend is poor for working on MO. You may hate the game for whatever reason, but there is no need for personal attacks like that.

The fact is, the server was NOT down for 6 hours, not even close. Really, a mod shoulda renamed that thread, it was a straight-up fabrication..   The server's have been relatively stable for the past two days ( several hours of continuous uptime, reboots within minutes).  Better than, or at least equal to, some AAA MMO's I've played (See EVE after every expansion).  SV has released 5 patches in a week, They've been working overtime for AT LEAST a week, AND they have someone manning the server at all times.

On what grounds do you base your sense of entitlement?  Don't say it's because you paid them money;  no customer has the right to say what you're saying, to demand what you're demanding.   I honestly don't understand how anyone can be employed for any amount of time and still have this sense of "I give them money, they belong to me!"

The server's up and stable, the game is playable (and fun I might add, if that matters to anyone).    Where does this venom come from?  Why the thirst for blood?

Actually.. if you read the developer's post he says that they have "outside folks" manning the server, except for the times they have to go to bed.

It's up to each customer to decide if they are satisfied with the level of service they received.  If they are happy, they will subscribe.  If they are not happy.. they won't.  These things have a way of working themselves out.

Who cares if it's not SV's people?  I don't care if they have oompa loompas in the server room as long as the server comes back up as quickly as it has been.

You keep repeating this line. What are you trying to convey; I think I'm missing the significance of this somewhat obvious description. Am I to assume it's a thinly veiled "MO is dying" jab?

Now heres these clowns using their dads money, taking investors money and selling a product that is unfinished and apparently still only will work bankers hours as their "dream" is crumbling around them- I guess when its OTHER PEOPLES MONEY and you can QQ to daddy to pay your rent once the buisness fails- Its no big deal.

SV deserves to fail. they are the most unprofessional, fly by night jokers I have ever seen.

And cant even communicate on a forum.

    ....Yeah, they are "hardcore" lol.

TJ, You just hit the nail square on the head!  I am glad to see that I am not the only one that feels this way.  GOOD JOB!

    They sold us a half-baked Fail-sauced pizza.

Actually.. if you read the developer's post he says that they have "outside folks" manning the server, except for the times they have to go to bed.

     1) No.. the point wasn't WHO is doing it, but that according to the post... there are times that even the "outside folks" go to bed.  This contradicts your statement that they have the server manned at all times.  Now.. what really matters is server uptime.  If their reboot script works and they keep the server up most of the weekend no one really will care.  If the server goes BOOM at 3AM server time (7-10PM US time) tonight.. people will care.

    2) You know what they say about assuming.. ie.. don't.  The point is that each person has their own subjective opinion on things.  I love 1st person... I hate 1st person, X number of crashes is acceptable... X number of crashes is ridiculous, SV should take off the weekend after launch because they earned it... WTF SV is taking off the weekend 3 days after launching while I can't get my game to run!?

Both sides are valid to a point as both sides represent each individual's (subjective) feelings and experiences.  What matters is if the aggregate of these experiences is good enough for a number of people to continue subscribing which is high enough to support the game.  Only time will tell that answer.  Until then.. it's mostly circular arguments.
