WoW can they get a bigger tool to play FF14. Is it just me or did that guy not know how to use a keyoard and mouse.
I wish i was able to see the combat system all i saw was a chick swing a sword and useing no skills. So where was the combat we where tols we were going to see?
I hope they put out a real video with real combat not this person that does not even know how to follow some one.
Every video and interview I see about this game always has them saying a bunch of stuff and yet providing absolutely no new information what-so-ever.
I hope this game is really good, and has story and quests to play through rather than just kill 50000 mobs a day.
The stuff you'll read about online from now will mainly be about the beta game which was demoing at E3. It isn't a grinder and the gameplay involves solo/group quests, it's a very PvE-orientated game.
It looks better than before but that is not saying much. Graphics look good as well but the combat is still dull and my god why would you market a video like this! Put someone who knows what they are doing to play the game instead of us watching him sheathe his sword a million times.
Btw stop with the fallacy that this takes anymore skill than WoW because it is slower. If anything it gives you more time, and by more i mean a whole lot more, to think up what strategy to do next. A rogue in WoW with that kind of stamina/energy bar would have an easy time throwing all sorts of combos out.
Now WoW is not hard, but this is like WoW on kiddy mode.
lol. Again speed != Skill. You have more options in FF14 than you do time or resources to expend them. You can't just come up with a chain of attacks and go down your macro bar and /win. And frankly, If all a person played was WoW they would get demolished in the high end of most MMO's, including FF11 and FF14.
Now you are just delusional. In WoW you cannot hit 1 button over and over in pvp and win. You obviously never played the game if you believe that is true. In WoW the limiter is the global cool down and resource management system. No rogue can spam sinister strike all day and expect to win.
All the lack of speed does is give you more time to think about what to do next. Which from what I have seen is just hit another attack anyway.
When I first learned of FFXIV, being a former SE fanboy, I flipped out and got all giddy. I just don't think I have it in me to play this game. I don't want to play FFXI ver. 2.0 which is what this looks like to me. The only game that has my attention is Tera, and that is only because of the fast paced combat system and the possibility of skill driven gameplay.
I feel the same way. I was excited about this game originally, but I think they are making it way too much like FFXI. It needs to be it's own entity, not just a 2010 serving of FFXI
(From Alpha.... the combat speed in this video is much slower than the new combat, but at least you get to see someone who actually knows how to play and give the game a little justice).
Thanks for posting the link. So the combat is slow and boring even with an experienced player. Good to have the comparison. Now I can't blame Stradden for being a noob, but FF for being the most overhyped unorignal boring piece of schlock to get spewed out of the MMO stamper lately. This certainly will be the next WoW killer just like WAR and Aion were, oh wait...
All the alpha stuff shows you is that combat isn't just a case of pressing 1button over an over, which is what is possible in WoW PvE. Wait till release when you can see the final thing I think!
AMEN brother!
Stop talking about games you haven't played. In every game you can be CARRIED through an instance by hitting one button but in WoW in order to play effectively you do need to know a rotation that for most classes cannot be macroed very efficiently.
I am sick of WoWs lack of adding new innovative content and just reseting the gear grind every few months but the majority of you critics out there have no clue about what the game is really like.
maybe next time they actually show some combat instead of someone fumbling around, I couldn't get into ffXI past lvl 11 too much grind and I cpuld never find a group. the level down thing is what really killed it and the fact that enemies could still hit you when your 500 ft away and you have to be 5 ft away in order to hit them, unless your ranged. I just hope they changed the penelty xp loss is unacceptable for me. it has so much potential to be good but limited character creation is a downside, I'll just wait until till i see how crafting how combat actually works
HOLY FRIGGING BATMAN! This was one of the worst preview videos ever!
Gawd... if I ever have difficulties to sleep, I can use this video instead of counting sheep! This video was SO bad, I don't know enough "your mom" and "Chuck Norris" jokes worth it.
Really, I mean, maybe it was just bad luck, but I really admired the commentator guy for keeping his merry voice and not cursing and yelling! I mean... the majority of the time we see the characters running. Quite odd, I must say. I mean, no offense, maybe the controls are that difficult, but it looked like whoever played that had never played any video game before! Then this cave! It looked so dull, without any highlights or what. And why did they spent endless time running behind that crab? And then they FINALLY reach it, the crab just STANDS THERE, it does not even fight back and the party attacks it with the most generic and dull attack animations I have seen a long time, and then without anything suddenly after 3 attacks the crab falls down.
I am sorry, but this isnt strategy, this is a frigging sleep pill! I mean, I am really the last person who wants all hyper combat, but THIS?
These were the longest 8 minutes I had experienced in years!
EDIT: I watched this youtube combat video also... and sorry... whoever invented this stamina bar? Half of the combat the character and the NPC just STAND THERE. Maybe this is for ppl with danger to have heart attacks so they need something soothing... *shakes head*. Sorry, so not my cup of tea.

It does seem like the commentator was annoyed but trying to stay professional the whole time. I give them credit for making the game more solo friendly as well as listening to feed back from the alpha.
But really haven't seen anything that wows me yet. I really don't think mmos should use the standard kill x quest on previews such as this. What scares me is that maybe all the quests in FF14 will be like that, reminds me a lot of SWG when it was just terminal missions to kill hives.
Now you are just delusional. In WoW you cannot hit 1 button over and over in pvp and win. You obviously never played the game if you believe that is true. In WoW the limiter is the global cool down and resource management system. No rogue can spam sinister strike all day and expect to win.

With good gear and a macro that rotates your skill you might.
I personally think the combat is perfect. I can't wait to play a game without the fanboy little boys that are obsessed with the button spamming piece of shit mmo's out now a days. This is a game that will actually require a little intelligence, so hopefully the little boy fags won't overcrowd this mmo.
One of my favorite aspects of FFXI was the mature crowd. Hopefully this trend will continue for FFXIV.

That's certainly what WoW dps is all about, spamming key rotations that you can reduce to macros and map to mouse buttons. Given that players there obsessively monitor PvE dmg the only way to look good is by this method or they label you a n00b.
Where did they find the guy playing, kindergarten? Yeah, watching him blunder around was REAL fun. And chasing a damn mob around for 10 minutes at a time? Yeah, let me get right on one of those "kill ten generic mob" quests right away so I can waste an entire play session on one quest because I had to chase each mob around.
Wake me when they have a final version available to show, because what they call beta is just not looking very interesting.
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.- -And on the 8th day, man created God.-
Looks alright and fits with other FF games. I'll perhaps pick it up if they allow an option to configure your game controls like a typical MMO. Going to make a decision as we come along with development.
Graphics are standard square-enix quality and combat also, but i felt that the combat was really tiresome and boring in FFXI and this don't look any more exhilarating, too slow paced for MMO format, the pace is fine for singleplayer FF games, but for online action, it's just too tiring...
For people nonsense on the controls in FFXI as default was with the arrow keys and you could change it from the options to wasd.
What's so hard to get? the guy playing couldn't even move well maybe they should have given him 5 min or some more to learn how to use the controls before filming but it's surely not the games fault.
Sorry for saying this but if you go to E3 your expected to be a gamer or something similar, not knowing how to move when it's either arrow keys or wasd it's pretty dumb honestly not to say about using skills but whatever.
Fell asleep half way threw this video. Is it just me or does it seem like the more they show on this game, the worse of a game it seems to be.
I remember when I saw the first cinimatic, mixed with "real game play", video they put out a long while ago and thinking this game is going to be awesome. But I gotta say, that was the last and only time I've felt that way about this game. I was hoping FF 14 would be both a huge improvment over FF 11, be something new and innovative for the MMO market, and show me that a Final Fantasy MMO can be just as amazing or better then the the series' single player games.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this game is REALLY looking like just another bad Asian MMO port, just with some nice graphics. Aweful character creation and all.

Heck if you cannot macro your dmg rotation and then map it to one mouse button leaving your beer hand free to swig a cold one then the game must have a boring combat system I am guessing.

Go Macro your dps as a feral druid and tell me how that goes. Or any class to maximize dps you need to be dynamic with use of trinkets and buffs. then again its obvious neither of you have played the game that far.
I just have one question. Who was controlling the character? LOL! In one fell swoop MMORPG.com may have killed this games chances to be any kind of a success. That person playing made this games combat look like a total snoozefest.

That was painful, what a fing noob at the controls. Seriously......that made me want to puke.
I like the graphics but the combat is really uneventfull. We'll see where they'll go with this i guess...

The person controlling the char should have played at least 1 MMO before he did this demo - MMORPG.com just made FF look rly bad
I play all ghame
The major problem with FFXIV it has crap mouse+keyboard controlls. In the alpha its only good playable with ps3 controlers.
Go Macro your dps as a feral druid and tell me how that goes. Or any class to maximize dps you need to be dynamic with use of trinkets and buffs. then again its obvious neither of you have played the game that far.
