If this game is designed correctly and there are enough players, unattended macro'ing will be taken care of by players.  You want to be red and AFK all night chopping a tree?  Okay, I'll just kill you and take what you had.  As long as the skills aren't designed to allow macro'ing inside houses or on boats(if that happens), then this shouldn't be a big problem.

There is a skill cap and it's not going to take a long time to finish your characters, so who cares?  The only thing it can do is change the pricing in the economy, it's not going to hurt it in any way at all.  Where do you guys come up with this stuff?  Now, I don't advocate macro'ing, all I'm saying is if things are done correctly.. it shouldn't even matter.  And there's a weight limit as well.

Botters and hackers should be banned though.

Look at it this way: Now when you're semi-afk macroing, you can use that time you would normally spend pressing 1 every two seconds exercising.

Yep...exercise. All those crunches and pushups and ah...Excuse me there is a bag of chips that is calling my name.

What makes you think that you cant macro all the non-harvesting skills while inside a house?

I don't see the problem with unattended macroing.  It actually makes the most resourceful players advance more quickly and easily.  Think of it as a game within the game.  I dunno, it worked well in UO.

Read what I said again.  I said IF they aren't designed to allow macro'ing in those places.  I never said anything about if skills were or not designed that way as I don't have enough experience with all of them.  I don't think you can practice magic on yourself, possibly others.  Same thing for combat skills.  If your guild has crafting add-ons, then you could macro there as well, though all of those things would require botting, or at least several steps to a macro program as you will need to stop and heal, rest, ect.  You certainly can't practice swimming and other skills like that inside your house,   And again, since there is a wieght limit, you may need to get more catalysts and/or crafting materials.  It would have to be a complex macro or botting program or you'll have to be semi-afk.

Theres an easy fix to that, don't allow skill gain inside personal space.  Houses, guild keeps, boats, and whatever else is in the game where you can seclude yourself and be reasonably safe from harm.  It would promote macro'ing in the open, and the players can at least try to police that.  It would get people out and about the world to gain their skills as well.  Which means more social interaction, more PvP opportunities, more supply to help that economy as well.  But, you know the people who want to macro will cry like babies, claiming it's so anti-sandboxy and doesn't fit the mold of MO.
