The ninja billing that does happen will have consqeuences.
Do you guys know what happens when a bunch of people reverse charges on a vendor for unauthorized charges? The vendor won't be able to process *any* payments any more. It is plain and simple a cash grab, and if SV isn't stupid enough to realize that they are going to shut down their own business or at least, severely impact it by doing this -- they really don't care about the long term of the game and just want whatever money they can get before it goes bust.
All true, except you dont know that they will do it or plan to do it. In light of the effect of "freindly fraud" on the ability to do business, what is your opinion of someone who has closely followed the development of the game, then orders the game with the express intent of doing a chargeback.
Two wrongs don't make a right. One guy trying to get his money back is a different ballgame than a company trying to steal money from unknowning customers.
That they add more Storage NPC's, at bank, because it's crazy, can't almost get to the bank because of all people standing in the way. Otherwise it great fun and interesting how MO develops and the trading between players have already started.
its pretty obvious the "no"s are coming from people who are not playing the game. It rocks even with the crap ass bugs and server problems. These should be solved soon. Why so optimistic? I stuck with DF for the first 6 months and had a blast. It hasd a very rough start too. Probably worse than this. Come to think of it. EQII had a tough launch too, but I played that for over a year.
Too early to really tell yet for MO. I can say, just mining and skilling up fighting and extracting, Im having a lot of fun.

True. Especially needed before they put stealing back in. You need to be able to move freely (or swing a sword without hitting bystanders) to deal with thieves effectively.

Dude, playing MO at this point is simply taking a few steps backwards. Why would you do that? Are you THAT bored?
DF seems way better than this. Sure, they'll get better at it, but not at my expense.

It goes back to the idea that folks keep reinforcing, that we should give SV our money as charity so they make a better game. It's ridiculous.

I've played DF, I've played MO; I haven't touched DF since logging into MO for the first time. It's not because of 'SVs potential" or "charity" as herc keeps trying to spin it; MO, at this stage, is a better game than DF. Perhaps not a less buggy game, but a hell of a lot more fun.

I have no doubt that you love the game. The real question of importance is how many other people love it enough to resubscribe to the game in a few weeks. There is obviously no way to know that answer yet, but time will tell. If enough people like it and resub then the game will live. If not, then it will die. This is the nature of the market. We will know in a few months.. and probably have a hint come July 9th.

Yep the ball is in the hands of SV to make this game long term engaging. Another true point only time will tell us

"Fun" is a relative term. Some people actually like DF over MO, and vice versa. I don't like either honestly, but DF provides more depth to the game because the systems are more wholly fleshed out and there are a lot more mechanics to support the population and the gameplay. They are different games though, and will appeal to different people for different reasons. MO's combat may be a little better, but they are both worse than Age of Chivalry. DF has warfare and seiging that MO won't have for a *long* time.
Like I said... let a person check the game out on the forums, read people's opinions, watch IRC and the "boom" statements that happen every few hours when the server goes down, endless bugs, and see if it's worth it to them to play at this point.
You've brought up the lack of sieges in 2 threads, so I'll skip quoting you to make thepost appropo to both threads. The current absence of sieges is by design. In developing the game they are trying to build the mechanics around the individual and add systems on for guild warfare and sieges later. What this ultimately means for sieges remains to be seen. Darkfall took the opposite approach and focused on making sieges central to the game. As a result, one of the more common comments about starting Darkfall is "you have to find a good guild". In Darkfall, if you don't belong to a guild, you are likely to get steamrolled by other players. As a result the game can be a lot of fun as part of a guild or alliance, but offers very little for the individual or small group.
As you say, It's all about priorities. We'd have sieges in from the beginning if only we'd had the time to make them good. However we don't, and we have to choose. And for me, the most important thing is to get player-to-player combat working, may it be melee, ranged or battle magic. If that isn't working, the game will be flawed from scratch, and the sieging and territorial issues will be an artificial meta game (although maybe even good) between top-hierarchy players - although the "grassroots" would quit.
I'm sure you as well as I want a game that is actually played and developed from down-up, instead of top-down. At least I hope so. Maybe you don't see youself in the boots of the barbarian with the double-axe, but if he's not there making your battles come to life, why not play Travian or World in Conflict instead? I'm not saying that to be sarcastic, I just want to make sure you know that MO is developed in this way, and that we have chosen large-scale (in-game supported) politics and sieges to be an extension of the man-to-man, guild-to-guild and eventually province-to-province wars. Our promise, or obligation, is to make it transparent as the game grows, as it is a prioritized feature of the game.
I will add my layman's opinion of the MO -v- DF debate. I am by no means an expert of either, but I have played both enough to be able to have formed an opinion respectively. But I must say upfront that I have not purchased MO since the release since I feel that it is not worth purchasing... yet.

This view (and scores) is soley based on game mechanics and flavor. It has nothing to do with client stability, or bugs.
My opinion.
Ok, that is your opinion. I can just say that I often see people on the MO forum that are very disappointed about DF but enjoy MO lots due to it's combat and greatly designed feats. MO have a more realistic melee with hit boxes. MO is the most entertaining MMO I have played since I played EQ1 several years ago.
This was posted by my guild leader...Sorry Starvault but the game is a total mess
yeah so i wont be playing this game past the free month.
now that the refinement bug has been fixed i am getting hit for mid 40s through plate by gimps with steel weapons and 30 ping. no crowd controls of any kind and shitty ping on my end means there is no avoiding their 4 shot kill ability.
more issues........
1> crashing every 20 to 40 minutes
2> bugs bugs and more bugs, i have had 5 suits of armor i have looted and placed in my bank vanish without a trace, have had stacks of money and sellables turn into question marks worth nothing. i get stuck on rocks, trees, in the water in doors. my horses randomly and without reason die.
3> basic horrible game design. book system, statloss, terrible combat mechanics. empty shell of a game with most of the shit not implemented and nothing to do and so on.

Well Drrrr lol, of course you will find more people interested in MO than DFO on the MO forums. I often see people on the DF forums that are very disappointed about MO but enjoy DFO lots due to it's combat and clan vs. clan focus as well as the faster combat system.
I personally am not playing either. If I had to choose one or the other it would definitely be DFO still.
But to be completely honest I prefer AoC (Age of Chivalry) and Mount and Blade Warband to either currently lol.

DF = fast paced, fps rpg grinder. 8.5 / 10
MO = slow, meticuous, Morrowind Elder Scrolls~ish rpg. 6.5 / 10

I'm not having fun with MO, the combat just seems very wrong to me... too slow, feels like I'm trying to swing a tree trunk.
Don't swing with the pickaxe, gets faster as your skills go up.
