Read that the onion helm increases recovery rate while in battle... still would rather have the exp.
Until you finally need a helmet that affords some protection.. My guess is the xp glasses will probably offer enough bonus xp to be usefull early on but will become far less of an impact over actual armor type gear..
By increasing recovery, do you mean like MP recovery? Becuase if you've been following the details of this game, I can pretty much guarantee that shortening MP downtime will garner more XP than the goggles.
I didnt think about the bonus exp being less effective the more you level up, hope to see more info on this before launch. Also, it doesnt specify if its hp or mp recovery. But, yes if it is mp recovery then that would be very nice from what I have read to.

Yeah, more info needed, which I'm sure we will get.. I had the same impression when I first looked at the items too.

FFXIVCore has the onion helm listed as reducing death penalty and if XIV still has xp loss or some other kind of xp penalty on death then it may balance the two items out considerably... just thought I'd throw that in there. :P
Just put your PS3 pad into your PC Bam, play as if you were on a PS3 simples!
I take it euro/usa servers are seperated?
Nope the servers are global. Everyone from USA, EU and JP (and everywhere else) will be playing together. Same goes for the different platforms as well. PS3 and PC will share servers.
Is this going to be just like the FFXI release and USA logs in to find max level JP players?

Hehe well in XI Japan had had a very large head start on the rest of the world. XIV is launching simultaneously worldwide so I doubt it'll happen again somehow.
Did some more reading.. The onion hat is referred to as a bonus CE Item.. The goggles are referred to as a pre-order item.. So maybe pre-order CE get both. I'll do some more looking..

That's good... although if I do get it I probably won't start a week early so I will assume the majority of the JP players will be max level by then

hmm alot complaining about 1 alt costing 3$/month, but doesnt mention how the monthly sub is 3 $ lower than the standard...a tad curious, to how they will try to mape ppl want to, to have more chars tho - am quite certain they hope ppl will want 3 or more alts over time, but for now to me its a good thing.
hm edit: and like others in this thread am VERY suprised they would think the game is ready for release already, but will see I guess.
anyone who fears the extra cost for extra chars must not of tried FF11.
If this game uses the job / sub job type of system as ff11 alts were pointless, your 1 character could max every job level aside from changing the race look of your character you could easily play a mage one day a warrior the next with a simple job change. It was 1 of the best parts of ff11 imo and I could never see myself making an alt when you could just have 1 super character with all the trades and jobs then just play him as you wanted.
I like the fact we all get 1 bank / mule type character that way you can mail stuff from 1 and put in on the auction with another saves on long trips perhaps seems kinda cool to me.
lol cuz they'll only charge you a dollar for 'Mule' toons.
Umm.. That should read.. Charge you for 'additional' mule toons, since everybody gets a free retainer. SO if I want to pay the normal sub price of $15 for an mmo.. that would be.. wait.. difficult math incoming... the sqare of the retainer, divided by the uselessness of an alt, subtract from that class restrictions.. and that comes to a grand total of 1 playable character and 3 retainers, for $14.99 a month.

Yea obvious trolls are obvious. FFXI was a huge success and it used the same model of having one character on the account with extra ones costing $$. I personally was hugely surprised that they are allowing one mule account, as we like to call it in ffxi. This is a character that usually handles your ah transactions in one of the major cities, and usually we had to pay extra to have those characters. Getting one for free is awesome.
To say it's a grindfest because one character can explore every quest? That's just absurd. It's a grindfest because it is an oldschool mmo that requires hardwork on your part and those you group with to reach max level, and when you get there, its an accomplishment and something well recognized. Obtaining the highest level in FF isn't something like wow where everyone and their mother does it on day one.
I can't wait to play it, call me a fanboy if you will. I just haven't seen any arguments that really worry me about this game because it comes from ignorance of having not played ff11 that made many into these "fanboys"

Not to mention that you could getr the game sub +2 alts/1 alt and the cardgame for the same as any other mmo.

Anyone order that from Amazon? I did and it has a delivery date of 28th-30th, and yes I did buy the CE version not the regular one. Wonder if I got hosed from Amazon, seems like they would need to get it on the 21th and overnight it to deliver on the 22nd. I got the standard shipping so maybe thats it, you might need to pay the extra mula to get it on the 22nd. If anyone has ordered it from Amazon.com pipe up please.

I like the Galka, was never a fan of the taru other than as a mule. I also had a human mule in the game. So not that big of a deal that they are going with the same model, and if they are making them even for stats, thats even better. Most people had there favorite race in the game and stuck with it, some of the guys that played 11 still prefer the Taru and Elven as there main char, vs any of the other races.

Same for me too. But that is a surprise that it is coming out this soon, guess they were further into production that I was lead to believe.

Thanks Nitakito, I might just pre-order it from somewhere else if they are not delivering 22-23rd unless you do an overnight.
