I am newish to my latest mmo (8 months) but have played many mmo's from UO onwards. I have noticed for my current game (AoC) there is a dedicated loosely grouped of disgruntled haters for it. To quantify; there are problems with AoC as there are with all mmo's however I am personally having a blast and have experienced (before anyone moans) level cap, raiding (to T3) and PvP (which does need work).
The people come and go (not much) and their names are not important but they appear to be obsessed with putting a game down and going out of their way to do it that it must stop them finding and playing a game they do like.
My two questions to you are:
Does this happen for all mmo's? (I'n guessing it does).
Why do people who not like a game complain a bit (which is to be expected) and then leave to find a game they do like?
Cheers - Madz

It's because forum trolling > playing a game.
Entertainment is wherever you can find it, and some people just enjoy causing strife more than anything else.

Why do you care.
People invested time in a game, they get mad, they post it, they stop caring and they move on. Some just take longer than normal, but eventually they move on.
They have no lives.
Really, thats the only answer, why else would people rage about a game they havnt played in a potential of 5+ years? no lives.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"

Whining about whiners = you do have a life? Gotcha!
Why do you care... enough to post in this thread?
Well done, you brought nothing to the discussion. Possibly you have the potential to become someone such as I was originally talking about...
Why are you whining about him whining, this is too ironic.

WoW destroyed SWG, EQ1, and DAoC among others. It continues to pull people away from other games as well.
.
SWG was losing 10,000 subs a month to WoW, EQ1 lost 250,000 subs to WoW almost overnight.
.
WoW forced sony to implement the NGE, it caused DAoC to introduce the catacombs expansion, expansions that many say ruined those games.
.
People have good reason to hate WoW, if they loved those games.

Cause MMOs used to be good, now they all suck and we hope they will get better and stop cloning WoW.
This is a good point. The Mortal Online forum here is a great example of a few dedicated, dare I say, trolls who really go out of their way to bash the game.
When someone is saying something negative continuously we really need to look at what is said and how it is said, after all a clear opinion of why something is bad is perfectly acceptable and most especially when someone is putting that information out there to warn others. For example, I'm really not a fan of World of Warcraft because of what Blizzard has done with it in at least the past year, have some problems with Final Fantasy XI, am no fan of the SOE Station Cash idea and am on the fence with wanting AION to collapse in the West because of the botched job that NCSoft did with it. Now, the games I've listed (and Everquest II from SOE) are either really fun or look rather fun, I have nothing against the games and I'm sure that well-intentioned trolls don't either. It's just that the publisher made stupid decisions of varying degrees and the well-intentioned trolls conflate the game with the publisher while people wanting to build community in some real way think the information needs to be passed on. Posting these opinions in forum conversations that they would fit in is perfectly acceptable, jumping into as many conversations as possible about them isn't and neither is going pixelated with nerd rage.
To answer the OP simply: (1) yes it does, no matter how popular the game is or is not and (2) some people have nothing better to do than spew vitriol while others, in a genuine attempt to form, sustain and help communities, want to inform others about the problems they are likely to encounter.
(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain.
(2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.
This. For my part, im often been called hater on Darkfall subforum and why? Because ive seen flaws and pointed them out which i have experienced while playing. (Be prepared to grind your brain dead, be prepared to roam around for a long time to meet somebody.)
That reason enough for fanboy to harrass me with haters and start crusade against me and every my post, although i aswell admited that there are good parts in the game.
But the question is would so called "haters" be moving on faster if the fanboys wouldnt defend the game "die hard way" ? The usual point the say is, its all your fault that games got flaws ---> for us there aint flaws ---> its perfect and such statment calls for so called "haters" to start reaction on such pots.
So haters <-> fanboys and both cant exist without each other ;-)
Btw welcome to MMO market OP. And yes such things exist since MMOs exist as people tend to have different opinions and tastes. If you cant accept different opinions be prepared to having hard time in forums.

I think MMORPG should introduce realID, that'll curb some of the hate.
+1
I think it's more comments like these and the sense of gloating behind it, that makes people really annoyed to the point of hating the WoW fan(boi)s. Especially if the exact same comments keep being repeated hundreds of time by the same people again and again.
Then again, maybe that's exactly the purpose that the posters of such comments try to achieve: to aggravate, to enflame, and to gloat.

Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I thought that too, but for a number of people that's not the case, some haven't moved on for years.
To the OP: for AoC, it can be easily determined, namely the disastrous launch 2 years ago.
In general. you'll always have people who genuinely believe a product is bad or has flaws and they want to expose them, and the more other people will only stress the good aspects of a game/company or go with the hype, the more they will do their best to highlight the bad aspects, because they feel those are underappreciated.
In the case of AoC, you'll also have the effect of the launch debacle: there was a lot of hype, and when AoC launched as it was a lot of people felt betrayed and lied to by Funcom. For a number of people it seriously damaged their belief in the MMO market and in what game company representatives are saying about their game, to the point that a lot of these people are saying 'never again'. Never again believing any hype, never again trust what company reps are saying about their upcoming game, never again believe in a MMO game before it's released, never again trust Funcom.
Sure, a lot of people move on, just as when people have experienced a bad breakup they also don't suddenly decide to never fall in love again or never trust women again.
But a handful of people have made it their mission to discredit the game and the company as much as they can, because of the 'hurt' it gave them and the loss of trust. They consider it payback, and some consider it a righteous crusade, helping in making the game and the company look bad in any way they can, they use truths, half truths and outright lies for it if needed. The goal justifies the means.
What those people haven't learnt is 'to let go', and they haven't realised that games as well as companies aren't purely bad or 'evil', but that they change as much as everything else in life. In a way, they're stuck in the past.
In the case you mentioned in the OP it's AoC and Funcom, but it applies as well to SWG NGE debacle, SOE, STO, WAR, Mythic, Cryptic, you name it.

Every poster who supports this concept should be signing their posts with their real names, or otherwise, they're being hypocritical in their support.
But that was off topic.
1) Forums are for PVP, get used to it, haters are going to hate.
2) Haters enjoy what they do, its either entertaining or just a cause they feel is worthy of pursing. (the complete and utter destruction of an MMORPG or game company. Don't laugh, there are dumber causes, look at Peta)
3) Yes, every MMO made has a huge section of haters, from MO to WOW.
4) Every MMO has a huge section of Fanbois who unreasonably promote their favorite game despite its obvious flaws. OP is such a post.. Not saying AOC is a terrrible game these days, but keep in mind even the worse games (which MO might qualify for, I dunno) has supporters who stick with it until the doors close.

I wouldn't just start calling people 'fanboi' just like that, like you do with the OP.
There's a difference between fans and fanbois.
To me, fanbois and haters are essentially the same, people fall in one of these categories if they're unable to acknowledge arguments or aspects from the other side: haters can't/won't acknowledge any good aspects of a game or company, fanbois can't/won't acknowledge any bad aspects of a game or company.
Their viewpoints are extreme and even more, rigid: there's no balance or moderate in it.

The mere fact the OP created a new thread supporting a particular game and decry's those who criticize it marks him as a fanboi in my book.
Despite my post count, not one of them started a thread to do such a thing, despite my obvious love of certain games. (and yes, I could be called a fanboi at times, name doesn't bother me)
Also, not the first time this complaint has come around, won't be the last.

Typical, short sighted reply.
I wasn't supporting a partular game, I mentioned that I have just started playing AoC 8 months ago and although it does relate to that game (as an example) as I said I believe this affects mmo's in a wider sense and I invited some opinions on it.
To be honest your post kind of proves my point and what does posts counts have to do with it?
