Restricting race/class combinations is not a problem with me.  It happens in every game out there.

Droids cant be jedi, only living things can be force sensitive.

Hayden Christansen's performance disproves that theory.

I find it hard to argue with this point.

I can see some rectrictions like droids not being force sensative but other then that its like saying Americans cannot learn martial arts only Asians can. Like I said this game is going to blow ass. It may get some high numbers at first but once everyone realizes they are playing a combo of STO and WAR or WoW with a little Pirates of the Caribbean thrown in, they will quit.

I'd play a Pirates of the Caribbean sandbox in a heartbeat!

Does this mean we get wookies, since JL said they couldn't be jedi, race restrictions make this possible.

    Make it so...

  • eburneburn Member Posts: 740

Eh I'm playing 1 character for as long as I could.

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

You still don't understand the situation.  George Lucas *OWNS* Star Wars.  Lock, stock, and barrel.  If he doesn't want the lore tampered with- no one (and this includes you!  And all the rest of the unhappy multitudes!) will tamper with it.  Or they will get their butts sued off!

If you don't like the game.  Pick another or go off and create one of your own!  Stop complaining about this one!

It's a difficult topic - but especially for StarWars, if not for any MMO, the lore is important. Don't we all remember how SWG has been (still is to some extent) criticized for not being StarWars-y enough?

And it seems like a Twi'lek can be a Smuggler, but with restrictions, which means a penalty on being very  cunning?

Then again, I can agree from a pure gaming/fan view, that restrictions suck. If I take WoW here as well, I always loved the Hunter class due to the taming of pets. When playing Horde, it was a Cow or an Orc mainly that was then interesting - want to be an Undead Hunter? No chance. Doesn't make sense from the lore, bla bla bla, basta. I accept it, but I don't like it.

SWG tampered with it - they got told off, but not sued?

They may have; but I betcha they were read the riot act by LucasArts with the understanding that if they kept it up they would be sued!

This probably explains why George is so hands on about this game.  Actually as regards lore, George has trashed his own lore more throughly than anyone else.  That's one reason why these compliants are so funny!

I think we are forgetting about one major feature of the game. Its all fully voiced. Which means, if you had every race as every class, then that is a whole lot more voice over work. Hundreds of thousands of hours of work; not to mention that you have both male and female of each race. There is only so much they can feasibly do.

I usually do avoid arguing against freedome but in this case I can't in good conscious really go against this.  For one it is established lore and if there are rules they must follow then they actually should just be doing that.  Most franchises based off of an established lore will have limitations involving race/class for obvious reasons.  I think that can rank high on the srew up scale for SOE and SWG the entire jedi fiasco, while it didn't help all the deception involved in the process many just couldn't reconcile the fact that Jedi should not have exsited in quite the large numbers they did in that game.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I think the main issue of importance with this is the standard they're using to restrict the race/class combinations. If it's an all-or-nothing-because-this-race-never-could-do-it-for-reasons-explained-in-the-books thing, that's understandable. If, on the other hand, they're only letting Twi'leks play as Consulars/Inquisitors and they're only letting Zabraks play as Knights/Warriors because they want Twi'leks to be the "caster race" and Zabraks to be the "tanky race," I don't want anything to do with it.

Lore restrictions are fine when used appropriately and judiciously, but race choices are as much an aesthetic decision as a statistical one; not everyone wants to play a huge melee character or a slender trickster. Restrict things that would be impossible given the lore, not things that would be improbable. The fewer choices I have with character selection and growth, the less invested I become in my character. The less invested I am in my character, the less invested I am in the game.

Give me a SW game that fits the mythic or go make a different game. As long as it fits with what we know, and especially when it comes to the Chiss this is important, do what you got to do. If you aren't happy because the Star Wars mythic doesn't fit your MMO fantasies go play a non SW MMO. This is Star Wars, why wouldn't they do everything they could to make the game based on the Star Wars IP fit into the Star Wars universe. Anything less would be a ridiculous waste of their time and ours.

    Played in some form:
UO til tram, AC, EQ, AO, WW2O, PS, SB, CoH, AC2, Hor, LoTRO, DDO, AoC, Aion, CO, STO
    Playing: WoW (for gf), WAR
    Waiting For: SWTOR, FFXVI
Hoping For: DCUO, Secret World, Earthrise
    -S- (UO Sonoma)

Same story again. Many people complaining about not being able to make wookie-cyborg-mutant-jedies while clearly understanding that a game without a solid background will suck some donkeys balls.

...There wil probably be Twi'lek Jedi

Race restrictions on careers makes perfect sense. Even for careers like Imperial Agent and Soldier.... seems like a wookie would not end up being an Imperial Agent... I wouldn't really see it.

Class / Race restriction makes alot of sense. Everquest was a good example, you could not be a Barbarian cleric but you could be a Barbarian shaman. You couldnt be a High Elf shaman .. but you could be a High Elf cleric. Sometimes the fit needs to be understandable for lore's sake.

I gotta admit though... i would realy have loved to have seen a Gnome or Halfling  monk :). But how could they be effective kickin butt with such short legs. Then again .. .. there is Yoda :)

They don't make any sense, stop defending shitty development decisions.

I have a feeling droids will be playable and this is a lead up to that. Probably more humanoid droid like 4-LOM or IG-88. How cool would that be? Obviously they cannot be force sensitive. I also agree that Wookie will be restricted to non-force classes.

Troopers don't technically need to be human only, guess it depends on if they are playing off the clone thing?

I am looking to play a Twi'lek Bounty Hunter, but never know maybe they will be restricted due to head tails clipping helmet animations? Alot of time/effort will need to go into the art to accomodate those types of things.

I think Bioware needs to walk a fine line with the race restrictions. Only class a Twi'lek for example; theoretically should be restricted from is Trooper. Another "restriction" they may be talking about is Twi'lek color...red for sith, blue/green/eyc for Jedi.

It's all about the lore. If you dont care to be that involved in it and just want to argue then it is impossible for you to understand.
