2. Purpose. I did the first storyline quest, was enjoying it, then it just ended and I can't find the follow-on. Can't find out if it's just not part of the beta (if so, cool) or if they just make it difficult to figure out what to do
The main storyline isn't in beta. They are keeping it out so it's not an unfair advantage for beta teters and so it just stays hidden overall.
In that case, I'm perfectly okay with that. I did like the little taste they gave us and am sure what's to come will be epic.
I just want to know what happens next!
We become time travelers. Going back in time and participating in epic fights. Unless they changed it from earlier dev interviews.
I do have to say, though. This is turning out to be one of my favorite storylines from FF so far.
I must admit, I went into the beta today with an optimistic point of view... and I do understand it is beta. But good lord. I totally underestimated how much menu digging I would need to do for the simplest tasks. And then adding skills to my action bar was a fantastic adventure of thniking something added but it didnt but then it finally did but only after I tried adding something else to the same slot... you get the idea.
I still have hope and I pray they fix all the issues currently in existence, but right now it feels like you need to WORK to accomplish the simplest task. I know people hate when this game is brought up but... its just unacceptable to do this much work when in WoW its a fast, lag-free process. Hell, its faster in almost every other MMO in existance. I just use WoW because while I do *NOT* want a WoW-clone, i think having a fast and intuitive UI is perfectly fine to have :P
Ehh...I think that a lot of these complaints come from people that haven't played FFXI ever
My thoughts exactly.
And Im sure all SE want are people who play ffxi to play ffxiv, because that makes perfect sense to compete with your own mmo. Discrediting people's opinions because they are not familiar with SE's other mmo is foolish. SE has stated numerous times that ffsiv is meant to be more casual and attractive to a wider audience. Hence one would venture that they want to gain new players to their games. Hence people who are unfamiliar with their previous offerings opinions would be just as valid as yours.
That being said, as a person who has played both, I believe that ffxiv is a rather clunky game to play due to the over redundant menu actions and that the combat feels rather slow like in ffxi. The technical bugs Im not so concerned about since SE has been good in the past with fixing those quickly.
Cheers

His comments between phase 2 and 3 and the video that serves as proof of change pretty much tell the story. You see nothing in the post is all that new so it really is a b*tch list cause everything he wrote was already there for us to know all over the forum and many other sources. If you look at RocsLock video you can see the change between 2 and 3 and he mentions it how the controls got tighter. With all the BS post lately youd think the message might have gotten out already that some people really don't like this game.
I maybe wrong, but i have listened and relisten and read comments of rocslocks and he said they speed everything up (ie increase stam regen = faster attacking and increase damage.) However, i did not see him say the controls are tighter or more responsive, infact if you watch the character attributes/state video he even mentions server lag and how it takes a while for changes to register.
But i maybe wrong, i just want to be sure, care to link comment / vid with time x:xx. If not oh well. But it really helps, I watch another guy call enuon or something like that hes really informitive also.
Well server lag has nothing to do with control problem. Server lag is server lag but the controls issue was there with lag on the server or not. I am not sure what video he said it in and honestly there are too many to check worse comes to worse just ask him hes active in his channel.

As far as Rocslock go just looking at his video you can see the changes and I would expect SE will continue to make those changes til the end of beta. Rocslock gives good comments and does voice concerns about the game and so far I find his videos to be the most even handed he doesnt say how great the game is but he does not changes introduce classes and gives you a big picture of some ingame life. So far as I see it they still ahve alot to do before release but I see no true deal breakers for fans of FFXI. As for getting new customers only time will tell the market is a lil different from when they started but keep in mind in the long run their core base is in the east not the west .

FFXI is an aging product and it has beeen stated before that they will try to capture the players from FFXI to make up the majority of the population for the new game. That being said I think they would want them to play both. But interviws suggest that this is more like a pop Shot at WoW (they said it ) rather than FFXI though the reason the races are the same are for the FFXI players. They are trying to grab up some more market from the also aging WoW. But they have no reason to hurt FFXI developemnt wise unless they fall under 100k in subs (IMHO). I think their hope was since almost every new title plays like WoW to do something different. And since SE doent mind evolving to ease the burden on players I think they will tweek the product to be as acccessible as possible without alienating long time customers.

FFXI was not like other games of the genre that was evident when I logged on for the first time and I suspect FFXIV is not going to be like others too. Amazing what we can get used to like the combat in Age of Conan I never thought I would ever get used to that combat but soon it became second nature to me. Human beings are remarkably adaptive.
Control UI does not bother me too much but the one aspect of FFXI that did before was the impossibility of doing anything without a group. Mind you I played ages ago when it first launched and left soon after and I hear things changed in the game later. Also the quests to open levels. You could not level further without completing quests which took some people months to complete simply because of the inavailability of groups and the random loot. I myself took 3 weeks to get that parchment thing.
Don't have any idea how this game pans out but I can understand the bewilderment of people who never played a single Final Fantasy game and will not understand the style or lore or charm of the game and why SE is doing things this way.
I am not entirely sure I will play the game but I confess I do love FF and its world and am hard pressed not to.
2: There is no AH. There are market instances where each seller puts up a store. You are charged for the store, charged to put an item up for sale and charged for selling. There is no way to see what everyone has unless you manually check each and every store. A person can set thier store on top of yours currently which can make targeting yours.. harder.
I have to wonder why you didn't mention anything about retainer systems/npc's, rather than implying that players themselves need to sit logged in at a kiosk to sell items?
I wasnt trying to mislead but rather just say it was a store so most people would understand. I see your point tho and I could have reworded it. I will go back and edit now. thanks.

Yeah I meant the other parts of the interview but on that subject its a shame. SE basically thought that a sub through 360 and a sub through them would be too much and I think they were right. I am hoping Microsoft caves if the sales are good as it would help a lot of folks that dont want to upgrade their PCs.

There is an AH, it just isn't open right now, the area is closed off in Limsa. If you played FFXI you would of noticed the Sign/Logo of the AH

You're wasting your time. OP is probably some guy who managed to get hold of a beta key and then started making negative XIV threads on this website. XIV just has a different take on AH from WoW, which is why he missed it.

Yeah...not really surprising to be honest, that is usually what goes around on these forums. I'm really just posting for the people that look at what he says and takes it as fact.
There is no AH currently. I could care less about some fabled miracle build some people are expecting or a sign that looks like another sign from another game. Currently.... CURRENTLY... everything I posted is correct and factual.
I just got done with an hour of testing. In that time, I RO'ed(LDed) 1 time and errored out twice. 3 kicks from the server in an hour and thats pretty normal CURRENTLY. Theres many many posts and feedback on instability ALONE. It flat blows my mind some people are soo hopeful and so blind that they are willing to overlook every negative aspect of the game currently and put those hopes on another super duper secret build SE has.
I am by far a better tester than many of you because I am not overlooking its defects. I am trying my best to find them.

It's Beta, who in their right mind would be mad about not being able to make profit from the AH right now... not like anything you may buy or sell from it will be there come launch anyways.
As for being dropped out of the game it maybe happens once every few hours. I can live with that.

lol figures you 'could care less' when proven wrong..
Did you notice that there are no other cities aswell?

. 40-75 for a year subscription(GOLD LIVE)+ your MMO sub isn't that bad. The way I see it, it wasn't the fee's, but the closed nature of the LIVE servers and how they wouldn't be playing with the PS3 and PC people.
I can't say how things currently are in the game since I'm not a beta tester atm. However, I do agree with bhronn on one fact: if things are broken (I said IF), then expecting a "miracle patch" is foolish; and I'd be a little wary of anything that SE didn't test in the beta because it's the things that don't get a thorough testing that tend to break the quickest.
I think we can all agree that UI errors, frequent disconnects and game errors, and features missing are things we wouldn't put up with in the full game release. Obviously the AH can be added in but without testing it could have bugs that would slip by with nothing but internal testing. The things that really worry me are server stability and the game's stability. As we do get closer to release, if those things aren't easily fixable (not saying they are or aren't, again just saying IF) then SE will have a pretty big problem on their hands.
All that said, I really hope things get cleaned up and the game has a smooth release!

Looks like facts gets to you and come off as attacks alright let me ask you a question
Today is there an AH system in beta or has there ever been one ?
/sigh
Is the city of Gridania in Beta or has there ever been one? Is the city of Ul'dah in Beta or has there ever been one? etc. etc. I could do this all day for numerous features slated for release at launch. You have no solid argument here. Face it and just admit all of your grievances are founded in OPINION. You would actually make a better case for yourself and not come across as some egotistical FFXIV hater.

Interesting if the game works as above stated by the OP , then I may give this a look. Looks like its not purely whack - a - mole.
If they had a pure market and no AH then i'd probably play for definite thi would generate a marketing community.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
It's Beta, who in their right mind would be mad about not being able to make profit from the AH right now... not like anything you may buy or sell from it will be there come launch anyways.
As for being dropped out of the game it maybe happens once every few hours. I can live with that.

lol figures you 'could care less' when proven wrong..
Did you notice that there are no other cities aswell?
Beta much?
Thought so...
Actually when your proven wrong all you can do is come back with snide remarks and personal attacks.
. 40-75 for a year subscription(GOLD LIVE)+ your MMO sub isn't that bad. The way I see it, it wasn't the fee's, but the closed nature of the LIVE servers and how they wouldn't be playing with the PS3 and PC people.
Looks like facts gets to you and come off as attacks
All that said, I really hope things get cleaned up and the game has a smooth release!
alright let me ask you a question
Today is there an AH system in beta or has there ever been one ?
Yes, it is there, you just can't use it... did you not see the screenshots of it?
So is it 'in' beta...yes
have you tested it?
All you have is a sign over a door and the sign looks like the Ah sign in ffxi.
