My vote is for Vanguard.. It's a deep rpg, and not many people are willing to fork over cash for a dwindling player base.. If it was F2P it would attract more players which would of course make the game more enjoyable.
None? F2P is just another name for item mall. Until games really become F2P and not a trickery I don't care.
So, explain this to me then....
If games were to become "really" free to play......how would the developers pay the artists and programmers and pay for the servers and the overhead on their buildings, the electricity bill, the continued development of the game, etc., etc. ad infinitum?
Are developers supposed to just make games for you out of the goodness of their hearts and then also expect all the artists and other people it takes to MAKE said game to work for free?
I'm assuming that surely you're meaning free to play with some OTHER definition of free, such as what Guild Wars has, which...incidentally....is not an MMO and is also NOT free to play, you still have to buy the game.
So....what do you mean by "free" when you use that word? O.o
I don't know that it is innevitable. Once it becomes apparent that F2P causes a degredation in quality of playerbase in games, and likely causes churn in paying subscriber numbers I think those players happy to play for stable and quality environments will be looking for, and companies looking to provide, stable, paid for communities.
Personally, I would be loathe to start playing any pay-to-play game only to find out it had a chance of going F2P down the line. From experience, F2P games I've played had terrible communities, and I don't want to invest my time in playing to risk losing an enjoyable part of a gaming experience. I think we could end up with a few higher quality, smaller population games from all of this.
Funny you mention that. I just left LOTRO three weeks ago I think it was due to the F2P move. And was thinking about EQ2 as I have TSO but havnt played in awhile. Then yesterday I hear about it going F2P. Im scared now lol. Guess I will keep playing Mass Effect until the new games come out.
On topic I guess Warhammer, I liked it but we all know its short comings but if it was F2P might log on now and then and do some scenarios.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
There are no F2P games. F2P is not a viable busy model. Actually, it is not even a business model. The term has been thrown around too much without giving any thought to the matter.
Yep the F2P is a misnomer. It's like giving you the chasis of a car but leaving out the wheels unless you pay for them.

More like the A/C.. They leave out convenience items.. But you can still get from point A to point B.. You just gonna have to sweat it out unless you fork over some cash..
Curious to see it, but not $60 bucks worth. Would check it out at F2P.

Could someone PLEASE explain to me why all of you insist Guild Wars isn't an MMO? Is it because the world is instanced and centered around hub towns? I seriously don't get it...
Why? Because the current asking price is *way* too much for such a retro game.
If it went fully F2P and consisted off of having house deeds cost a mixture of in-game currency and real funds fed into the the game, based on size, and much like how Wurm Online currently does, I bet there would be a lot more people playing it, and the housing areas would be actually cared for - instead of having the best spots taken immediately and having them stagnate at the incredible rate that they already do, and have since the game's inception.

There really is no such thing as free to play. There's subscription fee versus cash shop. That's it. No MMO is actually free to play.
I think most of us know that already . The thing is the free to play model differs depending on the game . Some are fairer than others . Games like DDO (and soon LOTRO) offer a hyrbid model which allows you to play the bulk of the original content which can take months to go through before you have to spend any money and if and when you get to the point you want to continue further you have the option to use micropayments if you want to play casually or a standard subscription fee ( such as in games like Warcraft ) if you want to continue on a more regular basis . In the cases of these games the term free to play really is akin to a very long free trial which is based on content rather than time . Other games like Runes of Magic offer a cash shop and although I'm told you can play them without using it the fact is most people do because it is tempting to do so even if only for a mount . Some free to play cash shop models can be too expensive others need to be used to have any real chance in advancing in the game ( I think its these that give free to play a bad name ) .
But at the end of the day the truth is the freemium model is only as successful as its implimentation . As more games go down this route there will be ones that do it well and fairly and others that don't .

I don't want any game to go f2p. I hate f2p, as it is never free if you want to have fun in said game. If it's free your options are cut to the point there is no fun in it, and that's not the point of a game.
Lineage 2. Back in the day I used to have a lot of fun with this game. But as they brought the Kamael into play I started to dislike the game a bit, so I've stopped paying for it. If it was free I'd start playing again though.
Some of these outdated games that people like to play should be going f2p . I mean, I like to play swg, but It's so outdated and boring and the servers are crap, the quests are crap, and there isn't even a healthy population on my server I usually play on, but I am not willing to p2p that game anymore it is not worth it, and if I do sub I only log in like 3 times a month to check the bounty terms, before I realize how dead the game is and unsub again.
I finally just said the hell with it and unistalled that game, the dev team is really crappy at this point and they don't really care what direction that game goes.

I wouldn't want that for a new game, but a game i just play to kill time, or a game I really don't care about. Ya know you have that game you would like to log into every once in awhile to see how everybody is doing, but you won't pay for the game because it is boring and the devs don't give a shit. Well, those are the kind of games that need to go f2p.. Or atleast lower their fees to 5 dollars a month or something, it's just an insult to charge 15 dollars when you r game is a lower quality than the other big MMO's on the market. Should be some kind of a lower price to play a lower quality game. What about competiton?

I put my first MMO I played. SWG. It would be nice to be able to log in anytime I wanted to visit the first world I ever explored in an MMO.

Eve online should go free to play.
Vanguard
Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2.
Actually, if they relaunched AC2 and did a subscription bundle with the two of them I would even go for that.

EQ2 has a cash shop.

So will SWTOR from what I understand.

Ever one that goes F2P is one less game for me to choose from, I'd prefer my list of choices to stay as big as possible.
