Let me see if I understand your implication. In WoW you only find other players in certain areas?? That is what you wrote in your offhanded way.
Man that would be a real shocker to the 11+ million people playing the game. Now I would agree with you about WAR or AOC but those are only 2 mainstream MMORPG's that I know of that seem rather deserted.
Deserted now.. but not during the first week of launch. Same with Aion. It was packed... then big chunks (say 40%) of the players leave after a month and it's not so packed. Rinse and repeat.. go back in 6 months and servers are deserted and needing to be combined. What do you do when you only have one server though? Nothing to combine...
Well.. first you probably discount the game to try and get more players. Then you likely start free trials. After that it's anyone's guess.
MO was 'deserted' (that is, fewer than average players) for about 5 days, which coincided with an American holiday weekend. Populations are back to around where they were the first weeks again.
A discount isn't a sign of failure; CCP is selling licenses for EVE at 15 bucks now (used to be 50), is EVE also dying?

Really? CCP lowered their price within the first few weeks of launch? I didn't know that.

They might have for all we know. The point is, EVE is now discounted 70%, so by your logic that's CCP's desperate attempt to save a sinking ship.
That's not the case of course. There's more than one reason to discount a game over the summer, why wouldn't SV make the same business decision that CCP and countless other MMO's made over the years?

...and...?
Is EVE dying because it's old and cutting it's price to a fraction?
Hell, it makes MORE sense for SV to give a discount; EVE is a tried-and-true MMO that doesn't need to attract customers... MO is less than a month old and unheard of by a good chunk of it's potential player base. Stop trying to spin a 20% discount into a harbinger of death.

You keep mentioning Eve. Eve was revolutionary for it's time. That time was 7 years ago. It brings a LOT to the table including an incredible economy.. and 10s of thousands of players (30k+) on the same server.
For every Eve success story there are a hundred (number pulled out of my butt) failures. One does not normally discount a product 4 weeks after launch unless either it was mispriced at start or demand is lower than expected. One of the two preceding statements is true.. or both.

You're claiming that MO's discount is an indication of failure. I pointed out deeper discounts from successful games. My comparison is valid.
EVE discounted their game 70%.
SV discounted their game 20%.
Games get discounted during the summer due to decreased demand. The problem is you're claiming this is indicative of SV's poor performance, when it's merely indicative of trends in the industry.

Again.. you are comparing apples to oranges. Eve and MO are not comparable except in the very broad classification that they are both MMOs. Eve launched 7 years ago. Most product lifecycles assume a discount are various stages. Once of those stages is normally not 4 weeks after launch. To claim that this is the norm for a successful game seems to stretch credibility, but if you have a list of game that recently launched (say in the last year) and discounted their price by 20% within the first month but are considered successful I am willing to take a look.

Eve has been out how many years?
Name just one other MMO that discounted its game 1-month after release?
Look, the last poll from a few days ago indicated 40% of the players were not going to renew. With this most recent news of the Steel exploit in existance for up to 3-weeks, I'd be surprised if that number doesn't grow larger. SRV needs money and makes no excuse for this fact. The reason for lowering the price is because they needed to. It's ok, you don't need to make it feel better. Either SRV will get what's required to continue working on the game or they won't and no amount of sugar coating the reality is going to alter the outcome.

I'm getting dizzy arguing in circles, so I'll stop here.
But just a heads up, the dev company is "Star Vault"... so it's just "SV", not "SRV".
Even that you have to argue, but worse, again you are wrong. It's semantics and just as many people use SRV as SV. Go do a search on the official forums and spend your day parsing the results.

The only person I saw using "SRV" was you, as "gratus". Are you really gonna argue that "SRV" is an equally valid way to abbreviate "Star Vault"? Come on , i wasn't even looking for an argument here.
Myrland, a 64km2 continent. Isn't that simular to the size of WoW exluding Northrend? Correct me if im wrong.
WoW's world without Burning crusade AND northrend, is about 200 km²...with all the extentions, its around 400...not exactly the same size.
MO's world is tiny, and not only is it tiny, but its also empty. The only places that somehow look like you're in a real game are cities, perhaps the 2 dungeons. The rest is just poygons and repeated tiled textures.

Pretty sure theres just the one "dungeon" that was added a few weeks ago...

This is an example of an inaccurate poll based on wrong sample population. Why? Well people who have already stopped playing or plan to stop playing will have much less reason to visit the forums than people who are playing and plan to keep playing.
So in other words that poll does not accurately reflect the current subscriber base (both those that have cancelled and those that have not).
I for one would be very surprised to see this game retaining more than 25% of the subscriber base. The game is far too unstable and incomplete for most standard MMOG players (yes even sandbox MMOG players have standards...).
This poll has 178 votes and shows that 68.5% will be renewing tomorrow, hmmm seems the world will not become dead afterall. May MO live to see another day.
From all the 1000 costumers...650 will keep paying for a alpha testing..nice.
I hope in a near future some kind of action is taken against these indy companies releasing really really poor quality alpha stage products to public without consequences.
The mmorpg industry needs legislation working, or else next we will see indy companyes releasing an engine, and asking costumers to code the game..and pay to do so...

Basically you have the "risar dungeon" which you can't even play because framerate will drop too low. And you have the spider cave.
That's about it.
Yeah... calling this game "Dungeons Online" is ridiculous if they're only gonna ha....
...wait.... the game isn't centered around dungeons.... because not everyone gives a damn about linear PvP...
Apparently not everyone gives a damn a about a working game without game breaking bugs.
