Why don't you post this in the Looking for Game forum?

After all these years it's mainly a very small choice.

    Either EVE or WOW.

What's Aion doing on that list ?!?!?!

I wish there were more choices, but some pretty good ideas were massacred by mediocre game developpers.

IF you hate dungeons, raids and battlegrounds and you want a real space opera with huge space battles and planets to discover ... you're screwed.

2014 ... is a long way off and who says Blizzard will even deliver again ?

Without really knowing what you are looking for in a game, it would be hard to recommend out of the three.  They are pretty different in the way they play. (oops, apparently you did this while I was typing)

Aion - Korean/Western hybrid where the grind is still prevalent at higher levels.  The endgame isn't that great, but with the recent announcement of server mergers, it may get better (as far as the PvP is concerned)

WoW - Your standard themepark fare. Very gear centric.  Very PvE oriented with a bit of PvE thrown in (more so now).  After you reach max level, the only thing to do is grind the raids for gear.  The community has a reputation of being pretty bad.  The new expansion, "Cataclysm", is set to be released soon, which will change most of the existing land masses in Azeroth.

Eve - The second biggest sub game in the West.  One of the few sanboxish games available.  Space oriented.  Skill based.  High learning curve.  If you can make it past the trial, you may really like the game.

But the difference beetween WoW and EVE is so huge it is like asking "should I be Gay or Straight?"

No one can answer that for you.

The upside is that with games you can try both, ( well you can with sexual preference to, but that seems like a bad idea ).

I like them both, for different reasons, ( the games that is ).

I have a movie analogy I use from time to time.

Sometimes you want in your face comedy like jim Carey in the pet detective, wich is a lot of fun.

Sometimes you want more subtle humour like the Cohens "the Big lebowski", wich is also a lot of fun, but in a different way.

So to try to answer your question I would like to pose another one.

What other kind of entertainment do you like?

I guess I like a MMO that could be as Fable, you have a avatar that you play and can dress (armor, etc).

Like to have alot of "social" aspects in the game. Not from other players, but like content such as vanity things, even possibility to have your own home.

Some kind of game that will give you the sense your in this huge world that isn't flat but have a history with mountains, desert, ruins where you can explore and like...

And to have your avatars to look original, not flat 3d plain simple avatar. But some kind of origninality to them.

Some avatar creating system don't have no limit so it just becomes redicilous :

Some kind of action adventure game with social aspects like, yea. A house would be cool, place to be yours. Whatever things like that :) A pony! Yes!

Well, by what you described I really wouldn't recommend you any of the games you initially were aiming for. You should be open to other suggestions, since the only one of the 3 that has some depth is Eve, but from what you said I don't think you'd like to play as a spaceship on a (surely) non-action/adventure mmo.

    Ultima Online 98~04
    Dark Age of Camelot 03~07
    Final Fantasy XI 04~06
    Guild Wars 05~08
    World of Warcraft 04~05
    Unsuccessful Tries: DFO/EQ2/DRaja/Rag/Req/RYL/9D/Cabal/KO/PSU/RF/GE/TO/TR/DDO/EVE/LoTRO/L2/RZ/SWG/VG

What is this new game called APB? Is it a MMO or groups randomly connected? Hidden lobby room behind the game?

World of Warcraft and Aion are the only ones I have experience with (I played eve for about 5 minutes before I gave up trying to learn anything),  I recommend Aion over WoW, they're going to practically add an expansion in the near future for free!

World of Warcraft is expensive to get to level 80 :/ 40$ for the battlechest (Vanilla + TBC) another 30$ for WoTLK (70$ box price for an mmo? no thanks)  I hope I'm out of the loop and they've put out a battlechest for Vanilla + TBC + WoTLK for 40$ because that's what it's worth right now.

If I wasn't going to be playing All Points Bulletin religiously next week, I'd be playing Aion still.  Love the story, love the crafting (although a lot of people don't) and I love the combat (CCCCOMBO!!!!!)

I believe in the future Aion has more potential then WoW will have (Aion in 2.0 will be adding player housing and feature a new combat system plus a graphic engine revamp).  Beat that, WoW....don't even have player housing yet after 6 years

I have played WoW off and on for the last 5 years and am currently subbed to it.  It's fun but I can only get about 2 hours worth of fun a day out of it before I get bored again.  This could also be due to the fact that I have leveled every single class to 60-70 more than twice and have 3 80's.  I like the game but I just get bored with it quickly.  You may like it a lot if you have never played it before so theres a good chance for you here.

Aion I played for a few months and although I enjoyed it, it felt too grindy.  I hear they have put stuff in to make it feel less grindy like more quests and added more xp to the quests that were already there.  I don't know how it feels since then because I haven't resubbed.  I did like the game and have been thinking about resubbing at least for another month to test it out again and see how things go from there.

Eve I have tried the trial several times and just can't get into it.  The main reason being there isn't a lot of direction.  I'm unclear how weapons work such as upgrade and skills that I should be training and what not.  It doesn't give you any help in the (if you want to do this then you should work on this skill) department.  The graphics are good and the community is fine but I just can't get into a game that people claim has a "steep learning curve" when that isn't really the case.  There is not a steep learning curve however there is a lack of any direction for how to do things and become what you think you might want to be in the game.

All in all...i say try WoW and if you like that then great.  Try EvE second because of the free trial and then if that isnt your cup of tea then try Aion.  All are good games if they are what you are looking for in an MMO but you have my opinion now and my reasons for playing and liking / not liking the games so get out there and make your own opinions on them.

On a factor of fun. I would say WoW is the best. That's why it's popular. Aion looks good graphic wise but has heavy grind and tons of invisible walls in that spectacular landscape. Eve setting is phenomenal but the gameplay leaves much to be desired.

Discerning factor = Fun. WoW has it by the bundle.

Well, I have tried all 3.  Wow lasted by far as the longest interest and things to do up to a point.  Aion is being billed as the PvP party of the bunch along with Eve second and WoW third.  If PvP is your thing then that might be a deciding factor.  Fun wise, I'll still go with WoW out of those 3.  Aion was glorious on the character creation / customization but that quickly ended when then fun level was sub par.  Eve, well Eve is beautiful for a space game, it is truly what I was expect for a space MMO to be.  However, the game play and learning curve is by far the most dramatic of the 3.  Hope that helps,

I've played countless of mmorpgs, those three you've mentioned included.

I've also read through all pages of this topic, to get a feel of your likings.

My opinion (just positive things, as you wished):

    - Eve - is one of its own kind, it's either you like it or hate it, nothing in between. It's also vastly diffrent from the other two. Trial should quickly decide on which side are you on.

    - World Of Warcraft - trial won't really tell you much about the game unless you like to kill boars, almost 100% of community is focused on the endgame activities (instances, raids, arena, battlegrounds and achivments from the main things to do), what I really liked about this game - there was always so much to do(that and epic fantasy world with rich lore behind it) ... and theorycrafting, all those beautifull spreadsheets paired with discussion on different strategies - here lies the brilliance of game design, very easy to pick up for casual players, yet so 'deep' for someone who wants to know the actual mechanics of the game.

    - Aion - modern version of Lineage II, uhmm... need more positives, where did I hide them ... *searching pockets* aha! Beautifull characters with wings and flashy skills! Still popular!..umm I'm sure I could think about some more positives if I would think hard about them!

You've also mentioned APB earlier - I think you must settle on one setting first, be it fantasy, scfi or more real enviroment. What do you really like the most? It's because all those games are hard to compare to each other, and while WoW and Aion are both good, so is EVE. Question is, swords and magic? Guns and cars? Spaceships?
