hmm. Guess I'll just have to go buy a cheap PS3 like gamepad then.

The game is in beta, launch is in a good 40 days, i read these complaints but a lot of them dont seem like issues worth packign up and leaving over, anyway im personally waiting to see how it looks come launch. There is no downside to me playing the game myself and getting my own opinion, this check list of slag hardly seem like something you can hang your hat on.

I just logged off a few minutes ago...

I am neither a hater of FF nor a fan boy. But I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart the keyboard and mouse controls will drive you batsh*t crazy. It was ungodly fursterating.  And it's not just combat.. It's from using your map to having to click through 50 popup windows just to sell to a npcs, to add/remove equipped items or interact with an object.. It's pretty bad to be honest..I'll give it a few more rounds later on to see how it goes.

And that's just the user interface. The combat itself is a whole other thing I wont even get into. Nobody really listens or cares til they try it for themselves anyways so i'll let them do that.

Personally, I'd find with the current menus and interface setup that a controller would definitely be my choice. Maybe it's because those types of menus are what you'd find on a single player RPG, and it's ingrained into my head.

Some interesting points there. I got faith in SE to pull this off.. But if you look at my post history I am always so hyped up lol.... Someone said I should get a controller.. I think I will.

Every piece depending on what you wear and what class your playing at the time, needs a different craftsman to repair it. Each piece of gear takes roughly 1 minute to repair no matter the % of degredation. NPC repairers only repair an item to 50%. I wont go into upgrades and how they are gotten. its still sorta in the air if some will be NPC sold or mostly all from crafting.

I haven't experienced this mechanic of the game yet. I was told you could just use one NPC for your repairs.

2: There is no AH. There are market instances where each seller puts up a store. You are charged for the store, charged to put an item up for sale and charged for selling. There is no way to see what everyone has unless you manually check each and every store. A person can set thier store on top of yours currently which can make targeting yours.. harder.

There's an AH, but it's locked for beta (for some reason.) The market place is the optional way of selling things like in XI.

3: To craft a levequest it takes clicking through 9 windows to begin crafting. If you LD for any reason you fail the quest(this goes for any type of levequest) . Skillup are randomly awarded even if you succeed in the crafting.(its a little more indepth than this but for all intents and purposes, its random) . There are no recipies or recipe lists in game. To craft you have to figure out the right combination of materials and once you do, you have to remember them. There is no way in game currently to keep track of them.

I have to agree. The no recipe thing makes me rage on the inside a little. SE should of learned from XI on this. -_- Dislike having to have a notebook full of recipes next to my PC.

4: Alt+ tab will auto disconnect your game. I list this here because you will need a second monitor to look up recipes for the above crafting.

As far as I'm aware, this is a bug. Can always play in window mode, as well.

5: While in battle, you have to manually target each mob. If a mob is hitting you it does not auto target them. If your fighting 2 mobs at 1 time and you kill the first, the second will usually get 2 more shots on you before you can target it and get a skill to activate. (this is subjective but on avg its 2 shots depending on lag or how many other targets are around you.)

This is normal and I don't dislike or it like it. Find it comes in handy sometimes when you just don't want to target that other thing.

6: Currently there is no true tutorial. pretty much everything you figure out on your own or by reading websites. The first few minutes of the game is a"sorta" battle tutorial that plays without actually telling you what to do.

This. This. And oh my God, this. The opening storyline-tutorial thing is neat... But it doesn't tell you HOW to do things. Just tells you to do them.

    Game: DU IT NAO.

    You: {pulls out hair facerolling trying to figure out what key/key combination to press}

7: The UI is slow to respond to either control scheme be it KB/mouse or gamepad. Multiple errors accure depending on numerous situations. Gamepad keys are not working for all window menus most notibly the accept command for selecting crafting levequests or putting skills on your hotbar. It takes multiple windows to complete simple tasks in the UI for every task.

This is the work-in-progress FPS caps and UI tweaks issue. There are way too many windows when one or two would suffice. x_x

8: The game still stutters even on high end machines. A lot of high end configurations are performing worse than midrange systems comparably.

Seems to be a phase 3 issue. ATI cards are having some pretty bad problems this time around. I know, personally, my game drops in FPS at random times for absolutely no reason (I'm not moving, moving the camera, nothing comes on or off screen.) And then I run into the starter camp and I don't lag at all... Yep. They'll fix it, though. [I use an ATI HD5670.]

9: FFXIV's way of telling mob strength is out of whack depending on the mob. A green dot goat hits for 200's while a green dot mole hits for 25's.

    This is just a bug.

10: if you die on a levequest you auto fail it and dont get any rewards.

...O_o I died on a levequest and I didn't fail. I just went back, killed the thing, and completed it.

11: If you pan the camera out and come across a wall, the camera will not auto pan back out to where you had it set. You will need to pan it back out yourself.

Sounds just like a camera bug that'll get fixed next phase.

    Orange.

    I agree mr(s). orange

I never said I was in beta - but they've already posted the WASD controls and it's really not that different.  I suspect you are exaggerating the issue, but I'll decide for myself when I play.

This is just a list of what I have personally tested and wrote indepth feedback on. but I am not the only one with this feedback since it is repeated on the forums daily. Theres many more things i have yet to test. But i can say that this has been the most unfun game i have ever tested. In most games you like or dislike some systems and test them then move on. Every system so far i have tested has been boring or just down right annoying. I didnt put any opinion in the 1st post just because i didnt want to be criticized as stating an opinion. Everything I posted is corrct and factual and up to date as of today in beta.

ya WASD moves your toon around... to do anything else with a keyboard n mouse you need 2 extra arms, 4 extra fingers and be excellent at minesweeper.

EVERYTHING else wrong with this game aside, I need to ask. Why are player stalls so popular in asian MMOs? It is the worst possible trade system I have ever seen, with numerous negative reprocussions to the game  for any novel feature it might bring, like being able to set up shop in unique locations etc. It turns cities into an urban sprawl of spam, usually ends up with major NPCs covered in shops, causes lag, is a pain to actually find something you need in, and a whole host of other terrible things.

I laugh when people end up beta testing something.. and expect a full game, its a BETA people, things aren't gonna work, things are gonna need to be improved, things will be fixed by release.. I've heard and seen big improvements (Friend was a alpha). Things have changed big time and theres plenty of room for improvement, just give it time.. still a full month till release. It'll only get better from here.

I swear.. some people shouldn't be allowed to beta, they don't beta they complain and troll when they don't get a full game.

A month isn't much of a time frame when the UI needs almost a total overhaul.

C'mon people.. do you really think you should have to click 4 different spots on screen to unequip a piece of gear?

You have to click the bottom right hand button (menu pops)... then click the inventory (menu pops).. then click the piece of gear (menu pops) then remove it.

Just giving an example. Everything works that way... selling items, combat, starting a quest.. Just an exessive ammounts of un needed clicking.

Edit - as an update on the keyboard mouse thing that drove me insane im now using a xbox360 controller since i had one around and it defently makes navigating easier but still too many pop up menus that just are not needed

ppl dont understand why all mmo failed since WoW, what u get in beta is what u get in retail till the game tanked and died, by the time they fixed the game ppl already left.

It's the whole "TimeSink" thing.  They want people spending time running around checking out everybodys stores.  And it really can burn up a lot of time too.

To me it really cheapens the game experience.

if you are in the beta you should know they did this for a reason to make people test out the crafting. i.e removing  almost all items from venders. they cant get good feedback on stuff if people arnt forced to try it out.

I for one love the market and ive never had a problem with people setting up ontop of mine.

I use a 360 controller with zero problems.  i gess its alot of windows if 2 is alot. main skill screen then clicking on main hand or offhand is hard i gess for placing skills.

8: The game still stutters even on high end machines. A lot of high end configurations are performing worse than midrange systems comparably.

I give you this one but i take it with a gain of salt what people claim their comp setups are.

9: FFXIV's way of telling mob strength is out of whack depending on the mob. A green dot goat hits for 200's while a green dot mole hits for 25's.

fixt last patch . pro tip the harder the leve the harder the mob hits and they will check for the same. i think most people would have figured this one out.

10: if you die on a levequest you auto fail it and dont get any rewards.

Its a bug and it rarly happens to anybody

If you go to your local best buy you can get controllers for the same price as Newegg (just one of those items). i like saitech cyborg , or just get a xbox360 controller they work fine with computers and are solid controllers.

Well you cant be pro without them. theres only 1 problem i have with the beta and thats people thinking its a demo of the game. they cant grasp the point of beta testing FFXIV. people who are playing 8-12hrs a day are crying on the fourms about nothing to do and when someones likes sweet you can play alot why not get some good feedback going they laugh and then fanboys lol.
