I don't think there is a tank, at least not in the traditional trinity concept type tanking. I imagine it will follow similar lines that Guild Wars had.
Mesmer - This is core Guild Wars and they have just buffed the hell out of them in GW1. They are here to stay
Necromancer - Merged with unreleased Utopia Summoner class. Necro once again is core Guild Wars. Its a definate in my book
Adventurer Classes
Ranger - Core. Its everything Guild Wars. We will see a heavy lean toward nature rituals here too. maybe evn some druid type featuress
Assassin - Reborn as a gunslinger / sharpshooter firearms class.
Chronomancer - Unreleased Guild Wars Utopia class. No way they would have trashed it. I think it will be reborn in GW2
Soldier Class
Warrior - Confirmed. Partial merge with assasins (Combo chains and dual weapons) and Paragons party buffs
Paragon / Cleric - Basically a Paladin melee type holy warrior. Aspects of Paragon / Smite Monk / Dervish. I don't think these 3 classes are coming back
I mean we might have the beast mastery / trapping/ controlling the spirits style ranger from GW1 but from what they said about the warrior (and their ability to use bows, and to use bow 'traits' -> suggesting they're actually suited to using a bow) that perhaps this 'ranger' character will be not so much suited to using a weapon but can use all the melee weapons, and focuses more on the traps etc, or maybe the 'ranger' will be mixed in with an assasin (I always thought traps were more suited to an assassin than a ranger)

I think the necromancer will be more of a Minion master
I also dont see them putting in the chronomancer. The Witch Hunter type class is more feasible due to concept art
The Witch Hunter type class is more feasible due to concept art
I sure hope so. It seems like a lot of people are jumping on the "Witch Hunter" bandwagon. For originality though, I'm going to just call it the Stalker.
All signs point to no main healing class. Some classes will be better at healing and condition removing, but as for a profession based soley on healing...I think ANet is trying to get away from that stigma.

"...for example the Chronomancer will not be making an appearance in Guild Wars 2. " - Eric Flanuum. So no chronomancer. And when I said rifleman I pretty much meant a guy with two guns/a rifle since that's about all there is about him.

Although they haven't said it outright it's pretty much confirmed that there won't be a monk. Read here for more about it.
On the picture I also agree that what I labeled as assassin could very well be a ranger kneeling down as if to track something. I'm guessing it's a sylvari due to what I assume is the hairstyle that looks very sylvari-ish. The mesmer is - as needalife214 said - indeed a norn. The asuras are just too damn small to make anything of, they could be just about anything. And the incomprehensible thing is... well it's a few black lines, I'm hoping it's the new baby profession and that it's a baby charr. Very cute : >
GW2 is essentially a continuation of Guild Wars: Phropechies, so why would it have Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall professions? I don't believe it will have assassin, ritualists, paragons or dervish. Daggers in GW2 have been given to Elementalist. There are no spears or scythes. Eliminating those four professions takes us to the six core professions and leaves room for two new ones.
Actually I think tanks will be different than what people are used to. I think they are trying to make a pvp tank. which means lots of snares, stuns, general CC, debuffs. Tanks will be so annoying to deal with you will want to attack them. You can get hints of this with their 2 handed mace which is knock-back, and their 1 hand mace which have more stuns. no one has really nailed the pvp tank yet, usually just giving them more damage. PvP has become so boring because it is already about damage, more depth needs to be added to MMO pvp. If guilds wars has smarter AI I think their will be no need for the typical threat system. which to be honest is a pretty outdated system that is in a desperate need to be updated.
I highly doubt the monk will be excluded. That said, I bet you that, if it is, it's going to be refocused more into like what the dervish is, with a healing option for those who want it.
Think about it. The monk dance is a martial arts thing. Highly spiritual class. The dervish? Highly spiritual class focused on enchantments/etc. They could easily combine the 2 classes to get rid of some awkward features from the dervish, and give the monk something to do other than "and I heal, and I heal". The class is too iconic to the game to outright ignore the primary style.
That said, as for the mesmer, though I expect the mesmer to come in in some form, I highly hope the mesmer is reworked from an art standpoint. The class is just...awkward. "And I charm this guy into thinking he has a burden he doesn't have."....really?
The class itself can be considered popular mainly because of how high its damage is (or was, last I checked a while back) in hard mode, and how effective it is at locking down people, but I always found the class unfocused, too versatile for its own good, and overall just a walking oxymoron.
At the very least, I think the mesmer will see a rework, but its style (lockdown/debuffer) is likely to be brought back.

Monks haven't been confirmed to not be in the game, but if you read here there's pretty much stuff pointing to it. Additionally monks would not serve the same role in GW2 as in the first one. In GW1 you needed a healer because of the team focused gameplay, in GW2 however there will be more emphasis on soloing and only healing yourself. I'm interested in seeing how exactly this will work out and if we will see midline and frontline only. Regardless I believe the templar class will take the condition and hex removal part of the monk and another class taking the preprotting role of the monk (if they skip that it would be to skip one of the best things in PvP ever).

I believe they'll do what they simply did in GW1 and just put a little extra armor on the frontline which made you skip attacking them, and then that's it. The frontliners role is instead as main damage dealer (I heard somewhere that a warrior autoattacking outdamages a elementalist spamming spells) or annoyment through knockdowns. Either way the main source of damage came from the frontline, and I believe we can see a continuation of that.

How could you even come to such a ridiculous conclusion? They will still have the arena style team based PvP just like in GW1, and they will also have the open pvp in places like the Mists, which will be WvW, requiring teamwork to fight over resources and stuff. Then in PvE weve got the Dynamic Events in the open world, which will require people working together in many cases. The only portion of the game that seems to focus at all on soloability is the Personal Story instances. All they are doing is removing the concept of having a focused healer class that does nothing but spam heals to keep peoples HP bars full, and instead focusing more on protection/support & strategy and preventing harm from happening in the first place.
I don't care what the other professions will be. The elementalist is already in, and that's the only profession I will play with. (Played GW1 4years with elementalists only... ^^)
Too bad dervish wonbt make it to GW2 since its lore....but maybe some improved version of it or whatever would be nice...I really loved the concept of that class
even if it would be the crazy xmas tree:D
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

From the artbook The big guy on classes pic might be him
For my opinion the warrior isent a tank its actualy a kind of dpser and the tank on the game is kinda a knight or something like that
.

There is a pic of the norn dude with tatoos in The Art Of Guild Wars 2, so im pritty convinced that there will be monk in gw2.
Sry for my bad english.
I know where you are getting your logic, but ANet has stated that we will be able to have tattoos in our character creation.
No pure healer or tank..i think most classes will have options for almsot everything.

I know right. Possibly the best thing that ever happened
(Whether or not there's a monk is not confirmed though... but there are lots of info that point towards it)
No more, "I have a monk, so our team is pro", or "You only won cause you have a monk team". They constantly happen in GW.
But in GW2 it's about skill. The monk doesn't determine the fight... You do.

I'm probably one of those people who just get wet.

My prediction of the classes:
1. Elementalist (already released)
2. Warrior (relesed)
3. Ranger (even though warrior can use bows, concept art clearly shows the ranger class!)
4. Assassin (same thing as the ranger, there's many concept art showing an asassin crouching with 2 daggers ready to kill)
5. Necromancer
6. Some kind of mesmer-like class
7. Some new classes we have never seen before

*Edit* pretty sure its just a fucking tree though.

Somebody at Anet likes mesmers. I don't think they'd approve mesmer skills in the original game then drop mesmer from the new game.
The next profession to be announced will most likely be ranger. i think that whatever new professions they add will be announced last.
Well Mesmer is the iconic class of Guild Wars. The most unique class I've seen in a game. It pretty much has to be in GW2.
Too bad dervish wonbt make it to GW2 since its lore....but maybe some improved version of it or whatever would be nice...I really loved the concept of that class
