How much does ONE-THOUSAND Gold buy you in WoW?

I've seen auctions on eBay selling 1,000 Gold for $195-$225. I probably won't buy that stuff online, and I don't even have the game. I'm learning about this game in order to not be much of a noob when I start.

So, how much does 1,000 Gold buy you in the game?

It will buy you one epic(lvl 60) mount.......or a couple of epic items, but really that's about it. The reason the lames are limiting sells to 1k is that Blizzard actively hunt down g-sellers and slaps them with a ban A.S.A.P. Anyone caught with a unsual amount of cash in a short amount of time could possibly be flagged. So tread carefully or risk getting the boot before you even start.
59.99(game)+14.95(1 month)+300(ebay gold)=ban account. And a big headache for you.

To get your first mount at lvl 40 is quite easy. you only need 90 gold with an honoured reputation and at that level 90 gold is easy to get. At level 60, I'd imagine getting the epic mount would be a grind but doable. After all once you are level 60 what else is there to do. ::::02::

I hear that gold sellers can just buy another box and set up a new account, then simply pick up where they left off. How does Blizzard act against that?

Also, since there are literally MILLIONS of WoW players, how can Blizzard keep track of who sends & receives money??? How do they utilize what little manpower they have?

  • HashmanHashman Member Posts: 649

blizzard banned many accounts, therefore they have tools to monitor cash flow. They are not going to divulge specific details obviously. Will a bank in real life tell you how it handles money? No. Blizzard do have means to trace transactions, they have proved it, at the end of the day just don't buy any gold ever.

Err, I don't think it's a trained monkey monitoring each game. They just parse the logs and look for patterns. These so called "computers" are apparently very powerful, and can parse much more data then a human could ever possibly do.

Lol....   I agree with the above...  WOW has posted that anyone purchasing gold or items off site will be banned and they have done that already..  25 accounts and counting.

I think Blizzard should allow gold sellers. I mean, think about it, anyone that spends $300 on a fantasy currency probably has things to sort out in-real-life. That would be like banning players who play female characters. These types of people are very sick in the head irl and they need to sort things out, or just avoid real-life. That is where WoW and other MMORPGs come in.
EDIT: I didnt mean "Players who play female characters" I meant "Men who play female characters".

Since the "phattest lewt" is Bind on Pickup, for 1000g you can get either epic mount or some decent stuff. But if you want to get really the best items, you must get them yourself.

edit: gargantroo you are sick, god forbid some people actually try to roleplay other gender in MMORPG.

Really?? Is that all? Only 25 gold-farmers' accounts banned??
  • ZrazikZrazik Member Posts: 195

I believe they banned about 1000 account for selling farmed items, there was even and official news about this on their site. But in reality no amount of bans will stop that kind if activities. A proper game mechanics can only make farming not a very profitable job. BoP items are definately a good step towards it.

didnt they do this alot in lineage?? making accounts selling them making accounts sellng them

A roleplaying game is totally different than just roleplay. If RPGs were based off of however many people were roleplaying in them, every game except UO wouldnt be here.
Halo could than be considered a roleplaying game, since the NPCs in that game talk like it's real.
And I'm sorry, I think it's kind of wrong for a 50 year old geek who didnt get laid once in his whole life to be making characters to get aroused (go to Teldrassil if you dont believe me).
You cant say more than 1% of the female characters played by men were made for roleplaying purposes. ::::05::

If you weren't trying to hit that hawt NE females you wouldn't have a problem

    edit:

This is supposed a to be an RPG after all, i dont care about other players' RL gender simply because I don't treat an MMO as a dating agency. Why do you care whether they are females or not if that has no real meaning in game unless you are trying to cyber?

    edit2:

OK, let's back to topic. For 1k gold you could make NE females dance for you for months::::02::

  • gargantroogargantroo Member Posts: 1,477

Well, I just thought I'd state two crowds in an MMO that piss me off...
ebayers and guys who make NE females to look hawt :(
And this post apparently is by an ebayer

Funny thing is....in a game like FFXI, buying gold is sooooooo tempting, due to the fact that FFXI runs on money. I never bought it, but the idea was there, then I just quit, lol.

I don't condone selling of gold by the way, just want to point out that certain games have made this practice very viable to those shady types out there.

Now onto WoW. One of the reasons I love this game is the fact that I don't NEED money that much since its fairly easy to obtain as it is. I have a level 54 hunter, the only time I had to go farm for gold was when I wanted my mount. It took me maybe 4 hours of running to lowend instances solo to aquire the gold I needed. And it was fun!

Point is, while the Epic mount may be the only reason to buy online gold, the game makes it easy to not worry so much about money.

Do you have $300? If so, then help yourself. How a person would waste real money on in-game money is beyond me, but since Blizzard has people watching server logs as far as trading goes, go right ahead. You and your buddy you are giving money to are going to be banned anyway. Heh...

Just wait 'til 1000 gold only costs $10.00! Since that's a gold a penny, an 11-yr-old could just use his allowance money to buy himself some in-game wealth! (after giving to his parents of course, for the purposes of using their credit cards.)

They can ban all they want it wont stop. For every 25 they catch there are 50 more they dont catch. Then again they are at least policing the game thats more than most do.

Do they automatically close buyers' accounts as well, or just sellers' accounts?

Hopefully they ban buyers accounts... I dont give a flying f*** about the sellers.
Buyers are such losers, I used to play Ultima Online when I was 11, and I had more cash than one guy who ebayed gold. Just goes to show what an 1337 person I am.

lol, what's that suppose to mean. I play female characters on mmorpgs just as much as male characters. This is more of a rhetorical question (dont want to thread hijack) so don't answer here. If you feel compelled to answer just email me or just start a new thread about that in the off topic discussion

But, I play female toons as well as male toons. My wife does as well. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

If I am actually roleplaying, then I use my male toons....If Im not roleplaying I play either

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
