Ah, I see you got my point then. The point is that haters and fanbois are more alike than they think. However, not everyone is a hater OR a fanboi. Regardless of what the extremes think.
Agreed. I am hoping to see a third camp spring up so we have the Haters, the Fanbots, and the Realists.
See, three factions really IS better than two!
Absolutely (btw apologies for editing my post whilst you posted). Unfortunately extremes cannot see in shades of grey. Only in black and white.

To be honest, after watching the SWTOR forums for a few weeks, it seems however that theres certainly more haters than true fanbois. Yes, there are those who like Bioware and those who like Star Wars. But I've yet to see many posts (aside from a handful) that show the poster is 100% sure that SWTOR will be a success and couldn't possibly fail.
That's because those who are happy with the game don't have a reason to post. It's not that this place is full of "haters" but because the only one who have a reason to reply are those who have a different point of view.
Start a thread with perfect points. There are 2000 peoples online right now, I'm pretty sure that there will be one of them who doesn't agree with that thread and most probably that one will reply. Too many peoples = too many different opinions = too many qq. The fact that this forum is not the official forum of any game doesn't help either.

ALL forums / chat rooms have these issues......and rarely is it actually 100% about the game / topic on a whole.
We will call it the internet protection QQ, where anyone fan/hater/whoever thinks that they can say and do whatever cause they cannot be harmed in RL by said people. So they feel all mighty that they can bash/trash and smash thru the use of text anything to thier hearts desire. Alot of posters have nothing better to do with themselves other than constantly argue one point or another and have no basis of reason other than to "troll" goad or see how much reaction and attention they can draw to themselves.
Most of the comments about any game, specifically about SWTOR at the moment and now with WoW changes...have the normal two sides. But when you read deeper into the comments, or the constant same old comments just expressed in a different way or using false information or half information really just points the finger to the posters....."boredom / want to cause drama / attention to thier post so they can continue to post and get attention....wash/rinse/repeat"
Opinions are one thing, blind fanboism/hate is another, they are just games after all.....but some people dont have lives outside of said games.
You can please some of the people, some of the time..But never all of the people all of the time.
I'm not a member on the TOR site. I don't really follow it religiously. I've seen some of the gameplay videos / interviews / commentary. I've read about some of the classes available. I have to say, I am pretty damn excited about a new Sci-Fi MMO backed by a big name Publisher, an epic franchise, and a big budget.
Now, with that said... let's get onto the title of my thread.
If I want to be talked out of trying an MMO, I come here. If I'm particularly pissed off at Blizzard or WoW, I come here. There is enough misery here to fill an ocean with QQ. Now, there are exceptions to the rule. I've found some advice to be fair, honest, and interesting but that's the exception, not the rule.
That brings me back to TOR. For a game that's.. what? Is it even in f***ing Alpha yet? There sure are a lot of neighsayers and poop-bottom humbuggers. You haven't played it.. it's in development and probably wont' hit the streets for at least another 1/2 of a year yet you act like you single-handedly designed the f**king thing and have played it for years.
So to those who have spread their vile rhetoric about TOR the way a retarded kid spreads his own poop on the wall when left unattended for too long.. I say this... Smoke a bowl, get a BJ, and relax. It's not here yet.. until then.. lock the flood gates and quit making poop paintings on the wall. It's time for your meds.
Let's have that conversaion when this yet to be released, mega MMORPG, epic franchise, superb developer, epic publisher, and mega-budget game has hit the streets.
Peace out.
People who are excited about an upcoming game always complain about those who aren't. However those fans of the game forget one major issue that causes more vocal naysayers about a game, the over-hyped fan posts. It truly gets irritating to see a game that "Isn't even in f***ing Alpha yet" get posts by people saying "This game is going to be the best MMO EVAR !!!1!!1!1!" or "Here comes the WoW Killer !!!1!!11!!!!" etc. So when you keep reading ridiculous comments like that you now feel compelled to explain why this isn't going to happen, and to point out the major design flaws and issues with the upcoming MMO.
So to those who have spread their unfounded unreasonably high expectations, which they will then come back a month into the game and complain about how the game didn't come close to their expectations, I say this, relax, stop getting so excited about a game no one has had the chance to play yet, stop thinking the next MMO will be the next big thing, and stop acting like an 8 year old kid who hasn't learned how life really works so he gets ridiculous over-excited about everything that is to come, only to cry about it once it is here. And BTW your last sentence gives a good insight into the crap I'm talking about.

Forums are for PVP, learn to deal with it or go find a happy place to play in. These are games, we love to discuss, bash and troll about them, and if this doesn't appeal, then this is definitely the wrong place to be.
I find the community to be honest, and for the most part interesting, so here I stay. Heck, even the trolls make it entertaining.

I can understand the OP. I too think some people are way too negative and skeptical here. I mean, they bash a MMO even BEOFRE its released when they don't even know the game! Having your different taste is one thing, but some people make a crusade about their personal preferrences always posting why game XYZ sucks in every 2nd thread.
Why people make such an endless drama about their dislikes over months and years is beyond me. Don't like something? Fine. Don't play and move on. But it is outright pointless and annoying to repeat the same things over and over like a mantra.
People should be a bit more optimistic and less of the "glass half empty" mentality we can read here so often.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
If it ain't "innovative", it's a "WoW clone": Use as much generalisations a possible, to prove that its a "clone". This includes pointing out how the fact that the game has a functioning UI, quest system, storylines, PVP, or any other standard element that is traditionally expected in an MMO. Make claims how nothing is "innovative" anymore (regardless of evidence to the contrary), and when asked what exactly do you want in terms of innovation, reply with "I dunno, something 'new' and 'exciting'". If in doubt, either don't give an answer at all or use the tired arguments used in "sandbox vs themepark" discussion. Remember the mantra that only sandboxes can be "innovative". Everything else has been done before.
Save time, judge a book by its cover: Why bother waiting for launch when you can judge an entire product from just a small bit of information? Make the call NOW, make multiple posts about how you believe that the product sucks and theres no possibility of success because its a "clone" (see point number 1). Also, don't forget to use the phrase "You heard it here first folks!!"
If you aint a hater, then you're a fanboi: Label anyone who doesn't agree with you as a "Fanboi". This includes anyone who has shown a little concern for the product, but who still thinks it is too early to pass judgement on it yet. Don't forget to point out that such logic is flawed and that they are all idiots because even now they cannot see how it could possibly be a success based on the information currently provided (see point 2).
Recoil at any mention you're a hater: When other people call you a "hater" or a pessimist, act as if you've not done anything to earn that label. Use the argument that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, which is subject to change. Even though you have no intention of changing your mind. Don't forget that after pretending that the person is just trying to oppress opinions, call anyone who disagrees with you as a "Fanboi" (see point 3), because they refuse to see the evidence (see point 2), on how its a WoW Clone (see point 1).
Relieve your boredom by being a hypocrit: Visit the forum of the game you like, to post how it will destroy all competition with its awesomeness. Don't forget to label anyone who disagrees with you a "hater" and how they are blind to see the fact that it's guaranteed to succeed. Regardless of the fact that it uses variations of the same tried and tested formulas found in the games that you hate, and thus contradict the very arguments you use to hate them.
Why post just once, when you can post many times using the same argument? To prove that you're not as blind as the "fanbois", make sure that you make your same arguement known time and time again, regardless of the evidence which contradicts your claims. Remember the mantra: you're weak if you acknowledge your argument could be wrong.
Don't forget to visit other forums repeatedly (see point 6) to claim that other games are all "WoW Clones" (see point 1), and that the "Fanbois" (see point 3) are over hyping the game, so you feel the need to point out at this early stage (see point 2) that the game will suck. And if anyone disagrees, then they are just oppressing peoples opinions (see point 4).
Can we pls post this as sticky on top of EVERY forum in the whole internet pls?

If it ain't "WoW", it's "INNOVATIVE": Use as many generalisations a possible, to prove that its "innovative". This includes pointing out how the fact that the game has a DIFFERENT COLOR UI, VO quest system, MORE storylines, SHIPS, or any other standard element THAT MAY BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. Make claims how nothing is "like WoW" (regardless of evidence to the contrary), and when asked what exactly you see in terms of innovation, reply with "I dunno, it's just 'new' and 'exciting'". If in doubt, either don't give an answer at all or use the tired arguments used in the "IT'S SW and BIOWARE!" discussion. Remember the mantra that only BIOWARE can be this "innovative". Everything else doesn't matter.
Save time, judge a book by its cover: Why bother waiting for launch when you can judge an entire product from just a small bit of information? Make the call NOW, make multiple posts about how you believe that the product IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER and theres no possibility of failure because its a "BIOWARE GAME" (see point number 1). Also, don't forget to use the phrase "You heard it here first folks!!"
If you aint a FANBOI, then you're a HATER: Label anyone who doesn't agree with you as a "HATER". This includes anyone who has shown a little concern for the product, and thinks it is too early to PRE-ORDER THE $89.99 SUPER GOLD EDITION DELUX VERSION AND BH STATUE yet. Don't forget to point out that such logic is flawed and that they are all idiots because even now they cannot see how it could possibly FAIL based on the information currently provided (see point 2).
Recoil at any mention you're a FANBOI: When other people call you a "FANBOI", or overly optimistic, act as if you've not done anything to earn that label. Use the argument that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, which is subject to change. Even though you have no intention of changing your mind. Don't forget that after pretending that the person is just trying to oppress opinions, call anyone who disagrees with you a "HATER" (see point 3), because they refuse to see the evidence (see point 2), on how its in no way, shape or form anything like WoW (see point 1).
(I DON'T NEED TO CHANGE THIS ONE, IT ALREADY ILLUSTRATES MY POINT PERFECTLY!)
Why post just once, when you can post many times using the same argument? To prove that you're not as blind as the "HATERS", make sure that you make your same argument known time and time again, regardless of the evidence which contradicts your claims. Remember the mantra: you're weak if you acknowledge your argument could be wrong.
Don't forget to visit other forums repeatedly (see point 6) to claim that other games are all "INCOMPARABLE" (see point 1), and that the "HATERS" (see point 3) are JUST BASHING the game, so you feel the need to point out at this early stage (see point 2) that the game will RAWK ALL, AND BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN ANYTHING THAT HAS COME BEFORE IT. And if anyone disagrees, then they are just "HATING" (see point 4).
As you see, this can quite easily be reversed. How about we have less attacking of each other, and immature posts like this on both sides, and more of rational debate.
I'm not impressed by what I've seen thus far, but I still intend to give the game a shot once a free trial is released. BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH RIGHT NOW I'M NOT AT ALL IMPRESSED, I COULD CHANGE MY MIND ONCE IT'S COMPLETELY LAUNCHED AND I PLAY IT.
Yes Tarka you are not a blind fanboy of SWTOR. You just simply happen to respond to every single negative post in any thread about TOR.
You're not a blind sheep... it's just coincidence that 90% of your argumentation consists of "We don't know..." and "Bioware said...".
You are not a fanboy... you were so obviously jesting when you made claims that TOR has no fanboys only haters (btw i really loved that one) and that the official SWTOR forum posting is equivelant to Roman Senate debating in class and attitude towards the game so people here must be sewer inhabitants or other types of bottom feeders.
Hey ... it happens. It's ok. It might come as a shock to you at first... but it will pass. Look at it as if you are coming out of the closet.
Well, it's certainly the case that the number of 'haters' here are larger than the number of 'fanbois'. People are talking about not going with the SW:TOR hype, but if these forums are any indication then I'd say it's more the case of an anti-hype.
I can understand if people are disappointed by what they've seen so far from SW:ToR - tastes differ, plus there were some things like the graphics that I was disappointed about too. I just wish that people would use less gut-feeling assumptions continuously in their anti-SW TOR posts.
It's those farfetched assumptions that some people use to make their case that really boggle my mind: SW TOR will be a single player game, SW TOR will fail because Bioware has no experience with MMO's, the worlds will be really small and all instanced, SW TOR will have nothing new at all to offer, most of the budget went to voice acting, Companions will completely replace team members... really. Mindboggling.
Some people seem to be determined to hate SW:ToR first and opinions and arguments that support that view will come after.
Luckily it becomes somewhat less the more information is revealed.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
The problem is with atleast 80% of the haters here are still going to end up buying the game. Even I am considering buying it and I dont like sci-fi or star wars simply because I know tons of people are going to play it.
You do have to admitt Cyphers, that if you re-read the old companion threads in this forum and review what information we have on them now most original concerns (and i am saying concerns not the COMPANIONS WILL REPLACE EVERYTHING OMG type arguments) are coming close to being realised.
1) Companions usable everywhere (Open world PvE , PvP, Instanced Story line mode) therefore breaking immersion since the chance of having people with the same companion aroud you becomes quite high: Confirmed. James Ohlen E3 Interview
2) Companions capable of replacing party member roles which would harm group play: Confirmed. Daniel Erickson Darth Hater E3 Interview
3) The don't use them if you don't like them argument: Countered by James Ohlen himself in his E3 Interview to IGN.

Yea, you're right. Let's just delete the whole section and never talk about the game until it's released. Wait, let's tell the SWTOR devs not to ever release any info at all until the game is ready and we can check it. Nobody has ever to talk again about this game until we all have played it for at least 6 months, to be on the safe side.
You do have to admitt Cyphers, that if you re-read the old companion threads in this forum and review what information we have on them now most original concerns (and i am saying concerns not the COMPANIONS WILL REPLACE EVERYTHING OMG type arguments) are coming close to being realised.

Well, of course, people having reasonable misgivings based upon what they've seen so far, I find nothing wrong with it. But I can recall people like Bobbadudd and others like him being so sure and adamant that Companions would come in place of team members and that it was a sign of SW:ToR being a singleplayer game, it was that kind of attitude that you also saw a lot around that made me shake my head a lot.
It's as if they first determined from gut how SW:TOR would end up to be, and only then they'd start looking for any evidence or arguments that would support that gut feeling.
About the Companions:
1) I can understand how people can feel that it breaks immersion when seeing the exact same compantion with someone else. But Bioware devs also stated this clearly:
Companions will be able to be customized so that everyone will not be running around with the same Wookiee template etc PC Gamer UK April 2010
2) It's all in the eye of the beholder, I think. I read it as an improvement, the Companions being able to support a group in several aspects. Like when your group has 2 tanktypes and 1 dps type, then you don't have to wait and look for a healer to join up as you have to do in a lot of current MMO's. Also you don't have to refuse guildies or friends because they aren't a healer, but you can just let anyone join and decide with eachother to bring their Healing-type Companions.
In my view I find it an improvement, making teamplay a lot more flexible.
3) That I didn't understand what you meant with it.

That's a good point on 2) that you make. You are right, it does make it more flexible from that perspective.
Wish they would have opted to achieve such flexibility and variety through a more classless-like or skill-class hybrid system... rather than through companions but that's just me.
Ignore 3) it was simply referring to a silly counter argument that was made by fans against the companion nay-sayers arguments.
As being a TOR downer I can explain reasons why I say the things I do.
First being that people are overhyping the game. I understand its Star Wars and its Bioware but come on, people claim its going to be good before its even out and thats just as annoying as people saying its going to suck before it comes out.
Second is people claiming that TOR will be good ONLY cause its Star Wars and/or being made by Bioware. SWG wasn't that good and Bioware has never made a full blown MMO before. People just need to calm down about saying how good this game is going to be and people wont complain so much.
Third is that games I look forward to get negative comments from people who havnt even tried it and it gets old when the game you want gets bashed on for no reason yet people are hyping a game for little to no reason for it other then the IP and company making it.
Fourth is cause I am bored.
Okay... I don't mind people having their opinions about not liking it for whatever reason, but this is one reason that doesn't make any sense, and I'm tired of seeing.. and I've seen it WELL over 25 different times. A company doesn't have to have made an MMO before to be able to make a successful one. All the companies that have made mmo's before and keep releasing new ones make all the crappy MMO's that are flooding the market. Blizzard has only made ONE MMO ever... and that one mmo has changed the face of the genre, and has held the number one spot for 6 years and running like it or not.
All of the companies that have released an MMO before, CAN'T seem to learn from mistakes. It seems more likely that a company freshly jumping in, with a focused vision, has a higher success rate of creating an ongoing game because those companies i.e. Blizzard/Bioware are making one main mmo, and concentrating on that ONE to refine it and make it as good as they can possibly make it. I know SWTOR isn't out yet, but I have a feeling that Bioware isn't going to have the mindset of making a new MMO right away, a la NCsoft, and they'll continue to refine, and support this one for a long time coming. (Blizzard is now working on a second mmo, we all know this, but when they were making WoW, that was all they were thinking about and focusing on)
As you see, this can quite easily be reversed. How about we have less attacking of each other, and immature posts like this on both sides, and more of rational debate.

I blame testosterone, anonymity, bad days, and the inability to relate to people face to face.

Though every now and again, people come when they are zen, and the posts are occasionally transcendental.
Everything would be much better on these forums if everyone's real name was visible when they posted.

Can we pls post this as sticky on top of EVERY forum in the whole internet pls?

The problem is with atleast 80% of the haters here are still going to end up buying the game. Even I am considering buying it and I dont like sci-fi or star wars simply because I know tons of people are going to play it.
Speaking of companions.

RealID Inc here OH GOD!
