I don't have a problem with a game that's designed around a controller.  I'll communicate using voice chat exlusivly though.

Would that be equally right to do? If you're not going to bother to do it right, why the hell bother at all?

Let me help break down your arguement.

FFXI was locked on certain features (graphics) on all versions (console/computer) to make sure everyone played on the same level. While, in my opinion, that's just flat our stupid, it's what SE chose to do. However, depth of field was changable by altering registry settings like most of us did anyway.

And, no, it's not like releasing it on a console then providing no support for a controller. They are providing support for a controller, mouse, and keyboard on all versions. However, a controller is the prefered way to play. And the same arguement can be used on many games that simply half-ass the controller. Why bother if you're not going to do it right? Honestly, because it's most probably the best they could do at the time given the UI.

The game is made for a controller. If you haven't tried it yet, then I really suggest you do. You may be surprised. If you did try it, and disliked it, well, then you're stuck with whatever SE puts out. Like the patch notes for beta 3 say, though, they're overhauling the UI to make it easier for mouse/keyboard combo. I would wait and see how that pans out.

Edit: Oh. And I'll be playing this game because it lets me use a controller. I honestly wish all MMOs did. So much more comforable...

I hear ya but i have like 40 buttons and command that i can access via my 17 button mouse and cntl and shift (could use alt but i don't need that many hot keys). instatnly .. u can't do this easily with a controller, so while a more simplistic mmos with far fewer attack commands or slower speed of gameplay might work fine w/ controller, like ff14, they don't in many mmorpgs well for that reason, and typeing. MMOs are supposted to be social i guess there are mics for that but i really don't want to voice chat/hear everyone i am grouped with/near.

Personally im glad SE doesnt conform to the norm. when i played FFXI with a controller i felt so much more confortable being able to sit back in my chair and play the game, rather then be all hunched up and bent over my keyboard. But seriously if you dont want to play the game based on the fact that the controller is the perfered choice, then personally, i dont care for you to even play the game in the first place, Im already having a feeling that im gonna see nothing but complaints aboujt the game after release because its not like WoW, ooooo woooooow they did something different, good for them! i dont want this to be wow, i dont want to feel like im playing wow. i want to be playing FF, and hey i played the all the other  FFs with a .... guess what, a controller! So enough of my ranting. Sit down, shut up, buy a controller, and deal with it.

You know I play on a PC because I can not use a controller effectively.  If this is meant to be played on a PC with a controller, how about they BOX one with the game.  Can you get that through your skull?  If it is more sophisticated than an old NES controller or SNES I am at a loss.  I can't stand the thumb sticks.  Not to mention my hands hurt really bad if I do happen to be on one for more than an hour.

I would honestly give everyone the whole controller arguement, IF it was put on PS3 first.  It isn't.  Make it viable on a Mouse/Keyboard(and it looks like they have, so really isn't this a redudant thread anyways?, hell I was able to use FFXI on a keyboard mouse that I picked up for a few days and it wasn't hard at all, a bit different but I've played menu games before(TOEE for instances) so it really is no different.

BTW other than playing FFXI for a couple days I've never played a FF game in my life.  Secondly I sit upright in my chair so I have good posture and don't play any game leaning back kicking my feet out.  If I want to do that I got a 60" tv in the living room to play like that and honestly that is to damn big for my taste.

Totally off topic, but i use BT keyboard and mouse to play on a  52" media center (gaming machine) but i prefer my 20" to game, and i dislike wireless but, i do like the wireless mouse i have for the MC as its got a charge pad which is the only way id ever go wireless. (batterys + wireless = failz)

Good mouse+keyboard support is a deal breaker for me. If it's built around using a controller then it will fucking kill this game for me, just like FFXI

Do your reasearch. It's built for the mouse+keyboard. It just happens to play great with a controller.

I think FFXI played way better with keyboard only than it did with a controller.

It might say it is made for a mouse and keyboard, but when I played Final Fantasy XI, I could tell that the interface was designed with a controller in mind, and made to work with a mouse and keyboard. Trying to use that interface with a mouse and keyboard was unwieldy and infuriating. Everything required far to many commands to get done, and was unintuitive. Add to that the inability to change anything about anything, and that was enough for me to quit in just a few days.

    WTF? No subscription fee?

I think it was made with Keyboard only in mind and not so much the controller. It took 3 times longer to select actions with a controller than it did with the keyboard.

I hope the next Call of Duty game on PC is meant to be played with a racing wheel.

I HATE CONFORMIST COMPANIES. THEY'RE SUCH SHEEP.
