And that game was super hyped too.

Do you even realize it's being made by a completely different company? Yeah Mythic screwed things up with WAR in a lot of ways, but theyre not the ones making 40k.

There are plenty of people who care, when the op blatantly bashed IP's when he has no knowledge about them.  First of all you never answered how GW2 or Rift isn't gonna fail?  They are both really hyped, personally I want them to do good and plan to play them, but we still don't know whether they are gonna succeed or not.  Haha you say we still have hope for mmo's, but why do you have hope in GW2 or Rift?  WH40k isn't even developed by Mythic who made WAR, so honestly I don't see the connection.  WAR is a great IP that was done no justice by Mythic they screwed it up, but idk how you can link THQ:Vigil with EA:Mythic, really??

I said Warhammer online was hyped, not 40k -_-

Really sir?  You only said WAR was super hyped?  Well looking back it seems you said WAR was super hyped too.  Indicating that WH40k is also overhyped.  Also, why can't you answer my questions?

Jeese, im 16 people, cut me some slack, i dont Lurk the MMORPG news everyday and find out whos on every dev team and what game is being made by who.

Okay, i admit i didnt know 40k is being made by different DEV's. I understand that.

As for Rift, its different... its not a Cookie cutter MMO in any way, great art style, looks like tons of customization, i love how you can capture Souls and create Rouge's with Archer abilities or Mages with Rouge abilities. Its an independent developer, and its here in the U.S. Everything about this game is different.

Guild Wars2, Its B2P and riding on GW's huge success, plus has tons of hype. Even if this game is Mediocre, it will still sell like no other because its B2P.

and I could care less for TERA, So GW 2 I guess.

Its obvious, even though in your post following this you claim to have been following it closely that you know next to nothing.

GW1 - dual class system / GW2 - no dual classes, customization will be done through a Traits (with approx 100 traits with different effects per class) system amongst other things

GW1 - fully instanced outside of town hubs / GW2 - mix of open world and instancing for certain aspects

GW1 - only instanced arena style PvP / GW2 - arena pvp as well as The Mists which is more of an open PvP zone where 3 servers will be fighting eachother constantly for control of resources, objectives, etc

GW2 - focusing more on crowd control mechanics and removing tanka nd spank mechanics

GW2 - removal of dedicate dhealer classes and changing the focus to protection & preventing damage rather than refilling peoples HP bars

    GW2 - dynamic event system

GW2 - massive underwater areas making up a  large part of the world

GW2 - combination attacks, both between multiple players and individual players using certain skills to cause special effects when combined

GW2 - combo system where using a skill sets off the 1st part of the combo, using again performs the 2nd part, using again the 3rd

    GW2 - environmental weapons

GW2 - loads and loads of side stuff / non-combat activities some of which were seen in GW1 but most of which are new

    GW2 - downed skill system

GW2 - Personal story system which is influenced by decisions you make through character creation/background choices as well as decisions you make throughout the game and impacts various things such as how NPCs act towards you

GW2 - auction house (which didnt exist in Gw1) as well as web version of the AH to allow people to access it when they cant get in the game

GW2 - personal housing instance, and not JUST a hous eitself but a larger area which is only partly taken up the house. think of it as more like an actual house with a yard and stuff around it, all of which changes throughout your progression in the game

    GW2 - downed abilities

I could continue if needed, but ill leave it there for now. GW1 with higher level cap and voices? Did you even play GW1? Please troll harder.

Indicating that WAR was hyped just like AoC

Somehow I sensed this once you threw out your gpa.  Well next time don't make such claims about the things you don't know.  Actually if you would look into WH40k you would be excited about it except for the fact that from things being said on the site about Order and Destruction it might not have 3 factions like most people want.  Also, TERA could turn out to be a good game.  But, here's my list of mmo's I'm waiting for 1. Copernicus  2. WH40k 3.GW2 4.Rifts  I'll try them all, then and only then can we determine which one is fail and which isn't.

see i see this totally diffrently,  Gw2 already is rideing off of a huge (yes huge) game. it can only get better, if they stick to what the game has been but only make improvements and nothing else, we have a great game that will do great. but i do understand that you do have your own personal thouhgts about it and possibly the first.

thank you for respecting my own personal opinion. Thats a change considering what forums these are.

Both games seem promising tho GW2 looks like a more ambitious project in terms of overall, long-overdue genre innovation. In addition GW2 looks to be a much more promising title in terms of PvP while in Rift it is treated almost as an afterthought.

My first choice is GW2 with Rift being a backup if GW2 flops miserably. Other titles are completely uninteresting to me: SW:TOR looks like a console game on rails trying to cash in on MMO hype and FFXIV appears to be nothing more than an half-hearted update for IP fans.

I would have to go with option 3 as well as all of the other games you mentioned i am more interested in than those two but if i had to pick i would have to say guild wars 2. even though im not a fan of the first one i would have to put it over rift. The whole rift thing is the most gimmicky thing i seen in any upcomming mmo.

I challenged my reflection to a staring contest....4 days later i won

I'm done with Tab-targeting games...scratch those off my list.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Neither, I'm done with fantasy MMOs, I'm soooooo tired of fantasy MMOs.

  • svannsvann Member RarePosts: 2,230

Of the two Id say GW2.  Rift smells like fail.  I could be wrong though.  Ill probably have a look at both, but Im really looking forward to FF14 most of all.

I am just not a fanboi. I know GW2 will fail and the only reason anyone will play it is because its F2P.

GW1 - dual class system / GW2 - no dual classes, customization will be done through a Traits (with approx 100 traits with different effects per class) system amongst other things

WoW, EQ, EQ 2 just to name a few.

GW1 - fully instanced outside of town hubs / GW2 - mix of open world and instancing for certain aspects

    Everquest 2.

GW1 - only instanced arena style PvP / GW2 - arena pvp as well as The Mists which is more of an open PvP zone where 3 servers will be fighting eachother constantly for control of resources, objectives, etc

WoW has something similar to that.

GW2 - focusing more on crowd control mechanics and removing tanka nd spank mechanics

Well that sucks because most people I know like the Tank/Healer/DPS trinity.

GW2 - removal of dedicate dhealer classes and changing the focus to protection & preventing damage rather than refilling peoples HP bars

Wow so instead of healing your just preventing damage? Wow that sounds soooooooooooo much better.

    GW2 - dynamic event system

No, they are not permanent, there is nothing dynamic about them. Public Quest with glitter.

GW2 - massive underwater areas making up a  large part of the world

SWG(Space), SWTOR(Space), and hell even WoW(Underwater) have large portions of the game set up like that.

GW2 - combination attacks, both between multiple players and individual players using certain skills to cause special effects when combined

    EQ 2

GW2 - combo system where using a skill sets off the 1st part of the combo, using again performs the 2nd part, using again the 3rd

    and thats cool how?

    GW2 - environmental weapons

Yeah watch no one use it.

I am thinking it will be SWTOR Lite.

GW2 - auction house (which didnt exist in Gw1) as well as web version of the AH to allow people to access it when they cant get in the game

Thats a given in all MMOs.

I played the first GW, and plan on playing #2 but I am not a fanboi, so my expectations (unlike yours) are reasonable.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
