while this game is fun and all i do admit it moves slow in the higher levels....
i bought this game over christmas break from school and played it non-stop cause i had nothing better to do and it was fun getting a level ever hour or two but now it's to the point where it takes 4+ hours to get a level and that my friends is not fun...i've started leveling all my lower level jobs but they all need equipment that is highly priced or i need a higher level with my main job to camp the mob that drops it...it's also making me broke(in game) becuase you have to be one of 5 or 6 different jobs in order to get an invite to a party even though other jobs are more fun. I personally chose to be a rng but the ammo for that job is outragously expensive higher level and you can spend up to 300k in gil a level towards the end game to get your arrows/bolts/bullets. I'll tell you all now if you're not a Paladin, Red Mage, Black Mage, Ranger, Bard, or White Mage you will not get invites towards your end game......

While that is true, any MMORPG would flop without the battles and lvling in some form. Besides, can you imagine a Final Fantasy without battling? No. It can't be done.
if and only if your are a true RPG person. This game gives it to you. From the character's well being to every thing. This game is worth it, and all the other FF games. But i can say it was not a good as FFX which had a whole lot of cinematic features in it
I have played this game for a long time. Played through till the end game events as well. When i was getting this game i thought it was going to be a great experience, like ff tactics but online and kick ass with ur friends. This game is just not like that though. This game has potential but square didnt think this game through and i believe they ended up half assing it. I mean like... the starting of this game was fun and memorable to me. But then its party and get exp, this game is basically spend shit loads of hours and get a party and get crap exp, takes way too much time and such little reward. The job class system i thought was great, just like their previous games but they ended up even messing up the jobs. I'll name a few and their problems. Such as ninja, in this game they have them as what we call tanks which take the damage and keep the others safe. But they left out the damage for them, even Paladins. So much for holyness XD. Hell even Red Mage is different, they introduce the "refresh" system and make red mage take on this duty. They lost their power of melee even strong magic. Summoner is another problem, not being able to deal damage even at 75 which people say they are great. I had summoner and its not great its a disapointment! So much time spent in that job too... Basically this party system square has put into this game is horrible! You have to have certain jobs to make the decent party to get the such crap exp. Everything moves so slowly, its a waste of time. Of course you should have like ur tank style person in your party to take all the blows and a healer of some sort. But this game is insane! You need ur healer/tank/refresher/2 melees/and ur nuker i mean common this is another reason why it takes so long to get anywhere in this game. When i logged in the game i would think all right lets see... what can i do, the answer is nothing. You should be able to have fun and exp with whoever, not spend countless hours waiting for a certain job. The PvP system in this game is garbage as well, hell it almost seems like a quest in some ways. All you do is exp and if you are lucky you get into a linkshell in the end game and you camp 1 monster that will pop once a week fighting over it with 10 other linkshells. The supply and demand in this game is out of control. Hell the economy is insane, and getting your hand on money in this game is hard to find. I saw a few people say that everyone looks alike and yes thats true. You need to be able to solo in a game for it to work, and there is no way that is possible in this game. Dont give me crap about how rdm can solo... thats garbage. They kill something way tougher than them but takes so long and just wastes more time in exping. Beastmaster "the only solo job" what is this? This shouldnt be what makes this job different from the other... it should be a job that can kick ass with their pets. I mean common square you are the guys who makes the games be creative. I like to say that there are none or few abilities in this game that are "real abilities". All melee jobs are the same nothing seperates them from each other expect defense wise, shadows and the few real abilities. The melees use their certain weapon and all do about the same dmg. Like drk with scythe/great sword war with the axes and so on. Common give this game some real shit like make dark knight go all crazy and have abilites sucking life not no bs magic spell called drain. Wheres the real shit. The system in this game is just bad, hell even the lag is horrible. Some 1 perviously stated that the time zones are far and yes i know that, i called a gm before and asked if the lag would ever be fixed and possibly servers be placed over here in the future, he said "there is no lag difference". Which brings me to another disapointing factor in this game... the service! Horrible!!!! Square obviously doesnt care about complaints, as long as they are rolllin in the cash they wont do shit. I have finally had it with this game and quit. There is much much more problems but obviously i cant name them all. I would not recomend this game and if anyone wants an online game such as this one i would say try WoW or even Guild Wars. Some 1 stated that the pros in this game out weighs the cons... well thats false. Like i said this game has potential, but just does not deliver. Graphics are awesome but guild wars beat this game in that category XD the story is not so great, it's too choppy and spaced too far out, lol most the time through this game you dont know whats going on u just look for a party and exp XD. FFXI is the worst MMORPG in history. Terrible UI, lack of mob variety, you kill the same things for the entire game for the most part, Char creation blows, too much of the weapons and armor looks the same, I must have seen 1000 other people who looked EXACTLY like me. I could go on and on. I still rue the day I wasted money for this POS game.

Yep. A game with more subscribers than EQ had at its peak is "really hurting". A game that is behind only WoW and Lineage I & II in subscribers is "really hurting." Sure. Whatever.
FFXI is a great game, don't let anyone fool you. It is a difficult game that can be fustrating depending on the people you group with. Things have to be done right or you're doomed. You need a guild (linkshell) or you will be forced to level up with random people and sometimes it turns out well but sometimes you want to kill them all. Anyway, if you are hardcore, this game is great, if you aren't try WoW (very fun.)
yup. In fact a lot of them can speak English, but don't because they feel that they will embarrass themselves. In reality, the average Japanese citizen probably speaks better English than most inner city youths in the US. I wish the whole face and dishonor thing didn't exist. I'd love to be able to communicate with more Japanese. I have a lot of European friends on teamspeak. Japanese friends would be a very welcome addition. I know a lot of you are top notch gamers.
Hint to Japanese players: if we live half way around the world, and it's in a private chat window, no one will ever find out. If they do, #2 on them.
just bought the game today, never even thought i would end up playing it. after a year of wow im ready for anything. i dont really have a prob with not knowing or other people know diff languages.
emotes go a long way in these type of games. played all the asian mmos out there and am used to it.
grinds? i hear this one has quite the grind. would you guys think it is worse or better than L2?

On paper, much less. But the simple fact that you can't solo past lvl 10 (unless you become BST) means that the process of gaining exp takes much, much longer. The average mob is so much more overpowered than the average mmorpg. You need a FULL party to be effective, and each individual has their role to play.
I love the game, in fact I just resubscribed. Though many become disenchanted about waiting for hours to get in pts at the higher lvls, guilded or not.
The actual grind is probrably, IMO, much less than L2. FFXI has an epic storyline to participate in, as well.

hmm, if people can't take honest criticism then probably a bad idea to read anything in general. and as a player of ffxi, i think i have a right to say what i think is wrong with the game, and as i have also played in most of the other mmorpg's that are out today, including a few that are no longer going. then i think i can say how i think they compare, in the end its my own opinion. whether you listen to it or not is up to you. peoples opinions may differ, as may their experiences within the game, unless your a complete fanboi that exists only for the game, then you should understand and accept that.

well i didnt really mean to say that you couldnt say what you dont like about the game. I've noticed that there are several WoW players that just come in here and bash on FFXI, even when they haven't even played the game themselves. I personally find the entire WoW community immature. And it's not just here that these WoW players do this, they go in several other forums as well and bash on the other games for no real reason at all. What pisses me off the most is that they haven't even played any of the other games, besides WoW, for more than 5 minutes. That's immature. They should just shut their mouths and keep to their own game.
I have played EQI(5 yrs), COH(1.5 yrs), SWG(1 yr), EQ2(6mos), EVE(3mos), COV(1 month),Horizon(1 week) and AO(3mos).
all these accounts are still open except (EQ2, EVE, Horizon) and SWG is soon to be closed and that one really is a sad thing.
And I would say the FFXI is a good game indeed. If you want to compare MMORPGS, if you have played others, then you can always find something you like better in one or the other.
Like:
EQ's - AA's, Alternate Ability points. These give you abilities and stats beyond the normal you would recieve at MAX level.
SWG(pre NGE) - Hybird Class and the best crafting system ever. You can place havesters and factories, so you dont have to do abunch of repeating of the same actions. Also, the crafting has an experimental aspect that allows the same items to have different stats depending on the quality of resources used and the experimental level and results of the crafter.
AO - Character progression, your race makes to easier to progress in some areas but you can progress in any area you want.
But, FFXI has the Job's system. Where you can have a secondary job with your primary. This gives Melee a healer or range attack, Mage a Melee attack or heal, White Mage(Healer) a choice of attacks(Range or Melee), ... etc. And when you change jobs you dont lose the levels from the previous jobs(aka: SWG). I have only played FFXI for a short time, but after the UI curve I think we all agree that UI is a rough one, the game is FUN. I use FFXI config and set my graphics, so they are on a par with SWG or EQ I would say there is very little difference. MMORPG are more than just FLASH to me. If you want little depth and FLASH/FAST combat COH/COV is my choice, it is a good game also. But if you want a MMORPG that will emerse you in a world and take you quite awhile to complete, I think FFXI is going to do it for me. I do like depth, but then I am an adult. I can leave the 2month, FLASH BANG games for my children to play.
