I'm so excited for this game. I've been following it since it was called project rapture years ago and until today it all seemed like a fairy tale to me since I was waiting and hoping for so long.
I can't wait to adventure with my linkshell friends once again.
quick question, i was never into the last final fantasy, was way before i started playing mmorpg's 5 years ago. I tried it recently but couldnt get into it, i think because of its age maybe. Will the new one play very similar to the old one? I hope it will use regular controls like todays mmorpg's and not like the old final fantasy because i did not like that very much.

That really is the golden question atm - whether the camera is controlled by the mouse or the numpad again...
Someone knows, I'm sure of it, though I've heard nothing about it as well either way.

I hope SquareEnix ends up having some official forums this time around so I don't have to go on 3rd party sites to chat with others outside of the game. :x

C'mon you know you loved the craziness of the glory days of Killing Ifrit
Now let's see if the console version ever makes it off the ground at all. FFXI was ported from console to PC a year after it released in Asia. Once again, PC gamers wind up funding console game development which has yet to materialize in a MMORPG. Simultaneous development hasn't worked yet and the end results are shallow 3-button mashers for PCers. If Sony manages to pull it off with DCUO, I think they'll be the first.

lol I remember. I also always remember worrying about my accounts security because I went to that site xD
Choosing the collectors edition will allow you early access to the game on the 22nd September, as well as including a making-of DVD, a Final Fantasy XIV-branded security token, an art book, special cover art by Yoshitaka Amano, a “fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate” and a stat-boosting Onion Helm item for pre-orders. Pre-ordering the standard edition gets you a Garland Goggle, which does not do anything in the game.

I can't remember where it was but I'm pretty sure I read that the game will have a community site along the lines of the WoW armoury... seems every MMO wants one these days. I'd assume though that if that's the case then there will be some means of communicating via official channels outside of the game. Might not necessarily be a forum though...

I have been thinking about making a FF14 site for guilds to get together and recruit and such. But I am probably to busy the next few months to do it. Be nice if somebody else did.
If you order from Amazon, make sure to select "Release Date Delivery". It was free for me, but I'm an Amazon Prime member, so not sure what they charge for that option otherwise. Amazon is offering $10 off a future game purchase with the Standard Edition, but not the CE. So, for those not needing to play on the 22nd, the price differential becomes $35, including the $10 promo.
As to paying for extra character slots, as an alt-a-holic, I have to say I HATE that playable slots are an extra $3/month! I didn't mind the $1/month with FFXI, $3 is just excessive. Every MMO I've played for more than 4 months earned the additional time by offering an enjoyable alt experience. Even if only 30% of the potential playerbase are fellow alt-a-holics, it seems SE is really shooting themselves in the foot on this one. Data storage is so insanely cheap today, it just doesn't make any sense from a business perspective.
I think that I would prefer $1/month for an additional slot, plus a one time $5 fee to upgrade a slot from retainer to playable. That would seem a lot more reasonable to me, while still supporting any other motives SE may have for trying to limit character slots.

Costs $12 for the "release day delivery"
And the $3 charge for additional characters is brilliant, cause this solidifies the need for one to play nice and keep a good reputation with your name, exactly as in FFXI where your reputation is everything!
This way, should someone decide to be an ass, ninja an item, or is just an outright horrible person, they can't freely just make a new character and try again. It'll cost them not only $3 or having to delete their current character, but they'll also loose all their hard-earned progress, and by FFXI standards, since you can be any job and do it all thats a ton of progress to lose. {Course there could be a possible name-change service in the future, making this not as harsh a penalty, but still; it'll prolly cost $10 to reset your reputation!}
In order for my wife to play , i ll need to upgrade, or buy a ps3 for her. I m glad the ps3 version is delayed, so I can see if the game is any good, by the pc players doing the beta testing it should still be on after september. Hell GW2 looks better overall anyways, but we ll see.

Nothing new. SE did the same thing when FFXI released. Anyway, the game looks great and I'm so pumped to finally play a real mmo again.

Found this while i was looking around:

They are saying the goggles dont do anything... dunno.
Pretty high system requirements, but im excited none the less.
I guess I need to start looking for a guild o_0

Holy shit, I'm happy... funny though, I tried running the benchmark, and halfway through it, my video card started messing up. Gotta get a new one!
Hmm.. sounds like about as many guesses as to what gets what and what does what as there are sites to post them.. lol
Guess we'll just have to wait until the official US site has all the info in english.

What can I say? HELL YEAH!
Who said i'm a geek?!
So they lied when they said they wanted a longer beta than FF11.
less than 2 months as opposed to the 7 to 9 they promised. Good news for us gamers i guess, however game will most likely be bug ridden.

only fools would think charging 3 bucks for each additional character is a good idea.
also...no jumping? i understand there is no content that requires jumping, but is there a reason other than that? high gravity?
IMHO if you spend money on this game, you are contributing to the de evolution of the genre, and the greed of the asians.
To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.
Sometimes it's not JUST about the job, but rather character creation, customization and naming, that's why some like ALTs!
