They have a bit of new info in the article and the vid. It seems that there will be some kind of space exploration since you can build a ship. There will be other races. And the video says that they will have some instance based areas which is where you can bring other players in to do story stuff. Also PvP seems like it will play some role. Nothing new yet, but at least we can see a bit more about how the game is going to play.
Let's hope its actual facts about gameplay elements that we have yet to see (e.g. crafting), perhaps even a vid of it.
I appreciate the work that went into the nice spangly and completely pointless FMV marketing movies, but they don't actually show anything about the game.
On the subject of the ships, being able to build a ship is one thing, but we haven't been told WHAT you can do with it. I REALLY hope that they aren't going to be cheap and just have the ships for specific situations in the storyline. This is one area where Bioware can put SWG to shame by allowing players to actually pilot their ships to anywhere the player wishes and at any time, and plus be able to walk around inside them during the flight if they so wish.
Every player, regardless of their chosen class, will get their own starship to command across the galaxy. Always dreamed of flying a Corellian vessel? Choose the Vanguard class when playing. Or maybe you've had some sort of sick dream where you gangster walk through the galaxy aboard an Imperial transport (if so, choose the Sith Fury class).
Of course, it would be pretty boring to have an entire galaxy packed with a handful of similar ships. To combat this, BioWare has created a robust customization package so that you can fully trick out your ship with premade gear sets or your own hand-picked items. Though BioWare isn't showing off the ships in action just yet, they assure us that there will be thousands of different variations so that each person can feel as if they have a unique vessel.
That same level of customization is also given to your character in the form of various PvP gear. Though you start out pretty basic in terms of gear, by completing PvP challenges (which BioWare isn't discussing yet), you earn new goods. Some of this stuff is cosmetic, some is highly functional and all of it seems to change based on class and race. In the example BioWare showed off, one bad ass ended up with a jetpack and devilish armor that made him look like Boba Fett spawned from Hell. In other words, you can build up your character to look more awesome than anything the Star Wars universe has seen before.
BioWare continues to insist that Old Republic can be played as a single-player game if you are the type who likes buying Massively Multiplayer games for the express purpose of not playing them correctly. However, the PvP rewards system is meant as encouragement for engaging with other players as often as possible. There will be other ways to earn gear, but it sounds like the quickest way to maximizing your get-up is by teaming up with other players (or shooting them in the face).

However, that quote doesn't address the possibility that the ships will be nothing more than scenes for the progressing storylines, rather than being vehicles that the player can use even when not progressing through the storyline.
In other words, I'm hoping that Bioware don't just implement the ships like they did in KOTOR, but allow the ships to be like the ones in SWG: Available to use for real-time flight at any time.
Thanks Alex for copying and pasting what was in the link provided by Smathews, but that doesn't address the possibility that the ships will be nothing more than scenarios for the developing storylines, rather than being vehicles that the player can use even when not progressing through the storyline.

If they were only for Story , I doubt that they would have invested so much time into making sure you can customize your Ship in so many ways , if you are the only one to see it.
Wow... I mean... I admit I was a fanboi alreary, heh. But they have starships and space! Wow, that really blew me out of my chair! I didnt see that coming. If that doesnt silence the doubters, nothing else ever will.
Where can I buy? ^^
EDIT: Ok we dont know about space combat, but do you really think they make such a complex ship design and never add space? Thats just quite unlikely.

Why did KOTOR allow customisation of items considering the player was the only one to see them? Remember that Bioware are placing a lot of emphasis on what the player views, not necessarily how other players view them.
I do appreciate your logic though, and I truely hope you are right. But these days I've learned to not make assumptions or jump to too many conclusions about new MMO's without hearing it directly from the devs.

I do understand what you are saying but KOTOR was a single player Game and this is an MMO. :P
I guess we will find out in less then 2 hours what is what.

To use an example:
Lets imagine a "cut scene" that plays whenever your ship takes off, which no one else sees but you (the player).
Now, this customisation of ships that Bioware have mentioned may do nothing but alter the colours shown on that "cut scene". Therefore, rendering the customisation option pretty pointless in the first place.
But, you are right. I guess we MAY find out more soon.

KOTOR didn't have much customization what-so-ever you better go replay the game bud. They are talking rewards that better your ship, thus for using in PVP. I think you need a dose of common sense. Logic is logical.
I will once again say that there will be full space implementation, Bioware doesn't want to look like retards from cryptic making a space mmo, without the stars. phhssseeehh!

Either way this does confirm one thing .... Player Housing in the form of Ships.
Eww thats a pretty big assumption to make. I wouldn't be too sure about that if I was you. Like I said, the ships could be nothing more than scenes in which to progress the storyline in.
Cut scenes showing your particular ship design with its chosen "go faster stripes" on it. KOTOR style story progression scenes that take place in your ship. If that's all the ships are, then Bioware are going to upset a few people.

Sounds to me like you can see other people's ship
Bioware just dropped their pants and took a huge deuce on a large majority of the nay sayers around these forums.

I'm not a naysayer myself because quite frankly I'm hoping that Bioware DOES recreate the very essence of the KOTOR games and maybe steal some ideas from SWG.
I suppose you could call me a cynic or a realist. I'll believe it when I see it, because I've been burnt too many times to mention by "keeping the faith". I certainly hope it does well, but I'm not going to expect miracles from Bioware.

I wasn't meaning to call you out was just talking in general that there has been a LOT of negativity toward this game because of lack of information, and Bioware is starting to dish out some of the hot stuff.
It even said in the article that you can play this game like a singleplayer game, but there are more benefits to grouping with or against others (just like ever MMO ever?)
I'm excited for this to come now, have been leaning a bit with Bioware from the start. Can't wait to give it a go in betas.

I'm with you on that one. I'm hoping that ToR will be the best a Star Wars MMO can be, but I'll wait until I hear the devs or other Bioware representatives explain what will be in the game, and how.
Enthusiasm is one thing, blindly following the hype no matter for what game or company a whole other thing.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
More so that it was the only game without shown demo footage though they have it as the guests at E3 have been invited to play it. I wonder why another trailer was shown and not the game. It reminds me of the old Rebel Assult Games that used footage from the films to sell the game.
Can't wait for this info. It is going to be hillarious to see what the haters come up with. Two in particular.......
I dunno about haters, I do know that a lot of us are still skeptical about the MMO part of this game. When BioWare releases more info on the MMO part and can answer the stinging questions that many MMO players have asked over recent months - maybe then those of us that have sided on non-hype train will be more open to calling the game an MMO instead of a single-player co-op game.
