New to FF. Can it really be as amazing as it seems? I hope so

I have played quite a few MMO's and almost all of them have failed to live up to their promises. FFXVI seems to be different.

Has Square Enix lived up to its promises in the past?

Is the pve comparable to any other game?

Is crafting a large part of their games?

How is the ingame economy?

I know there is an NDA so people can't discuss beta experiences. I'm looking more for past experiences so that I can either continue to follow the game and remain excited for release or come to the realization that this game will be no different than the others.

They don't promise anything. As you might have noticed, the don't release as much info as western developers do. This is because they do things differently- for example, the combat system (which is the most important gameplay aspect of MMO imo) was quite a bit different in the Alpha version than it will be in the Beta version.. so what's the point of hyping up the alpha combat if it's going to see changes anyway?

Once they gave us a timetable for an expansions content release pace, but it didn't work out because their guesses were wrong as to how long it would take to develop everything. Thus they have been tight lipped about these things, which is good because we don't get empty promises but also bad because we don't really get any info before these things are implemented- they can make changes to the features only days before implementation, after all. They do talk about their concepts once in a while though, but they're not promises- they're simply "considering implementing X" which may or many not see the daylight- no promises, because they can't make any.

If you think that's a good or bad thing, up to you.

Up to debate. It is not twitch based, it is more tactical, which definitely turns some people off. Depends what you like. I like it as much as any other MMO's combat- if anything else, it's different. Take that as a good or bad thing.

    This game? Yes, very.

Don't know about XIV. In XI there are no RMT but getting money is hard. This has been changed in XIV though, it's not nearly as difficult anymore.

It will be different, but if thats a good or bad thing depends on you. Some features may be more important to you than others (for example there's no jumping function, but you can change your classes freely without having to resort to alts, and can mix and match skills from every class).

I'd say keep an eye out on this one, and have an open mind about these things. Also remember, there are haters to every game. I tried to give my honest opinion there, but some people will troll you by dissing the game and some will turn on the fanboy mode. Don't let them judge the game for you.

well buddy. u might find comfort knowing we're all pretty much in the same boat. the FF series have been know to undergo re-invention from one title to the next. each of us r holding our breathe hoping that this one will be another awesome installment. SquareEnix just recently revamped the combat system from the alpha testing which goes to show that its still anyones guess what the game will turn out to be. its still too early to tell, but hopefully it will be a new experience for all of us. i do like some FF titles more than others but one things for sure, they put at lot into these game. since it'll be a different installment im hoping they can capture me again. we're all gonna have to keep an open mind for this one. a lot of us r bringing some high expectations and preconceptions from other games (including other FF titles). i know there will be new players and diehards that love ffxi who won't give ffxiv the light of day for its differences. just like u we all should keep an open mind and give it a chance on launch. i think we're all waiting to see if it'll be amazing.

... p.s. FFxi is not the game it started out to be. i actually left that game for 2 years and resubscribed just to revisit it. with all the updates and patches the game felt significantly different. SE had tackled a lot of issues that plague many mmo's from RMT, botting, level sync, the endless running, and other mini game types like besiege or choco raising/racing. the game has shown a clear evolution and they implemented some very good solutions. not much can be said about a yet-to-be-release game, but SquareEnix (IMO) has been very good in the past.

At the very least, S-E can be trusted not to try and pull a quick cash-grab - their brand identity is far too valuable to waste like that.

I don't remember them really making promises or set deadlines for them to break in the first place.

I would prolly relate it to FFXI, which follows the EQ method - group hunts. ~but this may be way different than the last, based on how many XP laden quests there are, and how guildleves work out in the end.

It was in the last one, and while a hardcore endeavor, it really pays out in the end. Fishing was just plain awesome in FFXI too.

Can't tell up front, but in my run with FFXI there were a lot of bot-miners that would flood the AH with darksteel and it killed the asking price. Used to get about 60k a piece, and I remember it going as low as 14k one day. Darksteel used to be the preferred way to get "walking around money" early on, and it still was pretty much after hardcore price fluctuations as well, just not as effective.

depends what you find amazing really, if you want fast combat this game would be a waste of time.but that you d see just by the new video from E3 with their clip of faster combat for the beta build.

so far combat have not been the main part about FFXIV to me, but there is alot of good things ....afew bad things that they should do something about.....atm havin a good time over all. tho alot of ppl on forums want the good things changed :

either way...for once an adventure game *cheers*    NOT an action game at all....now if they would just add jumping ;)

edit: hm for poster above said they would be disappointed if the game didnt get out this year...but that is as close to a promise you get from them, and sure they made soloing possible..

SE doesn't bend over that easily... I hear the threads are mostly about cheesecake which sounds alarming.
