I haven't posted really at all in the Star Wars Forums. I tend to post in the forums in the game I am playing. I then normally post a review based on my beginning experience and then later after diving much further into the game. I was a closed beta tester for WOW, Lord of the Rings Online, and Warhammer. All I can say is that they have released VERY LITTLE INFO. The game still has a year to go. If I judged all 3 games I beta tested on what they looked liked and played like a year before they were released, I would have never paid one penny for any of them. Lord of the Rings specifically WASNT EVEN CLOSE to what it looked like at release and the performance was a nightmare. Granted, the animations still need much improvement, at release it was one of the most polished MMOs at release I had ever seen, with very nice graphics for an MMO. My point is that ANY conclusion at this point in time is a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. Rather then be a sad sack like most of those posting ridiculous conclusions in these forums, I tend to be cautiously optimistic until proven otherwise. Yea, I was let down with some games. However, despite that Bioware has never done an MMO, they have a huge budget, a slew of talented programmers and testers, and a history of qualtiy. If they fail, that will be a bad thing. I'm not drawing any conclusions until it is at least a month within the release date. Flame all you want. With some of you, you just can't win. Publish too much early information, then you whine that you were let down at release. Wait until it is appropriate to publish content, then you whine a year too early that unfinished code looks horrible and the game will fail. Grow up.

Well said. Too bad most people that are crying over every little thing on this board have ADD and will have problems reading your post due to the lack of paragraphing.
I would like all the naysayer the produce footage of any other MMORPG that was one year before release with this much info about it's content. Some people are totally oblivious.

No, I'm sorry we aren't allowed reality checks here. Rationality and reality have no place on these forums, you need to change the title to, SWTOR Smells Like Seaweed or something equally preposterous.
WOW? a year to go?
This game should be polished and shiney to the point of hurting right now! WTF? It is totally going to FAIL!
And still not in beta yet? What? Are they still owrking on voice over right now? Adding multi-language support or something? Do I have to press 1 for English?
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
I think there is a good year left until SWTOR is released. I will be buying it though.
I am likely to play LOTRO (lifer) AoC, TSW, maybe GW2 and SWTOR, should keep me busy

Yeah, there is a good year left before SWToR. I am enjoying the AoC expansion atm. I will most likely play the WoW expansion in the fall as well. So no worries here.
You do realize that while bashing people for posting specualtion you have done just that yourself?
Did you thump your chest after posting that?
Hope not
at most a year... the game is schedualed for spring.
Cool man. All grey stars even though you've been rather active. But all your posts are either spam or flames. I'll go ahead and report this one.
Hope your proud of how you present yourself on the internets. I hope it does not transpires to the real world or it might be vice versa. Bless you son.
Beta? It had one closed beta session so far for the "public". But as they stated, they are in beta, yes. But I haven't seen any other game that just entered beta that has released this much info about their game and had this good (synced) combat animations which seems to be what most people cry about.
People compare this game for months now to released games that have years on them, which are bad comparisons.

Read your own post out loud and listen to yourself. You are in so much denial. Why don't you back up what you say with facts instead of wild speculation?
There is nothing they can reveal at this point that is going to dramatically change the way people feel about this game. Either you like the idea of playing a pseudo-MMO or you don't - but what the game is won't change.
Yes because we are not allowed to have opinons based on what they have released. As that is totally unrealistic and unfair to BioWare. Never mind people might not like the game based on the fact of it having a certain art style, animation style, companions, way they handle the Republic/Sith faction, all other MMOs have 'no point, have 50 novels worth of text and voice overs.
Yes you are right, we should simply plop down 50-70 dollars for every game in existance so that way we can say, Nope dont like it. You ever just look at the outside of a car and say "Nah dont like it?" without taking it for a test drive? Thats about the same senseless flak that you are tossing into the air. Just like you posted your opinon of others, others can post their opinon of the game also.
This must be your first time monitoring the release schedule of an MMO. How many MMOs in the last 8 years stay are target almost a year out to the exact date they throw out there? The hundreds of testing cycles and the results of those dictate release dates (unless you are Star Trek Online lol). It is too early to post on your calendar anything.

Thats where I say DUH! You havent seen the game. You've seen VERY minor CONTROLLED pieces of an unfinished code. One that is meant to just show you some basics many of which are at very low level with few skills. I think things are going to improve over the next 3 quarters..again..based on the cycles of other games and where they were at the exact same point in time. Maybe you are in denial that this game is not the same as whatever other game tarnashed your optimism?

You obviously have no clue what a Software Development Lifecycle entails at various points in time.

No, I don't don't judge a book by the cover until I can see some finished pages in between. The fact that you do is probably why you are trolling.

Probably be out before you think it should or would.
When this game releases, it will have the exact same feel as you think it will have from watching the movies. I would like to point out that you say no one has played this and it is still early on in development. How do you know this? That is the denial I'm talking about. This game is NOT early on in development. It has some ways to go but the core game mechanics are already in. They wouldn't have announced it or started showing videos if they weren't past the first major milestone. What they are doing now is adding features and fleshing out the quests - NOT designing / implementing the core gameplay features. Yes, things will be tweaked but the essence of the game is set and they have shown more than enough for you to make up your mind about whether this game will be shallow like WoW (note: I'm not saying a WoW clone).
I loved Kotor 1 & 2 - but dumbing down the franchise with stupid WoW-style quest hubs is just a dumb decision. Either be a good MMO or be a good single player game.
Yes, from 3 minutes of video you should be able to tell how the entire game will play out. LOL! That's just fucking amazing.
I've followed the releases of many MMOs, there is nothing special about the amount of info released. Other than "there is a lot of KOTOR/ME-like story stuff" and some class info, we know very little about SWTOR. The videos released shed no more light on the gameplay than videos for Rift (about as far away) or even War40k which probably won't even launch next year. (I don't want to start a specific argument about these game, just talking about info quantity). Rift is a good example - they only started releasing info like 2 months ago and I probably know more about that than I do SWTOR.
The main issue with SWTOR info is that it's clearly marketing-driven. There is an obvious agenda to only talk about specific features and in specific ways. There are plenty of good reasons for this - for example AoC had a lot more info on what they were developing systems-wise, but then some of it changed or didn't make it into release, which created disappointment. I'm sure SWTOR is trying to avoid that.
As a player though, I don't particularly care about their selling agenda, I just want to know what the "MMO part" of the game is like. I've played enough BioWare games that I could have probably described SWTOR quest system with 90% accuracy without knowing anything other than who it's developed by. We get it: well-written story, choices, voice acting - cool stuff. We know it, we like it, we'll buy it. We'll also be done with it in about 2-3 weeks. We (I'm sure others share my sentiment) would like to know what else the game's got and of this, we have nothing but vague broad statements like "open zones, all that stuff, the game will have it". That's not really information.
I'm not even talking about specifics. If there is a smuggler class, tell me there is a smuggling system. I don't need to know what it is, but knowing it's there is interesting and tells me that I'll have something to do after I've saved the universe or whatever the story is. If there is a Bounty Hunter class, tell me there will be a bounty system that'll let me hunt players or NPCs. Telling me what a Smuggler or Bounty Hunter mean to star wars lore is not information, I could have read this off the back of a plastic cup at a movie theatre that has nothing to do with the game. (These are just examples btw, don't get attached.)

i usually don't look at games that aren't released. what's the point? i'll know everything about it once i start playing. i have loads of friends that pounce on every little bit of info released about this game and i just don't see the point. you either make up you're mind that the game is going to be awesome and hype it up or you decide it'll be crap and run around telling people how much it sucks. it's not out yet, how do you know if you like it or not?
It's a little bit more than three minutes but yes. You clearly haven't been into MMOs for too long so I'll use an example. Go watch a short WoW video - the game is pretty much the same exact stuff.
Here's TOR: cut-scenes, dialogue trees -> then you go out and kill a few baddies and return for your reward. Rinse. Repeat. Occasionally you get to team up with a few others and do a "dungeon" where you go to some ship that is under attack by the enemy and you clear out the ship and get some loot. In your downtime, you will craft a saber on your own ship and talk to your crew (much like any BioWare game). aaaannnddd that is it. I would revive this thread a month after the game comes out and most people quit because they beat it, but I probably won't care then.
Damn, if we were all as cool as you, we wouldn't have to waste our time even playing games. We could just watch 3 minute videos and get all we need!
Whatever floats your boat man. I'm just saying that you can tell what the game is going to be like already and it is not the case that the game is early on in development (hence no ones knows anything about it). If you honestly can't tell what this game will be like, then you are simply not paying attention.
Hmm... I wanted to participate in this thread.. but reading all the posts up untill this point... whats the use? Ill just be quoted and then taken completley out of context.
This thread needs pizza rolls. mmmmmm
