All of us are sinners. But what sin rules the roost over you? What dark force is at play when you play? If the seven deadly sins mimicked common behaviors we see in MMOs what would they look like? What would best describe them and you?
PRIDE:
We all know what it entails. The desire to be more important than others. Do strive to be the best? At crafting. At PvP. At achievements? Do you tell someone where you got that cool mount or cool armor set when they ask? Or do you clam up? Do you tell people you ding after every level up? Do you have to be part of one of the best guilds so you can obtain the best gear ahead of your friends? Are you ruled by the sin of pride? King of all sins. Or do you harbor another quality?
GREED:
We are all a little greedy inside. But some always take it to the extreme. How about you? Do you always try to maximize profits when selling things to others? Do you base your prices on your efforts to obtain something or on current market trends? Do you charge for services that cost you very little of your time? Like warps, portals, food or buffs? Do you charge players to escort them somewhere you know you're going to anyway? Then GREED is your bedfellow. If faced with a choice of profit over goodwill....what would you choose?
LUST:
With mostly guys playing these games, it's hard not to initially gawk a little when you find out that healer in your guild really is a chick. But how do you feel about all female avatars? Do yo assume that each one is a female? Do you make female characters because you like secretly making them your private dancer every once in a while? Do you constantly chatter on vent or TS if a female is present when you normally don't? Ladies, do you become overly helpless just to take advantage of some guy's weakness to the opposite sex? Do you smile at the thought of having several guys gawking over your every word? Then you show a strong penance for this sin.
ENVY:
Ahhh ENVY. The sin most present in gamers. But how exactly do MMO gamers fair? Well ask yourself. Do you belittle the acomplishments of others? Do you second guess your class if you see another is better at what your class does? Do you only play a healer or tank knowing that those classes will get more groups? Do you often comment about players that race to level first? I'm guilty of a little envy when I play new MMOs, but they never really manifest to actual verbal expressions.
GLUTTONY:
Showing this sin in-game is not as difficult as it seems. Do you have a bloated friends list? Do you continue to add people knowing full well you'll never really keep in touch with all of them? Do you keep your inventory clutter free or do you horde everything that drops in the hopes that one day you'll need it? Do you let your friends know your favorite farming spot (even though there is plenty of spawns for everyone) before or after everything has turned gray? Have you've been guilty of one or more of these things? If so then welcome to being greedy to the point of wastefulness.
WRATH:
Not only present in PvP games, but also capable of rearing it's ugly head in PvE games as well. But mostly it has to do with unbridled emotions that go beyond common tomfoolery. Corpse camping, griefing, training mobs, spamming and a few other devious ways players think of to harrass their fellow gamers in the attempt to make them logout or quit the game all together. If you've ever been accused of and/or have been banned for any of these foul actions then you are controlled by your anger more often than not. I just hate to actually see or hear what's going on, on your side of the monitor when you're committing these acts.
SLOTH:
Finally SLOTH. The one sin that most casual gamers are considered to be guilty of before they even play a game. But it's deeper than a playing style dictated more by lack of time rather than lack of will. Some players just cannot or will not pull their own weight. AFKing for more than 15 minutes. Asking for powerleveling sessions. Asking for anything that takes less than 30 minutes to obtain yourself. Piggybacking off online strategies before trying. Asking for help before reading a quest. Buying any services through third parties not sanctioned by the game developers. These are examples of SLOTH within the game, but all of us are guilty of this at one point or another.

I don't get how this relates to class preferences. I guess I fall under lust, because I *always* prefer something with tits over something that lacks them, but priests are not my #1 pick, though I do go for it depending on how they play.

Well, I am both Greed and Envy. I covet what the stronger players have, but I horde my things and don't help out anyone else. I really enjoy just collecting better and better items in as high a supply as possible. I really prefer to go it alone on most games, but I have noticed that being in a guild has really helped me get my hands on some great loot.

Wrath is rogue...
Greed is berserker...
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
I just threw the classes in there for sh*ts and giggles. I don't expect to see a reflection of players that have sins that align with their own class choice. BTW I could list my irrational reason for matching all the classes with certain sins but it's gettin late so I'll explain the two mentioned. I thought wrath was a more fitting sin for rogues because those players tend to have more devious ways to carry out that sin. And beserkers I thought are good for greed because players tend to want both dps and health (and in some MMOs they get better armor) than rogues.

Wrath, but in a more "I'm going to skull fuck your grandma after I split you in two with muh axe!" sort of way; which I'm going to assume isn't so rogue like.
I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.
Had to pick envy, I always wish I had that piece of armor or that weapon so I looked just as cool.
The Stranger: It's what people know about themselves inside that makes 'em afraid.
Envy - Warrior
In Aika, I will definitely go OC just to get that cool looking Epic Honor Warrior Armor and Zweihander that somebody else has. ^_^v

These.
"We got rid of the trinity." How'd you do that? "Now everyone can heal." Sounds like you just took the mechanic and spread it thin. "Well no, there's one class that can do it better than others." I see, so they're healers. "No. They're.." -mind asplode-
I chose greed. When Elite came out i loved the trading that was there... Always have so it was natural that i would play the trader in the best MMO player run market out there.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
Voted for a little of all, but I think I'd have to say Pride. Except... I do not say ding after every level, I'm not a douche.
^_^ Tee hee!
I don't know why, but I have an insane drive to pick up and keep everything I can get in an MMO (especially when an elaborate crafting system in involved) and just hoard the heck out of everything. And I do mean everything.
But I don't do overpricing. That's a big no-no for me.
Edit: BBML FTW.
my sin would be pride......but i aint no mage lol
I'm not above any of those sins when I'm playing EVE. (Class equivalences are not relevant ofc. since I get get in a Pilgrim and be an "Assassin", then dock up and and switch to my beam Zealot and be an "Archer" or my Falcon and be a "Mage" in the course of a single play session.)
Give me liberty or give me lasers
Seems there are those out there that are without sin! Lol, kind of hard to wrap my head around. But note that all those acts I listed as descriptions for that sin will not be reflected in the players. Maybe it would be one or two of them. Or maybe something entirely different that you can think of. Either way I personally think my governing sin is ENVY. I too am always looking at cool weapons/armor and wanting to collect it.

LMAO....At least you can call a spade a spade. Just look out for the really overweight guys, and their man-bewbs.
I like to take the role of the good guy in RPGs...so what would that be? Pride? Wanting to be seen as noble/hero.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Wrath is the only one that I can relate to. The rest don't even blip on my radar. But wrath, man when I'm pvping or I die to a mob in pve, I get pissed and want immediate revenge. Of course, with pve, its not a big deal, its no different than punching a wall. PVP however, unrighteous anger is the same as murder, to Him.
Lol at least you're content with it. I'd hate to see just how mess your room/place is....
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
None of them, since I am acting as a perfect God ingame.
You do know I am God?
Make us care MORE about our faction & world pvp!
I chose none of the above.
Pride, I'm happy when I level or anything, but I never consider myself "pro" or stuff like that. I'm really not into that "look at my rares, and I'm not telling you how to get them!".
I've rarely had that "greedy" moment, I tend to give A LOT of things for free (as to why...I don't know....I always have a terrible bank balance in MMOs I play). If I ever am too greedy, it's because I gave too much that I finally want to keep a little for myself. Some players you just give them a hand and they take your whole arm so got to be carefull with those :P
Not really lustfull in MMOs. I actually hate it when players gets all exited because a female gamer just talk in ventrilo. It always shocked me as to how players always seem "suprised" and start to "hit" on her (aside from the jokes of course).
Envy, I always choose the class players don't play because it's too weak. I think a lot of players just don't want to bother getting better and prefer to choose the "EASY" button. But do I belittle others in-game because they chose that OP class? Not really, unless they start saying things like "lol I'm so pro, shut up you nub" to any player, then I might belittle him but that's not envy.
Gluttony, my friendlist is usually very small. Quality over Quantity I say. Usually helpful with friends in-game.
Wrath, despite that fact that I really enjoy PvP, I see no point in trash talking or pissing off players until they log off (such as camping, etc). I'm usually the type of players to say "Good fight" or "I see you're having trouble, want some tips?" etc. Though if a player starts QQ or trash talking to the point of annoyance, then I might camp his ass....but only because he asked for it. Otherwise, I never camp, trash talk, grief, etc. I just don't get any fun out of it.
Not a Sloth either, I've never used gold/powerleveling services, I try to read quest text if the developers put some efforts in to it (So many games with ridiculous and pointless quests text while some other games actually do try and make a storyline, so I like to read those). I always read the guide book (like the book that comes with a boxed version of a game) before I jump in, etc. I'm usually the one helping rather than being helped.
I'm nowhere near perfect in-game, but none of those sins really represent how I interact with the game and it's community when I play.
It's easy to see that PRIDE is your governing sin. Does this mean it's a bad thing? Nope. A little pride goes a long way. Thinking about how you appear to others whether they be friends, family or strangers is a form of PRIDE. Even when replying to this very post.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Touché!
I guess it is sloth, I have been free from work the last 3 weeks and been to lazy to play even when it rains outside, I had a Simpson marathon instead.
And it happens that I am too lazy to run long dungeons also and just go for the smaller. But I am rarely AFK for more than the minute a bio takes.
I don't really recognize me in any of the others except maybe a little envy at times. And you got me, I often play ranger.
Perhaps I am taking this out of the game world (and possibly context) but I view 'Sloth' as more of a product of interacting with the game itself rather than specific qualities within the game.
In other words, I tend to view Sloth as the evil that creeps in when you devote time to the game that should likely be spent doing your job, spending time with your family and friends (or even pets for that matter) and enriching your life in other non-gaming ways.
I enjoy gaming but I have also seen many people take the hobby to extremes and negatively impact other crucial areas of their lives. I suppose in some sense this could be considered Gluttony as well.
You got me there! That's why I threw in the little statement at the end of sloth. And yes you're right in your thinking that all who over-indulge in gaming are prime examples of sloth. But everything taking into moderation (including your gaming sessions) can still lead to sloth like behavior in-game. I was just trying to pertain the sins to in-game behaviors, not condemn our choice of hobby. But if you do then any hobby can be considered a conduit for sloth.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Wouldn't call this pride, I think you're trying to look too hard into it or reading between lines that don't exist.
I simply play a game the way I enjoy it. Which is pretty much what I wrote, I like to give stuff, help players, etc. I don't show off to other players saying things like "I helped "x" players today, better than you did".
Also, the use of Pride when referring to the seven deadly sins means boasting about your accomplishments left and right, not acknowledging other's accomplishment, love of self, desire to be more important than others, etc.
This isn't the case here, I was just justifiying why the "Gamer version of the seven deadly sin" does not represent my behavior in-game. As for my reason to respond to this thread has little to do with pride, but rather the fact that I thought it was an interesting subject and wanted to read/share my opinions, which is the whole point of a forum I believe....
