News that my lvl1454524152 Human Jedi Mage, won't be able to party with that prety lvl245524 twilek rogue because twileks are sith-only class and we won't be able to go raid Tombs of The Doooooooom instance to complete that quest that requires to kill Sith Lord Evilius THe Unspeakeable and 35 rats? :<
You know, maybe you should check for another game... or realy hope there'll be a COOP server. Because... you know, when they say that there'll be 2 side in the game, good and bad, dont expect to be able to team with the other side to complete a quest in a dungeon with a sith boss that should be with those on the bad side.
LOTRO maybe would fit for you... EQ ? Wait.. the fabulous boring instance game that is guild war would be perfect for the like you ! lol
I don't have a problem with it, in fact I think its a good thing, olther mmo's do it like lotro an AOC just to name a couple off the top of my head.. I think its good if for nothing else we will see a mix of races and different weapons and not just a bunch of clones walking around, maybe it will help to curve the FOTM, syndrone so many games have.. who knows /shrug
Almost every game out there has species locks. Lotro, eq2, wow, eq1, eve. So I dont see why eerybody is going wow that is bad. Almost all the current games do that right now.
The reason is simple some species does that that others cant.
This does not bother me in the least, that should make you do a little research on what species does what best and make your best choice. It might kkeep me from playing a rhodian but oh well.
EQ2 and SWG, the games I played the most had not class restrictions. In EQ2 you could make a betrayal quest and swap to the other side, an idea I liked a lot.
Why should not a Chiss make a betrayal quest and join the Republic? When STORY DECISIONS matter, why not include changing sides or professions? I can work something until I am 35 and then learn a new job, just as well. It's tough, but not unrealistic.
Any lifeform has midichlorians, and with Lowbacca we know even Wookiees can be Jedi. Heck, I recall even a Hutt was a Jedi once.
Awesome, so glad Twi'lek is a race in the game. Now I am dying to make a Sith Twi'lek, ala Darth Talon. Can't wait for this game. Just hope the game play and stories flow well.
Glad they are doing this SWG was spoiled by the fact you had Wookies runing about as pajama wearing jedi.
The Star Wars universe is huge and rich with background lore. During the game era not even half the galaxy has been explored Qui-Gon said as much in Phantom Menace. So think on expansions that could come out of this game and the possibilities. Not its limits.
The only way you can get away with races not being restricted to certain classes if you make each race so bland that they might as well be the same. Otherwise people will cherry pick the best race to go with the best class.
I'd rather the races play VERY different from each other so that at least there is some replayability built into the game.
Similarly, if classes are VERY different (like EQ) then we have more replayability. And if there are real differences to good/evil (including not being able to group) then we might actually have a winner.
I dont know what you all are crying about. What I want to see is a true star warsy feel of the game. SWG didnt deleiver that. It is better known as EQ in space with a glow bat! They did a very good job of that in kotor 1 and 2, although 1's plot was better. As long as they stick to the books and what is star wars which is the limitations of species and races, then this is going to be awesome. If they stray from it, then it wouldnt be Star Wars, it would be something else. I hope Bio doesnt listen to the idiots wanting to create their own version of Star Wars that makes absoulutely no sense. People I've seen complaining has the WOW syndrome. Endless useless raids that make no difference to the world they play in or to the character itself. These type people are brain dead! What swg did achieve more than any game is a true economy based game. I havent read anything for crafting, or anything else. If they dont deliver that then this is only going to be half a game. And unlike swg, I hope smugglers actually have to smuggle instead of being beefed up unbalanced member or useless member of the game. Get a grip peeps!!!!
What would be preventing a Jawa to pick up a blaster and shoot somone? Why would one race not be allowed to be a smuggler? Arent smugglers bad? Why are they suddenly good just because 1 smuggler character from Star Wars was good doesnt mean they all are. I can see some rectrictions like droids not being force sensative but other then that its like saying Americans cannot learn martial arts only Asians can. Like I said this game is going to blow ass. It may get some high numbers at first but once everyone realizes they are playing a combo of STO and WAR or WoW with a little Pirates of the Caribbean thrown in, they will quit.
"I'm sorry but your mmo has been diagnosed with EA and only has X number of days to live."
Class resistrictions are there for a reason. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it a bad title. Don't like it, don't play it then. Bunch of whinning, spoiled tweens. Just because you cannot make that one shot wonder, PVP war machine with the auto kill button you cry endlessly. Every MMO I've been in has one thing that gets over looked by too many counsel gamers that want to raze a game casue they can't "beat it" in 2 days... Content.. Games have story lines from which they were created from. If you don't like the stories, then by God, don't play the game.
Personally I love content. It gives the game life instead of the constant grind of mindless killing. Stories, lore, quests, all this stuff builds up to some epic stories that a player infuses with. You miss it, then you've played another mindless game of shoot'em up just to post on some forum how "special" you are. Like those old school arcade games when you thought you were the best cause you were on the top ten scores until the power was turned off.
Bring along the restrictions, it'll make the game that much better. Some cry, so be it. If you could be any race with any class with anything you wanted to do then this wouldn't be Star Wars anymore but a poor excuse for a MMO to appease a whiner generation.

First its console, second if you think only console gamers have this attitude your insane.

This was my initial reaction as well. But then I thought...why not let the player base choose what they want but "nudge" them in the direction you want by placing limitations, sometimes severe, on races/class combinations that don't make sense. For instance, I suppose a Toydarian could be trooper. I could also suppose he wouldn't be a very good one. I could further suppose that particular Toydarian be so committed to be a trooper that he continues to try in that profession despite his limitations. Most players would chose the class most suited to their race (thus achieving what the developers intended with restrictions in the first place but rather making it the players choice) but it would also preserve the unique "characters" that add such flavor to the Star Wars lore.
Just be careful what what you wish for when you say "content driven" or "story driven". Too often this is code for "linear" and if there's one word I would attach to nearly all of Bioware's titles, that would be it.
doesn't matter to me...its star wars so I will play it cause i'm a huge star wars nut...if it was a flaming pile of poo with a lightsaber i would probably still play it....
If the gameplay sucks, i'll soon find out and then it will pass by the wayside like many games before....I usually give all my mmo games 3 months to get their act together but if its not fun and the gameplay sucks from the git-go then it probably won't last a month...if its fun to play and i'm interested in it, then it'll get that 3 months...maybe more...
In SWG, I created a bothan the smallest you could get them and then clothed her in a Jawa outfit and gun and made her into a Jawa Bounty Hunter on Euro-Chimera server, funny thing seeing that Jawa running around the world...great roleplay though..
Glad they are doing this SWG was spoiled by the fact you had Wookies runing about as pajama wearing jedi.
Uh wookies can be force sensitive just like any other race, chewies nephew is force sensitive.
Yes, they can be...technically. However, George Lucas has stated that there are to be no more Wookie Jedi - period. End of story. Thus, Wookies seem to have lost the ability to have the force it seems (retroactively as well - no additional past ones can be made). Well, since the force is produced by Midi-chlorians in the blood, maybe the Wookies found a vaccine against them? lol.
Was to be expected. Most races are class restricted in games for good reason, and in Star Wars some races are force resistant. Wouuld not make much sense if those races could be Jedi/Sith.
Lore?
Yeah, right...................... This is extremely disappointing. Why be WoW up to the very core? This limitation didn't make sense before, it still doesn't make sense.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
Tbh, I dont like that a bit. I mean, yeah internal story sense, yadda yadda. What about making a MMo *my* fantasy? There may be very few Jedi Wookies or Trooper Chiss... but why can't I be one of the few? Not good.

If there is only a handful in the universe then having thousands makes them not so special doesn't it? Careful for what you wish for else you will get another SWG....

As a role playing game, I definately think there should be race/class restrictions.

I don't terribly hate the idea of races being restricted to certain classes, but I don't like it either.
so...
It is the way it is because of lore... get over it... if you don't like it, don't play it... simple when you think about it really...
Sheesh..
I can't wait for another company to start working on another new Star Wars mmo. Hopefully they will get it right. Galaxies blows and so will TOR.
