Strange thought here guys (don't flame me, just a idea)
think it's a marketing tool to sell more PS3's ?
strange this video comes out now, the game (and all recent FF's) is exclusive to PS3...
I see all these great rigs getting scores from 1k-4k at top end, and the first thing to pop in some (even my own) head is to buy a PS3.
....call me crazy old yoda LOL, but seeing recent gaming history by all big names, SoE, EA, etc I would not put it past them. Your money they want, that is the bottom line.

I have two 5870s and I can verify the benchmark only used one card. MSI afterburner on the entire time and the second card was sitting at 0%. With crossfire I'll see ~8000 so I'm not worried.
I'm building this rig to play crysis 2 and other crap, but will this cut it for FFXIV?
Intel® Core™ i7 980X (3.33GHz, 12MB)
24GB (6X4GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz Memory
500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive with Native Command Queuing
128GB High Performance SATA Additional Solid State Drive
NVIDIA 1.5GB GeForce GTX480
Obviously the FFXIV is going in the SSD, may need to upgrade to a 160gb one to fit all my stuff tho
Why so much memory? Are you gonna be doing hd video or audio rendering? Honestly, you don't need that much ram it is overkill. Go with 6 gb or if you feel you need a lot cap off at like 12 gb. But not 24, unless of course you have different uses for it than gaming. Otherwise, you will not utilize it. Spend the extra money on another gpu, or just save the money. Yes, it will run Final Fantasy for sure though.
What if you are running six operating systems at the same time? Virtualization...
(On the low benchmark since on the high on my 32" is only scraping 2000)
A little low but i should be able to play without a problem - also there wasn't any visible lag which is a good sign
P.S. Game looks owesome as expected and i think the benchmark scores are a little harsh even considering the option since with such a little score my framerates were still within 47-87 FPS (measured with Fraps) throughout the benchmark (not includint the 1200FPS during the logo at the beginning ) which is more than playable.
"Rig":
Windows 7
Core 2 Quad Q8300 - 2.5Ghz
Palit GeForce GTS250 1Gb E-Green (750/1005/1660 at the time of the benchmark)
Well, I pretty much confirmed for mysef that Square-Enix benchmarks are crap. I have The Last Remnant, so I went to the SE site and downloaded the benchmark for TLR. The benchmark stuttered, going down to 9 fps in some parts where the lighting and particle effects were greatest; and barely hitting above 30 fps in the rest with an average of 22 fps on the final "score". Yet TLR the actual game runs smooth as silk with ALL options maxed out with no fps drops during the same scenes used in the benchmark.

I think you're right... maybe they high the stats on the benchmarks for safety? If they told you you wouldn't be able to play and you can, you'll be happy, but if they tell "oh yeah, it'll work on your computer!!!" and it doesn't, then it's trouble...
Seems like it wont run on my new laptop. It just crashes once the vid window opens. Apparently the newest mobile drivers from ATI wont install on it (I tried) because the card is OEM. Alienware says I have to use their drivers which look to be pretty old. Its a radeon 5870 in an alienware M17x. Think the actual game will run when released? Any ideas?

Yes, you will more than likely be fine when the game comes out. Multiple things will be tweaked before release: the game itself, the benchmark program, and graphics cards will get newer drivers and such.

Anyone have any ideas how I can troubleshoot exactly why the benchmark crashes? At first I was assuming it was a video driver problem, but now I think about it I dont really have any reason to know that it is video and not something else. Is there an error log or a way to make win7 log errors?
I call shenanigans on the benchmark. I got a fairly low score despite the fact that visually I couldn't discern any significant drop in FPS, even during the scene with the monsters on the deck. Strangely, though, the only time I noticed any slow down was at the very end when the camera is flying over the water before focusing on the ship.
When I bought my new pc I never upgraded my card so right now I have a Geforce Gt240 and the best I get is a 2000 on low. I'll be upgrading very soon but the deal is that if you have a crappy card you will need to definitely upgrade. There is no way around it. You will also benefit in the long run by upgrading because today games are becoming more gpu demanding than actual cpu.
Asus P7P55D. Intel i5 750. Mushkin 1600 DDR3 4 gigs. Radeon 5770 HD GDDR5 1 gig. Seagate 500G 7200RPM.
So the only real two bottlenecks I have are the HDD and the video card (*770s are given 128 memory addressing versus 256 or 512). But even then, the total capacity of this computer is able to run games like AoC on high without going below 60FPS. So I don't buy that my computer can't handle FFXIV, especially after the fact the demo has no noticeable hiccups or slowdowns until one instance with the flyover the sea water near the end.
Well, I got a 3941 for the low but when I finished the high, my screen resolution was too low for me to move the screen around to see my own score, but as an indication of everyone elses here, its prob dropped to 3000 or so, which isnt bad I guess.
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.
I didn't run the low, but I ran the high and didn't even crack 3000.. It was 2941 or around there.
I'm running an alienware MX17 lap top with 2 gigs memory, 250 gig HD (with 50 gigs empty space), an Nvidia Geforce 260 (I think it's an M) 1 gig video card.... The video played very good with no slowdown anywhere.. Not sure about this score, and not sure it's discriminating against ATI cards, as mine is Nvidia.

..That would only help Sony, not S-E?
I'm going to the store right now to get a PS3

I wonder what it takes to hit over 8000 on high settings ?
Games on my waiting list:
Guild War 2
Tera
Rift
Forsaken World
Two nVidia 480's in SLI and an i7 930/980X should do the trick.

Doesn't SOE own like 20 or 24% of S-E?
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
I guess im ok....
