I am looking forward to this game, I will be buying it, but the CE package is really just lame...
In-Game Item – Collector’s Edition preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm.*
Woot. 1 helm. Great.
Early Access– Play 8 days prior to the release of the Windows PC Standard Edition (timing of access subject to initial server capacity).
Great, 8 days that won't matter in 1 month from now when everyone is equal anyhow.
Subject to availability ofc.
Behind the Scenes DVD – Get an insider look at the making of FINAL FANTASY XIV, with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD.
Which will be online for free 1 day after launch.
Security Token – A FINAL FANTASY XIV–branded Security Token for use with your regular password.
I don't even know what this is... not much of an incentive right now to buy.
Travel Journal – Record your travels in this beautifully bound journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art.
A book to write in...
Right of Passage – Redeem a voucher to receive your fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number.
Eh What?
Amano Cover – Special PC Collector’s Edition illustration by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano.
they are saying cover art is a feature?
Really, for the money, it's a sad package

I think it's great deal, personally. The best thing about it is that you don't have to get it if you don't find it worth it.
The security token alone costs 10 bucks or so. That makes it 15 bucks more expensive than the SE. Not too bad for it's price IMO.

dont likme it dont buy it
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
Oh dear God... you forgot about the skill googles, the CE also get those.
Beside, personally. I'd pay 30$ more just to play a week ahead of everyone. But I guess that's only personal preference when you have waiting for the game to come out for so long.
Actually, the week headstart is better than you would think.
The CE players can get ahead of the masses once everyone logs in on the 30th and low level areas are overcrowded by the masses. It'll be good leveling in some higher level area without having to deal with lag at that point.
Well, if you don't like it.... simple matter of not purchasing it. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will though, myself included. Also, since you don't think it's acceptable, in your opinion what would be?
Nope, thats a SE only item, and no you can't buy both and apply them to one account either! Its one or the other...period!
Are you sure about that? I mean technically you could buy the SE and CE versions for both?
The google are part of the normal package, a normal package is put inside the CE with all the other stuff to goes with it.
It was clarified on the official forums that I found the other day, although I don't have the reference right now, sorry.
Beside, google or not, helmet or not. It's only a slight bonus that won't last anyone very long, eventually we will all trade them for real gear upgrades.
It's a serial code you put in to receive the item, so you could get both if you want to.
Put you will have both in the CE package, like I mentionned in my previous post.
Being a fan of the Final Fantasy IP, and a friend to many others, this package is more than worth the extra dough.
I'm already planning on giving away a few of these goodies to some FF fanatic buddies.
The goods don't appeal to you? Don't buy 'em. Period.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?

"The community has been a little confused about the news yesterday and the difference between what in-game items are included (or not included) in the Collector’s Edition and the standard edition. We shot Square Enix a quick email to help clear the air. To put it simply, the Collector’s Edition only comes with the Onion Helm – it does not include the Garlond Goggles. We hope this clarifies things a bit for some people."
Sadly CE orders don't get the goggles after all.. but I don't think they will be used full time anyway...being only preoder items. Might help them catch up easier to the people who started 8 days ahead though.
I just don't understand why the europe gets an extra map and tumbler... xD
Unless SE is leaving other choices up to gamestop or amazon.
It's like a WoW authenticator.
I bought it, I rather like my novelty items :P
Was just about to post this!
That is really funny, you're complaining about one of the best features of the CE and you don't even know how great a use it has or what it even is...rofl
Aye, XI made use of security tokens as well lately. Just a device that randomizes a new 6 digit password every time for extra protection! It also allowed you to hold an extra inventory on XI.
Oh thanks for clarifying that. I guess my previous post was wrong.
Some people say that it's not included in the CE because it will give the SE people a "chance" to catch up to those who have been playing for a week already.
Also, I wish the CE came with the music album too...but I guess I'll just get the songs from dat files or whatever. : )
All I got from the OP was...
"I'm spending more money on the game, yet I don't have a permanent advantage over standard edition buyers. This CE sucks."
goggle
They do nothing?
Increases speed of skill progression.
Obviously to give the standard edition people a chance to catch up to the CE folks.
In-game items should never be the basis for spending more money on a game. If the Onion helmet and the Goggles are not replaced by Physical Level 10 with better equipment, then I will be completely shocked.
There has never been a collector's edition or pre-order reward that is useful at max level.
I'm personally getting the Collector's Edition for the security token, the art book, and the DVD. I could care less about the helmet.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
I rather like the fact that there's no huge in-game benefit for buying alternate editions of the game. I'm sad that I'll miss out on the bonus week, but I can wait. I wouldn't pay extra money for early access. Pre-order, sure. Pay more, no way.
Same here, especially with the security token, all in one package for me. (: *hands SE that paper* rofl
