We'll use SoE and an example. They are releasing new MMO's even though they have..(I wont bother to look up the exact amount) maybe 8 MMO's offered. I promise you one thing and this is a 100% fact. SoE would not be releasing new MMO's if it was losing them money.
For Blizzard to wait till WoW dies before they release an alternative/new MMO would epically stupid on their part. Why wait till your customers are gone before you...ahh this line of logic is stupid. To debate it is even more stupid.
Blizzard is developing a new MMO expect them to announce something about it after cataclysm starts growing a little stale. I'd guess around 2 years from now. Like I said earlier in this post, they cant really hurt themselves by having 2 MMO's. Especially if its enough like WoW but different.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
What about all the company's who are making their entrance into the MMO genre? Blizz is a great company, all they did for the MMO world was put a lot of ideas from other games together. Now that people have realized there is really nothing to WoW, people are looking elsewhere. SWTOR is going to be a massive success. DOn't believe all the trash you read on here. Like WoW did four years ago, Tor is bringing a huge new crowd.
Come on SWTOR isnt going to even make a dent in the MMO market.
Like STO, it will attract Ip fans, but most will quit after the Sub gets too much.
Just take a look at the E3 Videos. That should speak right there. Literally
This is true what MMO-X says.
SWtOR will pull in some new blood, but nothing like WoW has done. And I dont think its going to pull more than a few tens-of thousands of current WoW players away permanently.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
There is a lot of precedent in this industry for following up on a successful game with something lame. But so far Blizzard has been immune to that curse.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

WoW brought in young players. Now those player's are old, bored, or don't like MMO's because the WoW community was crap. SWTOR IP will bring in a lot of players. A lot of current MMO player's are very excited about this game. And seeing how the TOR booth was the most visited booth at E3 this year, a lot of people are atleast looking into this game. It's going to have a huge launch and withing the first year im sure it will gather a large sub base.
To youre other post:
SoE can make and afford to hold/lose on these games because they are all made on the same engines and the mechanics are all almost the same. With the exception of Planet Side, which was a great game.. Blizz is to smart. They would milk WoW until it dry's up before they even think about dropping a new MMO. They have done it with all their games. People still play SC, I have 3 friends on atm playing Frozen Throne. They would lose money having to up keep a dying game, as well as a newly dropped one. SoE is a great example of that. Im sure EQ isnt making them any money anymore with EQ2 out. But they still have it listed.
The only time I see long time MMO players quit their MMO is if there is an alternative for them.
If a company like Blizzard announces their new MMO, what will the majority of the current players do.
Would you expect every other MMO to get a huge drop in subscriptions or not?
It really depends on how good the game is. Just because Wow was huge doesn't mean that next game will be.
Few of the people who started to work on Wow in the late 90s are still working for Blizzard. Blizzard have previous been good to predict trends but we don't know how long they can do that.
It is impossible to say if the game will be as huge as Wow or fail totally. We don't even know what the game will be.
My guess is that it will be one a few larger game but not the top one, Blizzards strongest point have always been to do what other people already done but add polish and stability. The last really innovative game they made was Diablo and that was a long time ago.
However do I think that MMOs are about to change a lot, with companies such Arenanet and CCP in the lead. Blizzards game will be more conventional (judging on all their earlier games) and probably will compete with TOR.
So my guess is 3.4 million subs, about the 3rd largest MMO when it comes out. But I believe that the MMO they make after that could become top, it depends if MMOs stagnate again or continue to evolve.
It is still a guess and like all posts here based on few facts but I would think Guildwars 2 will be the next big game, not whatever Blizzard is making.
Unless they cancel it before release, it will be quite a big success. On the other hand, games that were partially developed and cancelled in the past such as Starcraft: Ghost, probably had a much lower investment than an MMO has, so there is the possibility of having a crappy product released just to lower the damages.
Anyway, i'm getting away from topic, the most probable thing is that it will be a significant success. Kotick has said in the past that they will go after broader audience with Blizzard's MMO so i expect a casual game with some hardcore elements and many social stuff.
If they go this way, i expect most popular games on facebook to become standalone games (MMOs). I'm rather interested on what hardcore (not professional) gaming will become.
Seeing that we know nothing... absolutely, positively, totally and completely nothing... there is no way that anyone could possibly give any kind of intelligent speculation on this topic.
There is Blizzard's new MMO wiki, a wiki dedicated to this game, but some stuff are unclear and not cited with sources so i don't know how close to the truth they are.
At this point no one can give an intelligent answer to this. Judging the new activisioned Blizzard and the way the handled WoW after the merger chances are it doesn't end well so we'll see.
Personally I'm expecting an incredible easy, highly polished, hybrid game with gay graphics and tons of hyping.
HOPEFULLY it will have no impact at all Wow did poison the genre more than enough.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

Yeah this is my position here too... just don't know enough to even think about it yet.
What a joke. Why do people feel like they need to relate the whole genre of MMO's to Blizzard.
Because they're big I guess. I could have included Funcom or SoE, but no one cares what they do anymore, at least not enough to change MMO from my experience.
So its safe to say from your experience you have no experience, seeing as how companies such as those, among others pushed the genre forward. Just cause its mainstream doesn't mean its the only only thing on the block.
Hell, the new Diablo will pull away a chunk of MMO subscribers, including WoW's, for at least a time. . Diablo is very popular. . I wouldn't be surprised if Diablo gave WoW more competition that all the other MMOs combined.

This is the exact reason why I have stopped with all MMO's at the moment.
Depends what it is ? Maybe they will make a WoW clone!

I'm just going to have agree with this one. LOL!
It won't change much if the game is too similar to WoW, in my opinion. If it isn't similar, then I dunno - wait and see.
