And wow, you completely misconstrued my statements. I said that a lot of people would be turned off by scenes like that, and implied that some undesirable people might be drawn to the game too as a result of this advertising. I did not say or imply that anyone who likes the game is a rapist...
When someone says "alot of people would be turned off" and talked about it making you squirm, I felt... I don't know... Judged? Thanks for clearing that up. And yes, I've seen the video... Though I still can't pick the part you mean. The opeing with the little fox chick who summons the... whatever that thing is with her paintbrush? Or Do you mean the Destroyer chopping the gunslinger person?
No - click the link I posted. It's near the beginning and closer to the end. The woman and big kung fu guy fighting in the rain. Specifically the part where he has her pinned to the ground and is punching her in the face and slamming her head into the pavement full force, then reveling in it. She somehow gets up without a scratch, but it's still a bit disturbing to watch imo. I realize not everyone will see it in that light but I'm sure I'm not the only one. Think if you showed that video to someone who has never played an mmo before and try to imagine what would run through their head at that scene.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Well, everyone in pretty much every MMO "gets up without a scratch" after getting hit by fireballs and such, and I don't think it's really any more unrealistic than the FPS market with COD and the like where you just respawn immediately with no consequence from being blown up by a rocket, or gunned down by an assault rifle. I'm sure the same people would find GTA just as squirm inducing, and probably most games of football. I know I do. Maybe I'm just more desensetised to this kind of thing (big fan of martial arts anime, too).

I didn't make an arguement about how realistic or unrealistic it was - I just said it's not that easy to watch, though I supposed I could see being desensitized to it. A lot of people aren't though, which is what makes it bad advertising. You'll notice even GTA doesn't show the gameplay where you're gunning down crowds of people or running over prostitutes in their commercials - they show people dancing in a nightclub and characters talking. They don't show the most violent parts of gameplay because they want it to appeal to the largest audience. That's the point I'm trying to make here.
P.S. A game of football can be flinch inducing sometimes, but big guys with protective gear against eachother is a little different from an 8 foot tall guy with arms as thick as tree trunks smashing the head of a scrawny, unprotected girl into pavement repeatedly.
Except that the guys in football gear are doing it for real, getting paid to do it, and thousands of wwitless sycophants are screaming down at them from the stands for blood. The girl gets up without a scratch and can probably dish it out just as well as she can take it. On an ADVERTISING side of things, they show the crashes in car races to advertise those. They show the big hits from football games to advertise those. I would have thought that anyone who was going to play it/take a look probably isn't going to flinch at such stuff, but I suppose some new players may be turned off. They probably would be turned off once they see it in game anyway. But they'dhave bought the box. I don't find it too graphic, but others might. Each to their own.

Wanted to say the exact same thing ;-)
