"We got rid of the trinity." How'd you do that? "Now everyone can heal." Sounds like you just took the mechanic and spread it thin. "Well no, there's one class that can do it better than others." I see, so they're healers. "No. They're.." -mind asplode-

When they mention the "10 large areas" are they large areas like "Kalimdor" in WoW with multiple smaller areas in that or is it basicly "land/Large area 1 is Barrens Large land 2 is Shimmering flats etc?

Using wow to describe it as I just found it easer to give the jist of what  I meant.

If each area is like a whole continent with multiple smaller areas and towns and such inside it, then the load screens shouldnt ruin immersion to badly. But if its just one area is one land thats all....well yea I can understand concern.

Speaking of spells and magic. My one negative so far in the info on the game, having to monitor mana between aetherites. Really? No auto regen on all pools like health, stamina and mana? We don't even get a sit and rest ability like FFXI has, which by the way is old school. Modern MMOs have you regenning in between battles via food or just time and it's helped make them "flow" better IMO. If this is the case, I'm really glad I am choosing melee to start the game with so as not to be bogged down by micromanaging my mana pool.

So far, I think that's the only thing that sounds "bad" the rest I can't wait to play.

Also, a question about the class quests. Does that mean that each and every class has it's own storyline?

Obviously if you can't answer now due to NDA, save the answer for when the NDA is lifted. Thanks, and nice write up.

Oh yeah, well, I don't think the early spells in XIV will be anything really amazing or spectacular, that's something you'll see at a higher rank most likely. Since the rank cap in Alpha was 20, no one has gotten high enough to see how they look though!

The only pool without regen so far is mana. Stamina and HP regenerate at a fairly fast rate by itself, moreso depending on which stance you're in (passive/active).

The big catch in the system is to make you think about your actions because your decisions mean a lot more in the long run. If you waste that MP on the first fight, it's not coming back anytime soon. I don't think you'll have to carefully decide each action you do but generally you should be thinking about what you're doing.

It's the same case with TP, only in lesser extent. If you waste your TP on something useless, the fight may drag on longer and you won't be as effective. You are supposed to make decisions during the fight: 'should I use X or Y instead? What if Z happens?'.. Like that.

But what exactly the devs have planned, we'll see later on. This is the concept, execution is still a mystery.

As for the class quests, the Alpha only had very small sneak peek of the class quests (3) so it's impossible to say. I assume that classes are going to get their own quests later on like with XI, but now that is only an assumption.

While the reward for the leves is not EXP, it is an incentive to go out and do objectives while earning EXP at the same time. That's my take on it.

It gives quite a bit of flavor to the "kill X mobs to level up" structure and makes it seem more... meaningful?

Oh yeah, I'll edit in one more tidbit about leves.. the surprise element.

Loading times between zones? One of my biggest immediate turn offs for mmo's. It completely kills immersion for me and sadly its the sole reason I dont play AoC.

F this game im waiting for cataclysm

Hey! This person didn't follow the weeding process presented at the beginning of the OP, not fair! :p

     ITS NOT FAIR     WAAA

This game has loading times between zones????? Definetley not next gen, WTF is SE thinking?

It's been so long since I played WoW, it's hard to say.

Well, basically if there's a theme to one area (like a barren desert or a deep forest) that whole zone and the cities and dungeons located there are a "region". As the environment changes, you enter a new "region".

    I hope that explains it.

Im pleased to know that there is alot to this game, lots of different systems..housing...and selling your own stuff....sound like a fairly deep and immersive game.. i look forward to it.

Nice outline of what to expect, the effort is appreciated.

One question: is it known what the bottleneck is on the loading times (however long or short they may be)? Server-side? Client-side CPU? HDD? Or to put it another way, it is the sort of thing that a hardware upgrade/tweak has the potential to improve?

Do you know if there are more monsters than in FFXI ? That was the biggest turn down really to fight bats & rats just named differently at lvl 50...

If there's monster variety, then yay at this game, i don't care bout PVP got LoL and FPS for that...

    You're a Hardcore Survivor!

If they give gil or items then there is enough reward structure to mess with it. If this game actually has more quests in a similar vein to other MMOs (collect/kill) then perhaps with the right leves there would be a way to stack them further and get more out of it. Could work fine, but I need to read the OP as to how common quests from NPCs will be. My guess is more like the ones from the last game, and with some cutscenes.

~K, read it, and it sounds really cool. I would just figure that they will end up placing a marker that other players can see, so that your quest mobs don't just pop into existence.

LOL what a bunch of crap..sorry. This is the view of FFXIV through HIS EYES. What HE does not like. WHAT HE WANTS and its not even out yet. So saying you cant do this or you cant do that.. wait till LAUNCH then start you crying.

This must be the guy we always watched trying to PVP and lol so hard because he was JUMPING all over the place looking like a moron.. I could be wrong I guess... just playing its just typed words..

I think I'll just wait till it comes out.. buy it and play 30days.. if I dont like it I wont play. So far how many times have we read "its awful, its SUPER THE BEST NEW MMO EVER!" and then sucked..

People do this all the time..get a clue..

Awesome compilation of info. I have been watching this game more carefully since it was announced PC version was coming out not only first, but first by MONTHS. This gives me the feeling that it wont be like FF11 where it felt like a PS3 game thrown onto a PC with a post-it saying good luck, lol.

I pre-ordered this and hope it cures my MMO sickness so I can be done with Demon's Souls and League of Legends, lol.

I have heard that your HDD has an effect on the loading times, however I am not 100% sure on this. It would make sense though.

An SSD will likely improve the performance on that particular field. I am planning to get one for myself later on ;).

I think the important question here is if these different mob types are used more frequently.

Since unfortunately, crabs and the like are easiest mobs to target as far as exping goes. That didn't mean that there weren't an incredible variety of mobs out there, people just chose not to exp on them because they weren't "worth the effort".

To give you an estimate, http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Bestiary here are all the monster types in XI. Some are carried over to XIV, and on top of that there are many new additions as well.

And since right now the guildleve system tells you which monsters to fight on the field, it is up to SE to make sure that every mob type gets enough attention. Unlike in XI, the dev team has a far greater chance to manipulate what we'll be fighting and when.

So in conclusion, I think the situation will only improve a lot.

The maximum size in FFXI was 64 players. I am not sure if this is the case in XIV, but I think we can expect those kind of numbers for Companies at least.

Oh yes, another bit of info I'll edit in: It is quite likely that you can have as many Linkshells as you want, just like in XI.

    Amazing Post.

I must admit I am waiting on the Beta (after NDA) feed back before deciding if I am going to play the game, It looks amazing but something about the combat classes and how it all works out has me a little concerned we may see a lack of specialisation where everyone is either a wizard or a warrior. I think what they are doing could be very special I'm just not sure the list of choices is enough but come Beta when there is a better idea of what length can be gone to inorder to make my character unique and not have people chopping at rats with a sword then swapping to a lance to get max in every skill.

I think that's what happens, from my limited Alpha knowledge. As you engage the level mob, it pops for other players to see so it won't look like you'll be fighting.. air.

And that reminds me of another thing I'll need to edit in... ty.

I tried to do this as objectively as possible, but if you can tell me what I might have missed then I'd be delighted to hear.

As far as 'the test' goes, I'll gladly edit it if the developers change their mind. Right now I am simply echoing their statements.

Of course, I have my concerns too. It would be silly to think that they can get class balance in a game like this right off the start, but I think they have prepared good tools to work with. For example, simply by raising the "action point" cost for an OP ability or spell you can tone down it's usefulness without simply nerfing it's power.

    We'll see what happens.

Great post, particularly like your comments about jumping and PVP:)

I guess the question has to be asked, though, why does it fall to forum members to collate and publish this info only a few short months before release?

I haven't been on the website in a bit, but the last time I did...most of this info was not present.

Anyway, looking forward to the game. Sounds like there are a couple of interesting things in it.
