Rift walker? Seriusly? I'm starting to think that good ol' Kevin Siembieda may have really been on to something.
You don't say so? Sound like a ley line walker to me and the whole game sounds a lot like Palladium.
I hope Kevins lawsuit wins, not that I am against the idea of a Palladium MMO but they should pay license rights and use all the lore then, not just steal all the good parts.
And this isn't just like everyone who steals from Tolkien, Tolkien himself stole a lot of his ideas from Norse mythology while Kevin spent his life work creating his own stuff (even though he also borrowed from the worlds ancient religions.
This is actually stealing everything including the name, it would be like someone created a MMO called "Middle earth" or "Hyborea" without license rights.
I don't mind TERA at all but there is a limit to how much you can steal others ideas and this is past it.
The term "Middle Earth" is from Middle English "Mittelerde" which is from Old English "Middangeard" which is from Old Norse "Miðgarðr" aka Midgard today. Hyborea is from Ancient Greek "Hyperborian" which means "Beyond the North Wind". In fact, the name "Conan" itself is an Irish name, and "Cimmeria" is from the Celtic tribe "Cymric". Conan's god "Crom" is an old Iris god "Crom Cruach".
Most of the stuff these guys wrote about they didn't make up themselves; they just adapted it and used it for their stories. The Tolkein estate does own the trademark "Hobbit" though, which is why everyone else calls them "Halflings".
For the record, Rifts the pen n paper rpg had Lay Line Walkers, not a Rift Walker.

Kevin is an ego-centric ass. He had the balls to try and sue Todd McFarlaine over use of the name Spawn, for crying out loud. Lost that battle, too. Had to change the name of HIS game. LOL. Palladium Books isn't nearly as cool as he thinks they are. And as pointed out, the OCC was Ley Line Walker, not Rift Walker. Kevin has no claim on any of it. Next he'll try to sue WotC because they have Dragons in DND4.
You know what I meant. It's like they're really messing with him now that he can't do anything about it.
I read the linked document. Palladium has a solid case. Game content aside, the very name Rits : Planes of Telara will be, and is already, very damaging to Palladium and their future projects. Trion is in the wrong and needs to change their games name.

Since when does being right have anything to do with legal? This will be determined by who has the best lawyers, who can game the system better than their opponents. Given that any of the various mega corps behind Trion could swallow Palladium out of pocket change, this could get most unpleasent for them. Time will tell the tale in this case.
