SWTOR on consoles. Anyone else notice this?

SWTOR on consoles. Anyone else notice this?

This by no means confirms a console release, but has anyone else noticed the absence of the usual PC-DVD or Windows logos anywhere? Check out any majorly published game's site being released for the PC and you'll find those logos somewhere. Also, you'd figure a frequently asked question would be 'what platforms will this be on?" or "will this game be on consoles?" yet those questions are also absent from the FAQ.

I'm just being a conspiracy theorist here, but to me this says they are either DEFINITELY going to release it on consoles, or they havent decided yet as they are 'looking into it'. They probably dont want to pull a Cryptic or Funcom move and announce it for consoles, set up pre-orders, and then have to back out of their commitments.

Historically, Bioware has release games for both PC and consoles ever since the original KoTOR.

What are your thoughts?

    I thought they already said no to consoles but anything is possible. All Microsoft has to do is throw money at people and they usually get what they want.

    Yeah I thought I remembered reading that too, and for some reason I also thought I remembered there being the PC logo at the bottom of their site.

     It could be a ploy just to get some money out of Microsoft. From what i have seen so far it seems the user interface is almost like Mass Effect. That would mean it would be very doable for a console.

    Best you can do at the moment is go off of the FAQ on the official site , no point wondering

    What are the system requirements for Star Wars: The Old Republic?

    While we don’t have the minimum system requirements available just yet, the goal is to make the game playable on most PCs.

    mmmh yeah. But Microsoft is in Consoles now.... so why they would want a pc exclusive when they could have a xbox/pc exclusive on their hand?

    No no, microsoft involvment do not at all mean "no console version". As long as there are separate servers, in case they have 2 versions, it is going to be fine with me.

    If they put it for console also i just wont buy the game ... last time they had a game for pc and console the interface was made for console and PC had to live with it ... AKA FFXI. I threw the game away because of the controls.

    It's been known for a long time now that the game will be a PC exclusive on launch...

    They haven't said no to ever releasing on Mac or consoles, but that doesn't mean they will.

    I can definitely see Mac happening in the near future, but consoles? Not likely imo, it would require a complete redesign of many game features, it also doesn't look fit for the simplicity a controller setup requires from the gameplay demo's.

    Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

    Bioware has already stated that the game is not being developed for ANY platform other than PC Windows at this time.

    To me this just says they are aiming for low system requirements that match most PCs. Doesnt mean PCs specifically. Current gen consoles are comparable to low end PCs, and that's not a stretch.

    It is highly possible that they could get TOR to run on consoles.  The keymapping is not an issue, I've played most MMOs with a controller at one point or another using switchblade.

    Console hardware specs are low end PCs, yes, but they are also all the same so TOR could easily be optimized for the hardware which could increase performance.

    All that aside, at this time, there are no plans for them to release SWTOR on consoles eventhough it was originally being considered at one point and time.

    It is doubtful we will see a TOR console port anytime soon, though more appropriately, it is doubtful we will see a SWTOR console port on this generation of console.

    They could team up with the new X Box 360 Kinect that launches in November. Lightsaber battles would be sweet. O.o

    Yes... except that the Kinect is the biggest load of horsecrap ever made! Have you seen what kind of games it has? It is just bad controller for this type of games or well basicly every other type of games too.

    This game is made with the Hero Engine so you would have to research this engine for the console capabilities. Microsoft is a pain to work with for updating live games in the MMO sense. PS3 is a lot easier.

    They say "at this time" about EVERYTHING.

    You might as well assume every word and piece of information they have ever revealed about the game to be untrue.

    I'm calling it now.

    If SWTOR releases on Consoles and PC the console playerbase will be much bigger than the PC one.

    I don't think they will release it for consoles though.

    From what I've read, the Hero Engine has a built-in cross platform framework. Not sure if that just means "+Mac" or is all inclusive.

    Everyone talks about Xbox 360 and Mac, but take two seconds and think bigger.  PS3, that’s right, what is the one game that would lunch Sony past Microsoft, similar to the PS2 vs. the original Xbox?

    But why on earth would they choose to develop for the ps3 when it a) is  far more difficult to port to the ps3 and b) sold far fewer consoles so has less possible users than the xbox 360

    Not sure how this is "thinking bigger", unless you're a ps3 fanboi in denial

    As a long time (day 1) member of the SWTOR community and an affiliate of several insider podcasts. I will tell you 100% that this game will not be on consoles.  They are still estimating the mac version 2+ years out, if at all.

    =============

    This is all but confirmed in a quote from http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=240953

    BioWare has quashed rumours that the studio is working on bringing its upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, to consoles.

    The rumours stemmed from a leak by retailer GAME, which listed an Xbox 360 version in its 2011 product line up.

    "As to why The Old Republic is on that list, we have no idea but to allay any confusion, we should not be on there," clarified community manager Sean Dahlberg.

    "'Star Wars: The Old Republic' is currently being developed for the PC using the Microsoft Windows operating system. While we recognize that there are other operating systems and platforms available for games today, our development is specific to the personal computer using the Windows operating system at this time."

    ===============

    Debate all you want. Not gonna happen. They are totally dedicated to PC on this one.

    ================

    Further update:  Direct quote from Daniel Erickson:

    BioWare’s Daniel Erickson has said Star Wars: The Old Republic’s not coming to consoles, and the possibility hasn’t been discussed.

    According to the lead writer and designer, the interface for PC is “made for games”, and admitting told CVG he doesn’t know if it’s possible to put SWTOR on consoles.

    “I have no idea if it’s possible,” Erickson said of a console version. “I’d have to ask our tech director.

    “I can tell you that it’s not anything that we’ve even discussed. There is nobody anywhere in Bioware laying the groundwork for that because we have a very large complicated game to ship first.

    “We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the interface is made for games. The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console]“.

     I don’t think SWTOR will be on the PS3, but if Sony was smart and put the money up front to have it done. It is the one game that would truly take Sony stock to the next level.

    That is all I’m saying.  Oh, and that I’m ecstatic for space combat!!

  • FaelsunFaelsun Member UncommonPosts: 501

    EA probably doesnt want to spend money on both, But I dont see them taking a huge market risk and going console only with an mmorpg. They might make it cross compatible enough that you can play the entire game with a mouse/spacebar or an Xbox controller ... but i doubt Console only.
