Thats beceause they are moving fast from location to location. System cannot preload files that fast and thus the loading screens. You have that in anygame. Even in Wow.

I know, and no, you don't have that in every game.

In any game that lets you move between 2 different regions that are very far apart, that have substantially different content (models for terrain, textures, etc), you will require some loading mechanism. It's actually something we have been trying to make easier in the game industry. The only way to avoid it with an online game right now is by having the rendering done server side. However, that is impractical and very difficult to pull off. And before someone mentions OnLive: all of their "servers" are basically render farms. Games such as Eve and the like tend to not suffer from this as much, but that is because the content even between two large sections of the game utilizes the same models and textures. This means far less loading that must be done in the background, as well as releasing of resources.
Didnt really get into gw1, but this is a definate 1st day buy.
Get a fast PC with a SSD raid array and your loading times should be quick, that's probably what they had in the demo machine anyway, some kind of super PC.
doesn't look much like a "persistent" world to me.
Do you even know what ''persistant'' means ?
means a world like wow for exemple ..where i can be anywere in the world and everyone else can join me in the same place i am, without asking me in witch instance i am...
Lets say i am in the barrens at camp taurajo, anyone can go to that place beacuse there is only one camp taurajo per server, and find me there...
Even when we go from continent to another it has a loading screen but all continents are persistent..there is only one of them per server...
The Only places im not in the persistent world is in the dungeons...
But GW2 looks like it has major amount of instanced places..and maybe small persistent parts of the world...lets see...thats what it looks like

This ^^. In case ppl haven't noticed, the player is doing map travel, that's why there is the loading -.- . You see, he has done "zoom out to map --> choose a place ---> Teleport? Yes" and then loading screen. Every game with map travel or teleport has it, and its a better way to go meet your friends instead of going on foot from one point of the city to the other, Because the city really is HUGE and probably there are Events appearing in the city too that need to be loaded, or there will be more bugs and more lag. If you walk around slowly, those events can be loaded slowly, but if you use travel there must be some kind of load don't you think? We don't know how it will really work outside the cities yet, we will have to wait and see.

How can you tell that?
I very well know what persistant means...
The world will not be instanced like GW1 is. It will be much more similar to WoW. They have said that zones will only turn into instances if the population exceeds a certain limit. They have also stated that this limit will probably never be reached. While this is mainly guess work at this point in time I doubt you will be in a situation where someone needs to ask "What instance should I join you in?" So far they have stated the only "instances" that people should see are for their personal story lines and for dungeons/raids. The world will probably be zoned, but I doubt you will see the level of instancing you seem to believe will be there (ie AoC and GW1).
On a side note, I really don't care if it is instanced or not. There will still be plenty of people around each zone if instances are formed since this will mean the cap has been reached. Also, it takes like two seconds to ask someone what instance they are in and switch to it.
This game does look heavily instanced, just from these videos....
Not that impressed. Guess we will have to see what else they have in stored. At one point I /yawn went down to the Aion Balaurer live feed, but it took me right back to gw2 live feed instead

Thanks OP, this is giving a real flavor for the game. So far so very good. Damn the artwork in those load screens is stunning.

Yeah it's off-air atm, might come back later on
Edit: they're working on the sound

Only filming people though; and they're playing some harsh noise in the background
Edit: They're playing some Jeremy Soule now
They fixed the sound.

Nice! Thanks for that, game looks beautiful.
However, more...loading....screens...... anyone. If the game just had more loading screens it would be perfect....
Yeah..i noticed the loading screens all over..seems worse then aoc...

Lol, the livestream now shows Aion, I was already wondering what that kind of pets were doing in GW2.
I don't see a lot of MMO's having that many fast travel options, and certainly not without loading screen.
