Please forgive my ignorance on this particular issue, but how is the combat in FFXIV different than what I just mentioned? Can you physically move your character in response to mob attacks to actually dodge attacks? Can you use the environment for strategical advantages or cover?
a) You choose when to attack and how. There is no auto attack.
b) Orientation and position matters. Monsters take more damage from sides and back (applies to players too), you can break monsters body parts or weapon by striking from certain angle (supposedly), many skills and spells require you to position yourself in a particular way to get most out of it ( there are skills that hits all the monsters in between you and the target, attacks that become AoE if you stand still long enough (meaning you need to position yourself in a way that the attack hits as many mobs as possible), for one class spells are frontal cone and for the other class the spells are centered around him, meaning you need to be mobile to be most effective). Your distance affects your damage and how easily the monster can hit you. A spear user can hit 2 monsters at once if they're close enough, for example. If you're far from the mob, it can't hit you as easily instead.
That kind of stuff is important. You don't just "stand still" or you'll be ineffective.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
