I love alting, but I love alting to play a different class. S-E lets you play a different class on the same character. I remember my short stint in FFXI. It was easy and quick to swap to another class and the only real limitiation was well I had to store the gear for the new class. I did not have to log out.

Now I understand many people have friends, family, and lovers use the same account. But is 3$ so much to ask? Even in the MMOs where you have 9 character slots, they will be taking one of your character slots and thus reduce the number of alts (or classes) you can play. Unless they went to another server and the game allowed the cap per server. I admit, the cost did not go up, but is 3$ really that much. It is far less than paying 50$ and a new subscription fee.

Also, most MMOs are 15$, this one is 13$ (I always penny up), so having a second character is only 16$ total. A single 1$ higher than other MMOs, Is 1$ so much to ask. I am aware it is still 3$ over the base price. However, every person that buys the game and wishes to share their account with a family or loved one, only needs to pay 3$ for each extra player. S-E is still a business, it does have a right to make money on such endevours. In short what I am saying is... no freebies.

What would be greedy is if you can only play one class per character and then charged you 3$ for each additional character. Then you have a real reason to flail angerly at the greedy corporation. But this model exists in the context that a single player only really needs or should want 1 character.

mmhmm and pvp as an afterthought?  I mean lvling and raiding is fun and all that but isn't the main reason for doing it is so that you can get better gear to battle your fellow players with?  Maybe that's just me?  and no jumping/swimming either?  come on even super mario can jump/swim dude.  it may not be "needed" for game play but it makes me feel like i'm actually in the game and not sitting at my keyboard playing a game.   Mmo's nowadays need to go above and beyond what is "needed".  loading times between zones? boooo.....   And charging for more than one character slot?  What if i want to play a different race?  What if my wife who's not hardcore wants to use my account to play her own char a little?  I could what if on that subject all day.  Don't get me wrong I have always loved the FF games but i thought at FFXI was an abortion and it looks like we might need to take another trip to planned parenthood with this one too.  I'll be playing swtor instead bye bye.  image

That dude needs to learn how to jump too lol.  But seriously that by itself isn't really a game breaker but it adds to realism and it would be nice if you could do it.

lol i have a great mental image on him wheeling around on a rascal with a O2 tank gun draw with the laser sight and all that hehehe.

That's what it comes down to, yeah.

Would definitely be nice to have 4 expansions worth of content at the release too :(

Hyanmen, are you allowed to say how many skills we can have equiped at one time? I may have come across a spell list and I'm toying around with the idea on paper of having something like Marauder that borrows a lot of skills from other classes to resemble a DRK. :3

    *edit - typo.

As your class rank goes up, you get more Action Points and can equip more skills.

Later on I'm sure you can make pretty much what you want to. Not initially, but as you get stronger it's definitely possible.

I am extremely excited about this game. FFXI was probably my favorite MMO of all time, and I am dying in anticipation for this one. Reading all this news made me even more excited, I am even buying a PS3 just to play this, well... that's a major factor of the purchase, but not the only reason. Anyways I do have a question, if you chose a disciple, say Magic, and you want to be a warrior class of some sort, is there penalty for that. Like say I decide to put on some heavy armor type a sword and a shield, do i just change to that class with no penalty like in FFXI or will I be weaker than those who chose Disciple of War?

Yeah no penalty. However. as you can allocate your stats, you might be marginally weaker as a warrior but marginally stronger as a mage.

Ah that makes sense. Yeah I am indecisive which to be, I am considering pursuing mage though. Alrighty then. Thanks! :)

I am really looking forward to seeing how the armory system pans out.  Reminds me of FF7 where each character was stronger in certain aspects but depening on the materia equipped, you could really create some versatile pary line ups.  Most games are either purely class based or purely skill based and this seems to be a good common ground of the two concepts.

The guild leve system sounds like the Moblin Maze taken further conceptually.

SE knows how to manage a MMO (hence FFXI still going very strong and getting great bits of content still).  Here's hoping that lightning can strike twice so-to-speak.

You are actually closer to the truth than you would think.

Another question, not that the character customization is limiting, but at the same time it didn't seem as extensive as other games that are coming out. Will there only be four hair options or will they extend that option come release time? Not that it is a deal breaker for me either way.

Some races have 4 hair options, some races have 8, some have in-between.. so if anything every race will have at least  8 options come release.

I need to ask this, since it comes up often. What is the mouse used for? The way people have talked it seems like the mouse does nothing. Do you use it to select items in your inventory or in menues, or can you use it to click on parts of your UI (using skills or abilities)? I know the movement is via ASWAD and keyboard, but what I was wondering is what does the mouse actually do.

I played FFXI on the PS2 with a overgrown controller that had a keyboard in the middle, never played it on a PC.

On the PC version of FFXIV most people are just gonna play it using a game pad like you would on ps3 or 360 to make it easier. So I can see people not worrying about a mouse usage in FFXIV.

Myself and my group of friends that played final fantasy 11 hated it on a gamepad and nothing is going to change that from 11 to 14. I would much rather use a keyboard and mouse. All about personal preference though.

I don't know if this info was already posted here:

    • Retainers will be placed in set marketplace stalls and be able to hold, and sell, player goods while a player is offline.  At this time there is no auction house in the game.

    • Levequests yield, in addition to tangible rewards, reputation.

    • As was the case in FFXI, some mobs will attack unprovoked on sight, but will refrain from such an attack if the player is too high a level.

    • Instanced dungeons and notorious monsters are in the works.

    • Currently is is possible to raise all crafts to maximum level.

    • New Land and Hand classes – Harvester (DoL), Armorer (DoH), Goldsmith (DoH) and Woodworker (DoH).  The names are subject to change once they are officially released on the English web site.

    • Changing the “face type” changes more than just the face (specifically it is noted that the nose shape and bust size change).

Oh dear... well I guess that means most of the females will have the same face type then... :P
